Abstract

The present invention relates to a lightweight necklace comprising: a ribbon assembly; a strand extending from each end of the ribbon assembly; and an adjustable knot, where the extending strands create the knot. The ribbon assembly includes a plurality of strands of ribbon yarn stitched and knotted together at the ends of the assembly. In one particular embodiment, the ribbon assembly includes five strands of ribbon yarn stitched to create a 14-inch length ribbon assembly. The knot provides a means to adjust the length of the tie strands.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention
The present invention relates to a ribbon strand necklace that provides a unique means of creating a lightweight necklace.
2. Description of Related Art
A necklace is an article of jewelry that adorns an individual's neck area. A necklace may be formed of various metals or chains and often may include a locket, pendant or other additional articles of jewelry incorporated with the necklace. Some necklaces have been manufactured of wood, cloth, shells and other materials. The necklace may also incorporate gems such as diamonds, opals, rubies, jade or turquoise to name a few. The necklace has been popular jewelry piece for hundreds and thousands of years and individuals have used them to adorn themselves in various manners. Necklaces also come in various lengths where shorter necklaces known as chokers fit snuggly around an individual's neck and another variation of necklace includes the long opera style necklace, which sits well below the breastbone of an individual. A bib style bead necklace may include multiple strands of pearls and may create a centerpiece of jewelry for an individual.
The arrangements for jewelry necklaces are widely varied and therefore various techniques have been developed to make necklaces to suit the various styles and needs of individuals. Depending on the materials used and length of a necklace, weight may become a factor when either manufacturing or wearing a necklace. Most individuals prefer a lightweight necklace however some necklaces have been of heavier materials and may be unsuitable for daily wear. In order to alleviate any problems with the heavier style necklace it would be advantageous to have a lightweight necklace that's adjustable and provides a suitable and attractive means of adornment by the user.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention relates to a ribbon style yarn necklace that creates highly visible jewelry to adorn and embellish garments of the user. The present invention provides a less bulky and a lightweight alternative for a necklace. The ribbon necklace includes a plurality of separate strands of ribbon yarn crocheted together to create a unique and attractive piece of jewelry for the user. The plurality of strands are stitched and crocheted together and include a tie strand that extends from the grouping to provide a means to attach and adjust the length of the necklace around a user's neck.
Referring now to FIG. 1, a Necklace 100 according to the present invention is depicted. The Necklace 100 includes a Ribbon Assembly 14 that adorns a significant portion of the
Necklace 100. The Necklace 14 includes a plurality of strands of ribbon yarn stitched and knotted together at the ends of the Assembly 14. The Ribbon Assembly 14 creates a means of adornment that is lightweight and allows an individual to embellish their appearance in a fashionable manner. In one particular embodiment, five strands of ribbon yarn are stitched to create a 14-inch length Ribbon Assembly 14. The strands are knotted together at each end of the
Ribbon Assembly 14 with a single strand extending beyond the Ribbon Assembly 14 at each end thereof. The extending strands are depicted in FIG. 1 as Tie Strands 16 a, 16 b. The Tie Strands 16 a, 16 b provides means to attach and adjust the length of the Necklace 100 as desired. The Tie Strands 16 a, 16 b joined together at a Knot 12 as shown in FIG. 1. Knot 12 provides a means to adjust the length of the Tie Strands 16 a, 16 b and therefore the length of the necklace.
This adjustment allows the user to adjust the length that the necklace hangs around the user's neck.
The Necklace 100 provides a fashionable necklace that is lightweight due to the ribbon material used in the creation thereof. The Necklace 100 is less bulky and therefore less of a burden for an individual to wear. Further the adjustability of the necklace allows for the user to adjust the length of the lightweight necklace as desired. Each individual strand of the Ribbon Assembly 14 is individually crotched and stitched together to create the configuration of the Ribbon Assembly 14. The instant invention has been shown and described in what it considers to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made there from within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.

Claims

1. A lightweight necklace comprising:

a. a ribbon assembly;

b. a strand extending from each end of the ribbon assembly; and

c. an adjustable knot, where the extending strands create the knot.

2. The lightweight necklace according to claim 1, where the ribbon assembly includes a plurality of strands of ribbon yarn stitched and knotted together at the ends of the assembly.

3. The lightweight necklace according to claim 1, where the ribbon assembly includes five strands of ribbon yarn stitched to create a 14-inch length ribbon assembly.

4. The lightweight necklace according to claim 1, where the knot provides a means to adjust the length of the tie strands.
