Abstract

A structural wall has a self-supporting wall externally being provided with laths for attachment of a base plate for an outer plaster layer. The base plate consists of a wood composite material comprising polyurethane mixed with wood wool and is having good insulating ability. To utilize the insulating properties of the base plate and provide for a better fire rated wall, the spacing between the laths, originally being a air-gap, is filed with a rock wool mat having drainage facility for moisture at the side facing the base plate.

Description

    FIELD OF INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a structural wall.
  • BACKGROUND
  • Such walls are often vented on the inner surface of the base plate such that the insulating ability of the base plate is not especially utilized. Further, the base plate is not fire retardant involving such walls that are not approved for buildings having more than two floors.
  • SUMMARY
  • The objective of the present invention is to remedy the disadvantage mentioned above. According to the invention, this is achieved by means of a structural wall.
  • By filling the gap between the self-supporting wall and the base plate with a fire retardant material, a double supplementary insulation is achieved. Firstly, this is consisting of the insulating ability in the added insulating material and, secondly, by keeping the insulating ability of the base plate intact as no air circulation worth mentioning occurs on the inside thereof. Moreover, the fire retardant effect of the insulating material involves that building heights having more two floors can be allowed.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING(S)
  • For a better understanding of the invention, it is to be further discussed in the following by means of the embodiment being schematically shown in the accompanying drawing.
  • The drawing illustrates a horizontal view through a self-supporting frame work wall 1 having insulation 2. On the outer surface, the wall is having fastening devices 3, here in the form of laths 4, preferably with a dimension of 50×50 mm.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT(S)
  • Although the wall 1 is shown without any kind of venting slits in the drawing, the skilled person understands that the wall can be equipped with such venting slits. If so, these can be situated in a distance of 4 to 5 meters, or only at the top or bottom of the wall, or exclusively in the form of edges around doors and windows, or in any other suitable fashion in the wall.
  • At the laths, there are fastened base plates 5 made from wood composite material, preferably of the type bearing the trade designation Fasec and mainly comprising of polyurethane mixed with wood wool. One way of producing such plates 5 can be found in WO03/103922. The plates 5 can preferably have a thickness of 10-15 mm but this can be varied if needed.
  • In the gaps formed between the laths 4, it is situated a insulating material 6 in the form ,of rock wool mats 7 externally being provided with drainage facilities 8 for moisture, here in the form of vertical drainage slits 9. The insulating material 6 has preferably the same thickness as the laths 4 and can on the outer surface thereof be glued on the base plate 5.
  • On the outer surface the base plates 5 is equipped with a layer of plaster 10, preferably a cement-modified polymer plaster. To ensure sufficient attachment for the plaster 10, the base plates are added a suitable primer. The plaster provides for a jointless facade being very resistant to the weather and wind. The thickness of the plaster can approximately be 10 mm.
  • Besides, the illustrated wall construction is having a windproof and diffusion-open cardboard 11 externally on the insulation 2 of the frame work wall 1, and internally the wall 1 is having a 0.2 mm polyethylene sheet 12 and a 13 mm plasterboard 13.
  • It will be understood that the invention can also be used for other wall types that the one being illustrated and described. For instance, the invention is especially suitable for external supplementary insulation of concrete and brick walls. Tests of such walls in cold regions have proven that the relative humidity remains far below 100% on all points within the wall, thereby avoiding condensation. Such supplementary insulation will also be favourable in warm regions as it is reducing storage of heat within the wall during the day and, thus, is contributing to maintain the indoor temperature at a lower level.
  • Further, it will be understood that the insulating material can be any suitable material other than rock wool mats and that the drainage facilities thereof do not need to be vertical slits or channels. An irregular or uneven outer side of the material can be useful, or the drainage facility can inherently be within the construction of the material. Moreover, the thickness of the insulating material can be varied after requirements.
  • The skilled person will understand that additional possibilities for alterations and variations of the invention exist within the scope of the following patent claims.
