Abstract

In at least one embodiment, a body is a flexible material. In at least one embodiment, the assembly includes multiple caps. In at least one embodiment, a cap includes a tab. In at least one embodiment, a cap includes a protrusion that is round. In at least one embodiment, a hinge attaches the cap to the body.     CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application is a non-provisional application of, and claims priority to, U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 61/718,586 filed Oct. 25, 2012, which is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety.
  • TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
  • The present disclosure generally relates to medical tablet containers and, more particularly, to wearable medicine storage devices.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE
  • Certain medications must be carried with a patient in order to prevent a serious medical issue. Traditionally, patients have been forced to carry large bottles, loose pills, or blister packs with them in order to possess the medication when needed. It can be difficult for a patient to keep track of their medication, especially if it is infrequently used. Further, when doing rigorous activities, such as athletics, or sports it presents a difficult challenge for the patient to keep medication accessible during these activities, yet this time may be when it is needed most.
  • Previously, there have been smaller containers that may be attached to keys or other items in order to carry a small dose or tablet of medication with a patient for emergency use. Such containers can be impractical because of the difficulty of carrying keys during a workout or other activities. Additionally, when a patient may need their medication during an emergency, the patient may be unable to communicate the presence of medication on their keys or other area.
  • Therefore, there is a need for improved wearable medication storage devices that can be kept within easy reach of a patient and enable proper dosing in an emergency.
  • SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE
  • The present disclosure includes disclosure of embodiments of a wristband. In at least one embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a body including one or more chambers formed therein and a cap retainer disposed adjacent to the chamber opening; and a cap including a cap seat and a protrusion extending from the cap opposite the cap seat, wherein the cap seat interfaces with the cap retainer, and the cap seals the chamber from the environment. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a body that is a flexible material. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a body that varies in thickness along its length. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a body has one or more apertures therethrough along its length. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a body with an interior surface that is substantially smooth.
  • In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure a wristband includes multiple caps. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a cap with a round protrusion. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a cap with an oval protrusion. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a cap with a plurality of protrusions. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a cap that substantially conforms to the chamber in the wristband.   • The present disclosure includes disclosure of embodiments of a wristband. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a body including one or more chambers formed therein and a recessed groove at or near the chamber opening; and a cap including a covering base, a protrusion extending from the cap opposite the covering base, and a tab extending from the cap, wherein the cap seals the chamber from the environment. In at least embodiment, the wristband comprises a body that is a flexible material. In at least embodiment, the wristband comprises cap attached to the body with a hinge. In at least embodiment, the wristband comprises a sealing ridge extending from a protrusion, which extends from a cap and the sealing ridge substantially conforms to the recessed groove at or near the chamber opening of the body. In at least embodiment, the wristband comprises a protrusion extending from a cap which substantially encloses a form of medication.
  • The present disclosure includes disclosure of embodiments of a wristband. In at least embodiment, a wristband according to the present disclosure comprises a body including one or more chambers formed therein, a groove within the chamber, and a lip disposed adjacent to the chamber opening; and a cap including a cap seat, a flange extending from the cap seat, a container protrusion defining a cavity and extending from the cap opposite the cap seat, and a ridge extending from the container protrusion, wherein the flange interfaces with the lip, the ridge interfaces with the groove within the chamber, and the cap seals the chamber from the environment. In at least embodiment, a wristband comprises a cavity within the cap that substantially conforms to a medication. In at least embodiment, a wristband comprises a body and a cap that are a flexible material.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DISCLOSED EMBODIMENTS
  • The present application discloses various embodiments of a chambered wristband and methods for using and constructing the same. According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a chambered wristband is disclosed having a cavity for storage of medical pills, tablets, capsules, and other medication.
  • The chambered wristband may be used as a wearable bracelet to store pills (such as aspirin), tablets, capsules, and other forms of medication. Aspects of the disclosed wristband may facilitate use in a variety of situations by a variety of persons. In an emergency situation, the chambered wristband may enable a user immediate access to aspirin, glucose tablets, or other medication. The size and profile of the chambered wristband enable a user to wear the chambered wristband in active motion or non-active motion activities. The chambered wristband may appeal to runners, travelers, outdoorsmen, athletes, military, or workplace wear. For example, if a runner were to have a heart attack, the chambered wristband could provide immediate access to aspirin without the need to carry around a pill bottle, bulky container, or loose blister pack. Similarly, the chambered wristband could provide immediate access to a glucose tablet to a hypoglycemic individual with minimal disruption or burden to the user in their activities.
  • For the purposes of promoting an understanding of the principles of the disclosure, reference will now be made to the embodiments illustrated in the drawings and specific language will be used to describe the same. It will nevertheless be understood that no limitation of the scope of the disclosure is thereby intended, and alterations and modifications in the illustrated systems, and further applications of the principles of the disclosure as illustrated therein are herein contemplated as would normally occur to one skilled in the art to which the disclosure relates.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 1, a chambered wristband 100 may include a body 101 with a chamber 105 disposed within. The body 101 may include a cap retainer 104 including a retention lip 114 adapted to secure a cap 106. The cap 106 may be inserted into and seal the chamber 105. The cap 106 may include a cap seat 107 which mates with the cap retainer 104 and may be secured by the retention lip 114. The cap 106 may include a storage cavity retaining structure 109 that may define a storage cavity 108. The storage cavity retaining structure 109 may include a storage cavity seal 110 that may seal the chamber 105. The cap 106 may be inserted from a body interior surface 111 or the cap 106 may be inserted from the outer, side, or exterior surface of the chambered wristband 100. When the cap 106 is inserted into the chambered wristband 105, the storage cavity 108 may remain within the chambered wristband 100 and the chamber 105. FIG. 1 illustrates one possible location of the chamber 105, within the chambered wristband 100 wherein pills, tablets, blister packs, and other medication may be stored.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 2, the chambered wristband 100 may include the body 101 in the shape of a band to encircle the wrist of the user and secure the chambered wristband 100 to the user. The body 101 may be made to be comfortable to the user while securing chambered wristband 100 to the user. In at least one embodiment, the body 101 may be made of flexible material and may enable stretching, expansion, or contraction of the body 101 to facilitate installation and removal of the chambered wristband 100. In at least one embodiment, the body 101 may be made of a rigid material. In such an embodiment, the body 101 may include a securing element or gap to facilitate installation or removal of the chambered wristband 100.
  • Marking faces 102 may be located on the exterior surface of the body 101 opposite the chamber 105. The marking faces 102 may facilitate impression, printing, or other means of displaying a marking of a name, logo, mark, or words. In at least one embodiment, the marking faces 102 may increase the availably capacity of the chamber 105 by providing a section of increased depth. The marking faces 102 may be round in geometry. In at least one embodiment, marking faces 102 may include other geometries. The marking faces 102 may enable the removal of the cap 106 by the user pressing on the marking faces 102 to remove the cap 106. In at least one embodiment, marking face 102 may facilitate attachment of an accessory.
  • The body 101 may facilitate impression, printing, or other display marking of a name, logo, mark, or words. The body 101 may include the body interior surface 111 which may be smooth for relative comfort for the user. In at least one embodiment, the body interior surface 111 may include a raised area 115 or the body interior surface 111 may include a depressed structure to add some functionality. In at least one embodiment, the body interior surface 111 may include sweat channels (not shown) or grip structures (not shown) to secure the chambered wristband 100 during relatively high levels of activity or to facilitate added flexibility of body 101. In at least one embodiment, the body 101 may contain through-holes (not shown) to reduce the weight, increase the breathability of the user's skin, or provide attachment points for accessories.
  • The body 101 may have squared edges in cross section. In at least one embodiment, the body 101 may have rounded edges. The body 101 may be a consistent thickness throughout. In at least one alternative embodiment, body 101 may have a thickness that varies along its length.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 3, the cap 106 may be configured to be inserted into the chamber 105. The storage cavity 108 may mate to the chamber 105 with the cap 106 inserted. In at least one embodiment, the storage cavity 108 may be configured to substantially surround a pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication during storage within chambered wristband 100. In at least one embodiment, storage cavity 108 may include a surface treatment to facilitate easy removal of the contents or provide other functionality.
  • The storage cavity 108 may be cylindrical in geometry. In at least one embodiment, the storage cavity 108 may have other geometries, including but not limited to triangular, square, rectangular or oblong shapes. The storage cavity retaining structure 109 may define the storage cavity 108 and may protrude from the cap 106. The storage cavity retaining structure 109 may include a storage chamber seal 110. The storage chamber seal 110 may be configured to engage the interior of the chamber 105 and may enhance retention when installed or may prevent contamination by moisture or particulates. In at least one embodiment, storage chamber seal 110 may include a ridge configured to interface with the interior of chamber 105. In at least one embodiment, storage chamber seal 110 may interface with storage cavity sealing structure 113 to seal or retain the cap 106. In at least one embodiment, storage chamber seal 110 as seen in cutaway may include other shapes, including but not limited to round, square, triangular, or oval. In at least one embodiment, storage chamber seal 110 may include other types of seal interfaces including different materials or separate seals.
  • The storage cavity 108 may substantially conform to the pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication in order to retain it within the cap 106. Specifically, the storage cavity retaining structure 109 may include an interference fit to conform to the pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication in order to retain it within the cap 106. In at least one embodiment, storage cavity retaining structure 109 may define a storage cavity 108 smaller than the pill, tablet, blister packet or other form of medication. In at least one embodiment, the storage cavity retaining structure 109 and the storage cavity 108 shape may be altered by the insertion of the pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication. For example, the storage cavity retaining structure 109 may be round in shape but when a triangular pill is pressed into the storage cavity retaining structure 109 it may conform to the triangular shape. In at least one embodiment, the alteration of the storage cavity 108 and storage cavity retaining structure 109 shape by insertion of the pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication may serve to enhance the interface between the storage chamber seal 110 storage cavity sealing structure 113. For example, the storage cavity retaining structure 109 may be slightly smaller than a round pill to be inserted. When the round pill is inserted, the storage cavity 108 may expand to the size of the round pill, resulting in the storage cavity sealing structure 113 expanding to provide a better seal. In at least one embodiment, the alteration of the storage cavity 108 and storage cavity retaining structure 109 shape by insertion of the pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication may alter the shape of the storage chamber seal 110. For example, the storage cavity 108 and storage cavity retaining structure 109 may be round and chamber 105 may be triangular in shape when empty. A triangular pill may be inserted into the storage cavity 108 causing the storage cavity retaining structure 109 and storage chamber seal 110 to conform to the pill and become triangular in shape, resulting in a seal between the storage chamber seal 110 and chamber 105. In at least one embodiment, the alteration of the storage cavity 108 and storage cavity retaining structure 109 shape by insertion of the pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication may alter the shape of the cap seal 107 or may improve the interface between cap seal 107 and the cap retainer 104.
  • In at least one embodiment, the storage cavity retaining structure 109 may have a removable seal that may seal the storage cavity 108 by covering the opening of storage cavity 108. In such an embodiment, the removable seal covering the storage cavity 108 may be a film, slits, or other means of sealing or separating the storage cavity. In at least one embodiment, the storage cavity 108 may substantially enclose the pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication.
  • In at least one embodiment, the cap 106 may be disposable or replaceable. In at least one embodiment, the cap 106 may be replaced with the pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication already enclosed within. In at least one embodiment, the cap 106 may be made from silicone rubber or other flexible or non-flexible materials.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 4, the chamber 105 may include a storage cavity sealing structure 113, which may conform to the storage cavity retaining structure 109. The storage cavity sealing structure 113 may be a protrusion or a recess. In at least one embodiment, the storage cavity sealing structure 113 may have varying profiles as viewed in cutaway, including rounded, square, triangular, oblong, or other profiles. In at least one embodiment, the storage cavity sealing structure 113 may seal the chamber 105 and storage cavity 108. In at least one embodiment, the storage cavity sealing structure 113 may include a mechanical retention mechanism to retain the cap 106.
  • The chamber 105 within the body 101 may include the cap retainer 104. The cap retainer 104 may capture and secure the cap 106 by connection with the cap seat 107 as seen in FIG. 1. In at least one embodiment, the cap seat 107 may only be in contact with the body 101 and not the cap seat 107. In at least one embodiment, the cap 106 may be retained in the chamber 105 without the cap seat 107. The cap seat 107 may have a retention lip 114, seen in FIG. 1, which may fold over the cap seat 107 and retain the cap 106. In at least one embodiment, the cap seat 107 may meet flush to the cap retainer 104 and not include the retention lip 114.
  • The cap 106 may be retained by the cap retainer 104 providing an interface with a cap seat 107. In at least one embodiment, a cap retainer 104 may be configured to create a flush surface when the cap 106 is installed to improve user comfort by having a smooth inner surface, and the smooth inner surface may reduce likelihood of accidental removal of the cap 106. In at least one embodiment, cap retainer 104 may include a moisture and particulate resistant seal to substantially prevent moisture and particulate from entering the chamber 105. In at least one embodiment, cap retainer 104 may be made from silicone rubber or other flexible or non-flexible materials. In at least one embodiment, cap retainer 104 may include a channel (not shown) substantially underneath the cap retainer 104 to improve retention and sealing of the installed cap.
  • The chamber 105 may be cylindrical in shape. In at least one embodiment, the chamber 105 may be elliptical or include another geometry with different shapes, including but not limited to round, triangular, square, oval or non-symmetrical shapes. In at least one embodiment, the inside surface of the chamber 105 may include a non-stick or other functional surface treatment. In at least one embodiment, the chamber 105 may be divided into multiple regions or shapes. In at least one embodiment, there may be more than one chamber 105. In at least one embodiment, there may be a dividing wall 112 that separates two or more chambers 105 that may be covered by one or more caps 106. In at least one embodiment, the body 101 may include more than one chamber 105.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 5, a cambered wristband including a cap 206 may be inserted into a body 201 including a chamber 205 disposed therein to contain a pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication. The chamber 205 includes a cap retainer 204 and a cap seat 204 at the chamber 205 opening. The cap 206 may have a cap seat 207 that may provide a seal and retention mechanism for the cap 206. When the cap 206 is inserted into the chamber 205 the cap retainer 204 may interface with the cap seat 207 to seal and retain the cap 206 in the chamber 205. In at least one embodiment, the chamber 205 may be of varying sizes and shapes. In at least one embodiment, the body includes multiple chambers 205.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 6, the body 201 of the chambered wristband 200 may include only the one marking face 202. The body 201 may be substantially circular in shape. In at least one embodiment, the body 201 may be made of silicon rubber or other materials and may be flexible or non-flexible.
  • A marking face 202 may protrude from the body 201 opposite the chamber 205 and may have a rectangular shape. The marking face 202 may enable removal of the cap 206 or medication from the chambered wristband 200 by providing a user a raised surface to press the cap 206 out of the body 201. In at least one embodiment, marking face 202 may have different shapes and may not conform to the shape of the body 201. In at least one embodiment, marking face 202 is longer or shorter and may extend different lengths along the body 201. In at least one embodiment, marking face 202 has a beveled edge. In at least one embodiment, marking face 202 has a rounded edge or other edge treatment. In at least one embodiment, marking face 202 enables the attachment of an accessory.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 7, the chamber 205 of the wristband 200 that may be oblong in shape. In at least one embodiment, the chamber 205 may be of varying sizes and shapes and may extend beyond the body 201. The wristband 200 may include a cap retainer 204 that may be shaped to conform to the cap seat 207. In at least one embodiment, the cap retainer 204 may be flexible and conform over the cap 206 and may seal the chamber 205. The wristband 200 may include different chamber shapes 205, which may facilitate storage of a blister pack or larger pills, tablets or other medication.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 8, the cap seat 207 may protrude from the cap 206. The cap 206 may include a storage cavity retaining structure 209, which may define a storage cavity 208. The outside of the storage cavity retaining structure 209 may include a storage chamber seal 210, which may be shaped to conform to the chamber 205. In at least one embodiment, the storage chamber seal 210 may seal the storage chamber 208 from moisture, external exposure, or retention of the cap. In at least one embodiment, cap 206 may include other types of seal interfaces or additional seals. In at least one embodiment, the cap seat 207 may contact the body 201, chamber 205, and/or cap retainer 204.
  • The storage cavity retaining structure 209 may define a cavity 208 for the storage of a tablet, medication, or dosage. In at least one embodiment, the storage chamber retaining seal 210 may include a conical ridge configured to interface with the interior of chamber 205. In at least one embodiment, storage chamber retaining seal 210 may include other shapes in cutaway view, including but not limited to round, square, oval, or triangular. In at least one embodiment, storage cavity 208 may include other types of seal interfaces. The cap 206 may be made from silicone rubber or other flexible or non-flexible materials.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 9, the wristband 100 may include the cap 302, which may be a peel away seal that covers the chamber 105. The pill, tablet, tablet, blister pack, or other form of medication may be placed with the chamber 105 and the cap 302 may be attached to the body 101 to cover the chamber 105 by glue or other means. In at least one embodiment, the cap 302 may only be secured by a friction fit. In at least one embodiment, the cap 302 may be partially or completely manufactured or molded as part of the body 101. In at least one embodiment, the cap 302 may serve to partially or fully encase the pill, tablet, tablet, blister pack or other form of medication within the chambered wristband 100.
  • The cap 302 may include a tab 303 attached to the cap 302, such that the tab may assist in removal of the cap 302 from the body 101. In such an embodiment, the tab 303 may be attached to the body 101. In at least one embodiment, pulling on the tab 303 may remove the cap 302 by deforming the cap 302 or body 101 and give the user a mechanical advantage to remove the cap 302. In at least one embodiment, the tab 303 may fold, slide or move into the body 101 or cap 302. In at least one embodiment, the tab 302 may be made of a flexible material, the same material as the body, a different material, or a rigid material.
  • The storage cavity 108 within the cap 106 may be manufactured around a pill, tablet, tablet, blister pack, or other form of medication. In at least one embodiment, the chamber 105 may be formed around the pill, tablet, tablet, blister pack, or other form of medication during manufacturing and covered by the cap 302. In at least one embodiment, the cap 302 may be added later sealing the medication, tablet or does within the chamber 105 until needed. In at least one embodiment, the cap 302 may be molded around the pill, tablet, tablet, blister pack, or other form of medication separately or at the same time as the body. For example, a tablet is placed into a mold for the chambered wristband and cap as one piece, the mold is filled with silicone covering the tablet, and forming the chambered wristband and cap, when the mold is released the chambered wristband has been formed with a tablet inside the cap and is ready for use. In at least one embodiment, the cap 302 may not completely seal the chamber 105 or storage chamber 108.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 10, the cap 106 may include a hinge 401 attaching the cap 106 to the body 101. In at least one embodiment, the hinge 401 may attach to the body 101 or to the chamber 105. In at least one embodiment, the hinge 401 may break away when removed. In at least one embodiment, the hinge 401 may be made of a flexible, non-flexible material, a similar material to the body, or a different material. In at least one embodiment, the hinge 401 may be flush to the cap 106 or may be raised. The hinge 401 may include a tab 403 protruding from the cap 106. In at least one embodiment, the tab 403 may be part of the hinge 401, the body 101, or the cap 106.
  • In at least one embodiment according to the present disclosure, as illustrated in FIG. 11, the hinge 401 may enable the cap 106 to be removed from the chamber 105 without separating completely. In at least one embodiment, the hinge 401 may extend over face of the cap 106 and may include a gripping area 404 and the tab 403. In at least one embodiment, the gripping area 404 may be different shapes to accommodate different users.
  • The tab 403, the gripping area 404, or the hinge 401 may facilitate the release of individual or multiple tablets, dosages of medication. In at least one embodiment, the tab 403, the gripping area 404, or the hinge 401 may release the cap 106 or the pill, tablet, tablet, blister pack, or other form of medication stored within the chambered wristband 100. In at least one embodiment, the tab 403, the gripping area 404, or the hinge 401 may be a flexible material, non-flexible material, a similar material to the cap 106 or body 101, or a dissimilar material.
  • In at least one embodiment, the chambered wristband 100, 200 of the present disclosure may be worn on the wrist. In another embodiment, the chambered wristband 100, 200 may be worn on an ankle, or attached to a person. The chambered wristband 100, 200 may be made from silicone rubber or other flexible or non-flexible materials.
  • While the disclosure has been illustrated and described in detail in the drawings in character, it being understood that only certain embodiments have been shown and described and that all changes and modifications that come within the spirit of the disclosure are desired to be protected.

Claims (20)

What is claimed is:
1. A wristband comprising:
a body including one or more chambers formed therein and a cap retainer disposed adjacent to the chamber opening; and
a cap including a cap seat and a protrusion extending from the cap opposite the cap seat,
wherein the cap seat interfaces with the cap retainer, and the cap seals the chamber from the environment.
2. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the body comprises a flexible material.
3. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the body varies in thickness along its length.
4. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the body has one or more apertures therethrough along its length.
5. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the body has an interior surface that is substantially smooth.
6. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the wristband further comprises multiple caps.
7. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the protrusion is round.
8. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the protrusion is oval.
9. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the cap includes a plurality of protrusions.
10. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the cap substantially conforms to the chamber.
11. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the cap is attached to the body with a hinge.
12. The wristband of claim 1, wherein the protrusion substantially conforms to the shape of a pill, tablet, blister packet, or other form of medication.
13. A wristband comprising:
a body including one or more chambers formed therein and a recessed groove at or near the chamber opening; and
a cap including a covering base, a protrusion extending from the cap opposite the covering base, and a tab extending from the cap,
wherein the cap seals the chamber from the environment.
14. The wristband of claim 13, wherein the body comprises a flexible material.
15. The wristband of claim 13, wherein the cap is attached to the body with a hinge.
16. The wristband of claim 13, wherein the protrusion comprises a sealing ridge and the sealing ridge substantially conforms to the recessed groove.
17. The wristband of claim 13, wherein the protrusion substantially encloses a form of medication.
18. A wristband comprising:
a body including one or more chambers formed therein, a groove within the chamber, and a lip disposed adjacent to the chamber opening; and
a cap including a cap seat, a flange extending from the cap seat, a container protrusion defining a cavity and extending from the cap opposite the cap seat, and a ridge extending from the container protrusion,
wherein the flange interfaces with the lip, the ridge interfaces with the groove within the chamber, and the cap seals the chamber from the environment.
19. The wristband of claim 19, wherein the cavity substantially conforms to a medication.
20. The wristband of claim 20, where the body and cap are a flexible material.
