Abstract
A fan assembly includes a rack, a shield, and a fan. The rack defines a first vent opening and a second vent opening aligned with the first vent opening. The shield is mounted in the rack and aligned with the first vent opening. The shield defines a frame opening corresponding to the first vent opening. A plurality of shielding pieces are pivotally mounted in the frame opening and adapted to use gravity to shield the frame opening. The fan is mounted in the rack and aligned with the second vent opening and the shield. The fan generates air flows flowing through air passages between each adjacent two of the plurality of shielding pieces, and that the plurality of shielding pieces are rotated by the air flows.
Description
- 1. Technical Field
- The present disclosure relates to fan assemblies, and more particularly to a fan assembly in an electronic device for dissipating heat from the electronic device.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- A large amount of heat may be generated from electric elements of an electronic device during operation. If the heat is not dissipated efficiently, the electric elements may be damaged. Therefore, efficient heat-dissipating devices are desired.
- A fan is often used as a conventional means to dissipate the heat from the electronic device. In conventional means, a rack is provided for receiving a plurality of fans. A plurality of through holes are defined in the rack for vent air. However, debris or air particles may enter the electronic device via the plurality of through holes. The debris or air particles may cause damages to the electronic device.
- Therefore, there is room for improvement within the art.
- Many aspects of the embodiments can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the embodiments. Moreover, in the drawings, like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

FIG. 3 is an isometric view of a shield cover of the fan assembly ofFIG. 1 . -

FIG. 5 is another assembled view of the fan assembly ofFIG. 1 . - The disclosure is illustrated by way of example and not by way of limitation in the figures of the accompanying drawings in which like references indicate similar elements. It should be noted that references to “an” or “one” embodiment in this disclosure are not necessarily to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.

FIGS. 1 and 2 show a fan assembly in accordance with an embodiment including arack 20, afan 30, and ashield 40. - The
rack 20 includes afirst side wall 21 and a parallelsecond side wall 23. After therack 20 is mounted in an electronic device, thesecond side wall 23 is located in the electronic device, and thefirst side wall 21 is located out of the electronic device. A plurality ofpartitions 25 are secured between thefirst side wall 21 and thesecond side wall 23 to form a plurality ofreceiving rooms 27 in therack 20. Each of the plurality ofreceiving rooms 27 is adapted to receive thefan 30 and theshield 40. Thefirst side wall 21 defines a first vent opening 211 and anotch 213 corresponding to each of the plurality ofreceiving room 27. Thenotch 213 is located above the first vent opening 211. Thesecond side wall 23 defines a second vent opening 231 corresponding to each of the plurality ofreceiving rooms 27. The first vent opening 211 is aligned to the second vent opening 231. Each of the plurality ofpartitions 25 forms alimiting piece 251 separating corresponding one of the plurality ofreceiving rooms 27 into a fan receiving room (not labeled) and a shield receiving room (not labeled). A distance between thesecond side wall 23 and thelimiting piece 251 is larger than that between thefirst side wall 21 and thelimiting piece 251. The fan receiving room is located adjacent thesecond side wall 23. The shield receiving room is located adjacent thefirst side wall 21. Each of the plurality ofpartitions 25 defines amounting hole 253. - The
fan 30 includes ashell 31 and a group of blades (not labeled) rotatably mounted in theshell 31. Theshell 31 includes a side plate 34. Anelastic piece 35 is located on the side plate 34. Aprotrusion 351 is formed on theelastic piece 35. -
FIGS. 2 and 3 , show theshield 40 includes aframe 41. A top portion of theframe 41 extends upward to form alock 43. Thelock 43 includes aconnection piece 431, abent piece 432, and ahandle 433. Theconnection piece 431 is connected to theframe 41. Thebent piece 432 is perpendicularly connected to a top portion of theconnection piece 431. Thehandle 433 is perpendicularly connected to thebent piece 432. Atab 435 is formed on a connection portion of thebent piece 432 and theconnection piece 431. A center portion of theframe 41 is hollow to define a frame opening 418. A plurality ofparallel pivot shafts 413 are pivotally mounted in the frame opening 418. The plurality ofparallel pivot shafts 413 are aligned in a vertical direction. - Each of the plurality of
pivot shafts 413 secures ashielding piece 46. Theshielding piece 46 includes asecuring portion 467 and afree portion 468. Thesecuring portion 467 is secured on corresponding one of the plurality ofpivot shafts 413. Theshielding piece 46 is substantially a rectangle. Theshielding piece 46 is adapted to rotate together with the corresponding one of the plurality ofpivot shafts 413. Theshielding piece 46 includes afirst side face 461 and asecond side face 462. Between adjacent two of theshielding pieces 46, thesecond side face 462 of thefree portion 468 of one of theshielding piece 46 is located on thefirst side face 461 of thesecuring portion 467 of another one of theshielding piece 46. All of theshielding pieces 46 mounted on the plurality ofpivot shafts 413 can shield the entire frame opening 418. An edge of the frame opening 418 forms a plurality ofblocking bars 417 corresponding to each of theshielding pieces 46. -
FIGS. 1 to 5 , show in assembly, thefan 30 is placed into the fan receiving room of each of the plurality ofreceiving rooms 27. Theelastic piece 35 is elastically bent by each of the plurality ofpartitions 25. Thefan 30 is moved until theprotrusion 351 is aligned to the mountinghole 253. Theelastic piece 35 rebounds to insert theprotrusion 351 in the mountinghole 253 mounting thefan 30 in each of the plurality of receivingrooms 27. In this position, thefan 30 is aligned to the second vent opening 231. - The
shield 40 is placed into the shield receiving room of each of the plurality of receivingrooms 27. Thesecond side plate 462 of each of the plurality of shieldingpiece 46 faces thefan 30. Thetab 435 of theshield 40 is locked in thenotch 213 of therack 20 mounting theshield 40 in each of the plurality of receivingrooms 27. In each of the plurality of receivingrooms 27, the limitingpiece 251 separates theshield 40 from thefan 30. At this position, thefirst side face 461 of each of the shieldingpiece 46 faces thefirst vent opening 211. - When the fan assembly is mounted on the electronic device and the
fan 30 works, thefan 30 rotates to drive air to flow into thefan 30 via the second vent opening 231. Air flows through thefan 30 and towards to second side faces 462 of the plurality of shieldingpieces 46 of theshield 40. Each of the plurality of shieldingpieces 46 are blown to rotate in theframe opening 418. Therefore, an air passage 80 (referring toFIG. 5 ) is defined between twoadjacent shielding pieces 46. Air flows out of therack 20 via theair passages 80. Each of the plurality of blockingbars 417 blocks thecorresponding shielding piece 46 to prevent over-rotation. - If the
fan 30 does not rotate, the plurality of shieldingpieces 46 automatically shield theair passages 80 and the frame opening 418 with gravity on the plurality of shieldingpieces 46. Therefore, debris or air particles cannot enter into the electronic device via the first and the 211 and 231 of thesecond vent openings rack 20. - It is to be understood, however, that even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the embodiments have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and functions of the embodiments, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in the matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
Claims (16)
1. A fan assembly, comprising:
a rack defining a first vent opening and a second vent opening aligned to the first vent opening,
a shield mounted in the rack and aligned to the first vent opening, the shield defining a frame opening corresponding to the first vent opening, a plurality of shielding pieces pivotally mounted in the frame opening and adapted to shield the frame opening by gravity; and
a fan mounted in the rack and aligned to the second vent opening and the shield; the fan is configured to generate air flows flowing through air passages between each adjacent two of the plurality of shielding pieces, and that the plurality of shielding pieces are rotated by the air flows.
2. The fan assembly of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of pivot shafts are pivotally mounted in the frame opening, the plurality of pivot shafts are parallel with each other and aligned in a vertical direction, and each of the plurality of shielding pieces is secured to each of the plurality of pivot shafts.
3. The fan assembly of claim 2 , wherein each of the plurality of shielding pieces comprises a securing portion and a free portion, and the securing portion is mounted on corresponding one of the plurality of pivot shafts.
4. The fan assembly of claim 3 , wherein each of the plurality of shielding pieces comprises a first side and a second side, the first side faces the first vent opening, the second side faces the fan; and between each adjacent two shielding pieces, a second side face of the free portion of one of the two shielding pieces is located on a first face of the securing portion of another one of the two shielding pieces.
5. The fan assembly of claim 1 , wherein an edge of the frame opening forms a blocking bar corresponding to each of the plurality of shielding pieces, and each of the plurality of shielding pieces is configured to rotate until each of the plurality of shielding pieces abuts the blocking bar.
6. The fan assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fan comprises a side plate, an elastic piece is located on the side plate, a protrusion is formed on the elastic piece, the rack defines a mounting hole, and the elastic piece is configure to be elastically bent by the rack such that the protrusion is mounted in the mounting hole.
7. The fan assembly of claim 1 , wherein the rack defines a notch above the first vent opening, the shield comprises a lock, the lock comprises a connection piece, a bent piece, and a handle, the connection piece is connected to the shield, the bent piece is perpendicularly connected to a top portion of the connection piece, the handle is perpendicularly connected to the bent piece, a tab is formed on a connection portion between the bent piece and the connection piece, the bent piece is configured to be elastically bent by the rack such that the tab is mounted in the notch, and the handle is configured to be pulled to bent the bent piece and to move the tab out of the notch.
8. The fan assembly of claim 1 , wherein the rack comprises a limiting piece separating the shield from the fan.
9. A fan assembly, comprising:
a rack comprising a first side wall and a second side wall, the first side wall defining a first vent opening, the second side wall defining a second vent opening aligned to the first vent opening;
a fan mounted between the first side wall and the second side wall, the fan aligned to the second vent opening;
a shield mounted between the fan and the first side wall, the shield defining a frame opening aligned to the fan and the first vent opening, a plurality of shielding pieces pivotally mounted in the frame opening and configured to cover the frame opening;
wherein the fan is configured to blow air towards the plurality of shielding pieces such that the plurality of shielding pieces are rotated to uncover the frame opening.
10. The fan assembly of claim 9 , wherein a plurality of pivot shafts are pivotally mounted in the frame opening, the plurality of pivot shafts are parallel with each other and aligned in a vertical direction, and each of the plurality of shielding pieces is secured to each of the plurality of pivot shafts.
11. The fan assembly of claim 10 , wherein each of the plurality of shielding pieces comprises a securing portion and a free portion, and the securing portion is mounted on corresponding one of the plurality of pivot shafts.
12. The fan assembly of claim 11 , wherein each of the plurality of shielding pieces comprises a first side and a second side, the first side faces the first vent opening, the second side faces the fan; and between each adjacent two shielding pieces, a second side face of the free portion of one of the two shielding pieces is located on a first face of the securing portion of another one of the two shielding pieces.
13. The fan assembly of claim 9 , wherein an edge of the frame opening forms a blocking bar corresponding to each of the plurality of shielding pieces, and each of the plurality of shielding pieces is configured to rotate until each of the plurality of shielding pieces abuts the blocking bar.
14. The fan assembly of claim 9 , wherein the fan comprises a side plate, an elastic piece is located on the side plate, a protrusion is formed on the elastic piece, the rack defines a mounting hole, and the elastic piece is configured to be elastically bent by the rack such that the protrusion is mounted in the mounting hole.
15. The fan assembly of claim 9 , wherein the rack defines a notch above the first vent opening, the shield comprises a lock, the lock comprises a connection piece, a bent piece, and a handle, the connection piece is connected to the shield, the bent piece is perpendicularly connected to a top portion of the connection piece, the handle is perpendicularly connected to the bent piece, a tab is formed on a connection portion between the bent piece and the connection piece, the bent piece is configured to be elastically bent by the rack such that the tab is mounted in the notch, and the handle is configured to be pulled to bent the bent piece and to move the tab out of the notch.
16. The fan assembly of claim 9 , wherein the rack comprises a limiting piece separating the shield from the fan.
