Abstract

The “Oil Genie” offers an alternative for the proper disposal of used cooking oil, shortening, and animal fats in a safe, convenient, disposable container.
There is no longer the need to look for an empty can, risking possible burns or messes, or the pouring of these materials into the sink causing the possibility of clogged drains or polluting of fresh water supplies.
The waste material can be poured directly from the hot pan, with no mess, no burning and no odors. Once filled it is thrown away with your trash.

Description

  • The Oil Genie is a safe alternative for the disposal of used cooking oil, shortening or excess animal fat (directly from the pan after cooking or scraped after cooled).
  • 1. Proper disposal of used cooking oil is an important waste-management concern. Oil is lighter than water and tends to spread into thin and broad membranes which hinder the oxygenation of water. Because of this, a single liter of oil can contaminate as much as 1 million liters of water. Also, oil can congeal on pipes provoking blockages.
  • Because of this, cooking oil should never be dumped on the kitchen sink or in the toilet bowl. The proper way to dispose of oil is to put it in a sealed non-recyclable container and discard it with regular garbage.
  • The Oil Genie offers a stainless steel airtight canister (approximately 8″ H with a 5″ diameter with a liquid capacity of 60 oz) it features an attached locking, clear plastic lid and gasket to prevent spillage of contents. This canister is for containment of the disposable cartridge that will house the waste material (e.g., used oil, shortening or drained animal fat).
  • The Oil Genie disposable cartridge has an oil absorbent clay material inside container that absorbs the waste oil, shortening or animal fat. The oil absorbent is a natural earth product. In the mixture, Sodium Bicarbonate is added to control odors.
  • It is intended for counter top “home use only” and will have safety labels, proper fill line, and safe handling and disposal instructions.
  • The outer canister is made of stainless steel and should be washed with liquid degreaser after each use and before a new disposable cartridge is put into canister.
  • The disposable cartridge will feature a lid to cover the unit once when it has reached the full level and dispose of properly in the trash can.
  • The disposable cartridge will be pre-filled and pre measured with the proper amount of absorbent mixture and ready for use to the consumer.
  • The “Oil Genie” system will be made available in other sizes and liquid capacity however the 60 oz. unit will be for everyday use.
  • The used oil, shortening or animal fat can be poured into canister hot directly from pan or after it has cooled.
  • The product has been used and tested by the inventors as a prototype and put into use at there home since Feb. 8, 2010.
  • The Oil Genie is an alternative to dumping used oil directly into kitchen sinks thus possible clogging of drain pipes and polluting water supplies. It also avoids fumbling through the trash can looking for a can to pour oil into sometimes burning yourself or spilling oil on counters and floors.
  • A registered sealed envelope was mailed to the inventors' home on Feb. 16, 2010 along with summary, pictures and original receipts for products purchased to make said prototype.
  • The first provisional patent application was filed on May 11, 2010 and under application Ser. No. 61/395,324.
  • This is a concept or idea utilizing products available to the consumer; it is the gathering of the products and the putting them together for the purpose of proper disposal of waste oil that is being submitted for patent, as well as the “Oil Genie” system.
