Abstract
The Cool Seat is a stadium seat cushion that uses frozen gel packs enclosed in insulation and a waterproof cover to keep a person cool in extremely hot weather.
Description
- This application claims priority to provisional application No. 61/690,385 filed Jun. 26, 2012.
- The Cool Seat is designed to keep a person comfortable in extremely hot weather for an extended period of time.
- The coolant in the seat consists of multiple frozen gel packs as shown in
FIGS. 2A and 2B , insulated to release the cooling effect at a slow rate. The back of the seat is a thicker insulation to minimize the amount of coolness that escapes out the back. The front of the seat is a thinner insulation to allow a gradual escape of coolness from the frozen gel packs, thereby keeping the user cool.FIGS. 1A and 1B show the layers of insulation from a side view. - The cover, shown in
FIG. 3 , is a hinged unit that holds the seat back and bottom together and attaches to the stadium chair. The surface of the seat cover is a waterproof fabric that is comfortable to the skin, yet easy to clean. After each use, the seat can be cleaned and placed in the freezer to get ready for its next use. - The Cool Seat will also be configured to fit stadium bleacher seats and lawn chairs.

FIG. 1A is a side view of the seat back. The rectangle on the left is the rear part of the seat back unit, a solid piece of closed cell foam used for insulation. FIG. 2A is a front view of the seat back without the front piece of foam. The middle section of foam has squares cut out in a picture frame design. Gel packs are inserted into each of the four square pockets. After the gel packs are inserted, the front piece of foam is glued on to the middle section to seal the gel packs in place. -
FIG. 2B is a front view of the seat bottom without the front piece of foam. The seat bottom is identical to the seat back, as described inFIG. 2A . -
FIG. 3 is a side view of the seat cover. The cover is made of made of waterproof fabric that is comfortable to the skin, yet easy to clean. Both the seat back and bottom sections of the cover contain pockets where the foam/gel pack units can be inserted. - The pockets have flaps with Velcro to keep the pockets closed. A reinforced canvas strip connects the set back to the seat bottom and allows the seat to hinge.
Claims (3)
1. a stadium cool seat cushion, comprising:
a. frozen gel packs;
b. insulating foam to hold the gel packs in place and regulate heat transfer;
c. and a hinged waterproof cover to hold the seat back and seat bottom together and attach to the stadium seat.
2. a stadium cool seat cushion, as cited in claim 1 , configured to fit stadium bleacher seats.
3. a cool seat cushion, as cited in claim 1 , configured to fit lawn chairs.
