Abstract
A fully self-contained, transportable burning unit for logging by-products with low calorific value waste. Non-mechanical unit with natural draft to create a hot burn situation with low smoke particulates. Closable screened lid during non-attended times for continued burn.
Description
- The invention relates to the field of logging waste disposal through burning.
- Due to the vast amount of beetle infested trees in the western U.S. and the large amount of slash and logging waste produced, a reasonable alternative was needed to decrease the problems created with open burning. Due to reduced burn season time, conditions, climate, and area restrictions the invention of this controlled and contained burn apparatus seeks to solve most issues related to the problems of seasonal burning while promoting a safe burning environment. Due to the design of the Slash-erator contained burning unit, a hot and almost smoke-less bum plus a large capacity for waste elimination solves issues including location, mobility, safety, and simplicity. A variety of sizes manufactured allows easy accommodation of varying sites and conditions to accommodate specific needs.
- It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a contained apparatus to burn logging by-products in a safe, controlled situation. Portable and easily moved around a ground site.
- A. Simply and easily operated.

- C. Natural drafting design with no mechanical equipment to service.
- D. Easy access for fire ignition.
- E. All draft holes screened and also used for viewing ports.
- F. Closable screen lid for unattended burning.
- G. No extensive burn marks on ground to damage existing area.
- H. Virtually no smoke, due to the hot and fast burn.
- I. Various sizes to accommodate any situation.
- J. Large capacity for efficient removal and cost reduction

FIG. 1 : Shows the draft design of the invention during operation. After ignition, a row of 2″ screened vents (Primary) causes a rapid suction of air into the unit. As the fire spreads, the 6″ screened vents (Secondary) causes a rotation of air inside resulting in the re-burning of the smoke and any particulates, thus reducing particulate release before exiting the unit. The continuous suction and rotation of air occurs and multiplies with the burning process as material is burned. - The lower unscreened 2″ vents below ash pan lip line decreases heat with a cooling flow of air in the lower portion of the unit to increase fire safety on the ground.

Claims (6)
1. A self contained metal apparatus that can be loaded manually or with machinery that can be ignited in a safely controlled situation. Natural drafting design and hole pattern allows air flow to be drawn in at a 360 degree area around apparatus. A continuous 2″ screened hole pattern below a 6″ screened hole pattern creates a rotation of air drawing downward the particulates for re-burning thus reducing smoke. The fixed ash pan allows for easier cleaning after extended use. A closable screened lid allows for continued burning during un-attended hours. A rear door allows for easy access into apparatus for ignition or ash removal.
2. The method according to claim 1 , stating the metal apparatus is comprised of a pair of runners located on the ground with a solid metal floor and 3 solid metal sides with a metal door at one end. The lid consists of a metal frame covered with a mesh to allow heat to escape but restrict ash or cinder release.
3. The method according to claim 2 , stating natural drafting occurs with a designed 2 row hole pattern in the apparatus at a 360 degree pattern, creating the drawing action and rotation of air causing a hotter burn which in turn reduces smoke particulates.
4. The method according to claim 3 , stating there is a fixed ash pan allowing for easier cleaning and also protection of apparatus floor and cooling around tower portion of apparatus through 2″ heat vent holes located along sides allowing for heat dispersal. Heat dispersal occurs with the design of the ash pan installed within the apparatus and heat vents.
5. The method according to claim 4 , stating the screened lid is closable during unattended hours also acts as a wind break during burning periods while operators toad material during the course of the burn. The tight mesh on the lid reduces any ash or hot cinders from escaping, while closed for safer unattended burning allowing waste to be burned continuously.
6. The method according to claim 5 , stating the apparatus has a door on the rear for easier and safer cleaning.
