Abstract
The present invention relates to glow in the dark luminous attachable basketball rim, somewhat tubular and circular, more particularly, to a flexible luminous glow in the dark, also marked with reflectors positioned equidistantly of each other, to provide better visibility with targeting features to assist the shooter at basketball rims. Currently basketball rims only have a net affixed to them and have no distinguishing features to aim at besides the backboard and do not glow at night.
Description
- The present invention relates to basketball rim cover, and more particularly, to a flexible glow in the dark, colored, marked with reflectors positioned diametrical of each other, to provide better visibility with targeting features to assist the shooter. Currently basketball rims only have a net affixed to them and have no distinguishing features to aim at besides the backboard.
- The present invention relates to a basketball glow in the dark rubber attachable rim cover apparatus tubular and circular in shape with a slit along its length to allow a fitting over an existing basketball rim that is a flexible member fitted on the perimeter of a basketball rim. The device is a 54″ snap on rubber rim apparatus that is attachable to a basketball rim and is covered in a glow in the dark phosphorescent compound coated with gloss epoxy protectant. Situated on the apparatus positioned equidistantly from each other are 5 reflectors similar to ones used on cargo trailers. Reflectors are positioned from the center of the apparatus and measuring equally in the distance on both sides, they are placed on the apparatus to provide a source of illumination during the day as well as creating an aiming point to increase accuracy also night play. tubular rim apparatus 0 as it is installed on a hoop rim. Theapparatus 0 consists of a tubular construction of rubber hose material coated with glow in the dark phosphorescent pigment paint providing also covered with a gloss epoxy protectant making it weather proof as well as a lit up rim for night use. The rubber tubular construction is shaped similar to a hollow circular tube of circular cross section having a slit throughout its length and on the bottom side so that it can be draped over and existing hoop rim whereby it will hold itself in the installed position. There are five reflectors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (FIG. 1 through 5 ) similar to one used on a cargo trailers; the reflective tape causing an illumination when hit by light; positioned diametrically and equidistantly aligned with each other along the rubber tubular rim apparatus, these reflectors compel a shooter to shoot a basketball with more accuracy by providing a target on the rubber tubular rim apparatus which to aim at. - According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the reflectors located at the far left 4 (leftmost) and far right 5 (rightmost) of the rim are represented as being located diametrically opposite each other on the rim 6 (as viewed in
FIGS. 1 through 5 ), though other locations for the reflectors are foreseeable. The center reflector 1 (as viewed inFIGS. 1 through 5 ) is equi-angularly located between the leftmost 4 and rightmost reflectors 5, and the two remaining reflectors 2,3 are represented as being equi-angularly located between either the leftmost 4 and center reflector 1 or the rightmost 5 and center reflector 1 (as viewed inFIGS. 1 through 5 ). In the use of theapparatus 0, the reflectors 1 through 5 are secured on the tubular rim cover apparatus as shown inFIGS. 1 through 5 , and the user then shoots a basketball at the rim 6 to the nearest reflector without the concern on damaging the rim apparatus, player can dunk the ball as well without having to remove tubular rim apparatus. The reflectors 1 through 5 on the apparatus encourage the shooter to align the shot with the nearest reflector and force the shooter to shoot the basketball with more accuracy. - The rubber attachable tubular rim cover is as well as the reflective markers to increase accuracy. they optional elements are repositioning the reflective markers by adding more or taking fewer away
- The glow in the dark rubber attachable rim cover apparatus somewhat tubular and circular in shape with a slit along its length to allow a fitting over an existing basketball rim that is a flexible member situated on/over the perimeter of a basketball rim. - The attachable rim is made of rubber to prevent damage and provide durability in various weather. It is also heavily coated with a glow in the dark compound (phosphorescent pigment) coated with gloss epoxy protectant to make the rubber rim glow in the night with 5 plastic reflectors positioned equidistantly from each other around the apparatus. There are Reflectors similar to the ones used on a diesel or cargo trailers made of sticky plastic with reflective sides. The reflectors provide a point to aim at, it also provides reflective light during the day. Also during the night the reflectors are dimmer and provide a dark space in the glowing rim that can be used as an aiming point as well.
- There are 5 reflectors positioned equidistantly from one another. Reflector 1
FIG. 1-5 is positioned at a 90 degree standing angle from free throw line. Also, there reflectors 2 and 3 on each side of the apparatus located in between reflectors 1,4 á″ 1,5 creating a 45 degree angle standing angle middle ways of the baseline of a basketball court and the free throw line. Then there a reflectors 4 and 5 that a located each on far side of the apparatusFIG. 1-5 , that are diametrically opposite of each other. The reflectors 4 and 5 are creating a 90 degree angle when apparatus in mounted in the basketball rim, standing on the baseline shooting a baseline shot or fade away. - A person would need to construct a rubber hose attachment that can fit to a standard basketball hoop rim. There needs to be a slit under the bottom of the rubber hose attachment to get a fit. The hose attachment needs to be coated in phosphorescent pigment paint coated with gloss epoxy protectant to provide for weatherproofing and night play. (a) Reflectors 1 through 5 are positioned equidistantly and diametrically along the attachable 55
inch rubber rim 0 glow in the dark (phosphorescent pigmented) apparatus - There can be more reflectors added to give more angles to shoot at.
- A basketball glow in the dark rubber attachable rim cover apparatus somewhat tubular and circular in shape with a slit along its length to allow a fitting over an existing basketball rim that is a flexible member situated on/over the perimeter of a basketball rim. The device is a 55-56 inch snap on rubber rim apparatus that is attachable to a basketball rim and is covered in a glow in the dark phosphorescent compound coated with gloss epoxy protectant. Also situated on the apparatus positioned equidistantly from each other there are 5 reflectors similar to ones used on cargo trailers. Reflectors are positioned from the center of the apparatus and measuring equally in the distance on both sides, they are placed on the apparatus to provide a source of illumination during the day as well as creating an aiming point to increase accuracy, also in the night when the rim glows the reflectors create dark spaces within the glowing apparatus. U.S. Pat. No. 6,935,966 discloses a basketball hoop rim cover that is made of a material that encompasses most of the hoop. The attachment is bright in color with nubs protruding inwardly to assist shooter. This is not how this invention increases the shooter accuracy or how the goal is made more visible during the night or day. In combination with basketball rim, an attachable rubber 55á□ inch tubular rim covered with glow in the dark (phosphorescent pigmented) paint that is coated with gloss epoxy protectant for weatherproofing, as well as 5 reflectors positioned equidistantly

Claims (7)
1) Mounting an attachable luminous glow in the dark rubber somewhat tubular ring construction 0 internally mixed to rubber or painted with a glow in the dark phosphorescent pigmented paint that can be coated with a gloss epoxy protectant for weatherproofing with reflectors 1 through 5 positioned on it for target accuracy makes the shooter more precise when shooting a basketball.
2) The basketball shooting system according to claim 1 , wherein the apparatus comprises at least 5 reflectors positioned around the apparatus.
3) The basketball shooting system according to claim 1 wherein the reflectors 1 through 5 are color coded to help differentiate between the rim aid and desired target on the rim aid.
4) The basketball shooting system according to claim 1 wherein the breakdown of the perimeter of the rim into sections by use of the reflectors makes for more accuracy.
5) The device of claim 1 comprised substantially of rubber
6) The device of claim 1 comprised of reflective tape and plastic
7) The device of claim 1 comprised of substantial amounts of luminescent phosphorescent pigment paint and can be coated with gloss epoxy protectant to provide for weatherproofing and night play.
