l 'Ihisainvention `relates tov containers 'andihasf View, the? Fig; 2 isnaktransverse sectionj tairengonrthe line t rige 3 Vis a fragmentary heriztieennteieen,
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary plan view i the sheet metal blank, and Y j Fig'. 5 isf-a, fragmentary longitudinalsection illustratinga slightly in'odied construction. e
Referring in detail to the drawing, the body of the container or caseisformed from a single slieet'nital blankfdie cut or stamped as seen in Fig. 4,5 to'providea bottom-Wall 5, side walls and-"end-tvallsA 1. These walls `form the main elongated rectangular compartment 8 of the container. I i e The-end walls 1 integrally connect the botton'iwall 5 with the longitudinal extensions 9, projecting from said end Walls,` exteriorly of the maincompartmentat the-open side of the latter. These extensions are bent to extend inwardly-in the vplane ofthe bottom Wall 5fan`d form Vsupplernental compartmentsv I0 at each end of'thecontainen The `end portions Il of said extensionsarebent to extend at right angles to lsaid bottomwall and lin close contact with the o uterffaces of the end walls 1.
lThe outer surfaces of the bottomwall 5 of the mainfcorripartment and the walls of the `supple- -x'nental compartments are covered by a flexible sheet of ornamental'materialtlz, the ends of which are extended inwardly upon the winner faces of the end Walls 1.
' It is an importantf feature of my invention to provide 'sm'pleand-easily appliedimeans for rnechanically securing or interlocking the ends of this ornamental sheet and the end portions Il of the walls ofthe supplementalcompartments tothe walls 1 ofthe main compartment of the container. 4To this end I provide the walls 1, near each end th`ereof, withA spaced `apertures i3,v to receive the bendabley tongues I4, integrally formed Withthe portions Il ofthe extensions 9. After' these extensions have. been bent to form thelsupplem'ental compartments, the tongues are projected inwardly through'the respective apere tures I3."V Sideeplates l5, having narrow mareA the compartments 8 and I0, .between theflanges i I6, and the inwardly extended ends of this cover are pierced by one of the tongues I4 in each pair near the open side of the compartment 8. The ends of these tongues are then bent inwardly and tightly clinched upon the cover material. The ends of the other tongues I4, near the botto-m wall 5, are then bent outwardly and tightly clinched against the inner faces of the end Walls '1. In this manner the ends II of the compartment walls 9 are rigidly fixed to the end walls of the main compartment and the exible cover I2 also securely held under tension in its applied position. Thus I am enabled to eliminate the additional frame within the main compartment, as shown in the Zell patent, yand thereby secure greater useful capacity of said compartment Without increasing the case dimensions.
One of the end walls 'I is provided at its opposite ends with the integral arms or extensions I'I, bent at right angles to said wall to extend inwardlyalonguthe opposite side walls Iuof the case body. These arms are preferably welded or otherwise permanently secured to the walls E and have theirends oiset, as at I8, and apertured to receive the ends of the hinge rod I9 for the door or closure 2li.
This door and the latch-*means 2| therefor, which is housed in one of the supplemental compartments I0, may be of the same construction as that disclosed in the issued patent above referred to. When the device is used as a vanity case, alip stick may be removably contained in the other supplemental compartment IIJ, `while other cosmetics are suitably arranged and con- .e fined in the main compartment 8.
In Fig. 5 of the drawing I have illustrated a slight modication wherein each of the supplementaLcOmpartments IIJ is formed from a separate metal sheet 9', one end portion I I of which isengaged with the wall] of compartment 8, while the otherv end thereof is formed with a narrow ange 22. The upper end of the wall I is anged outwardly, as at 23, the edge of said flange being bent to provide a continuous upwardlyV opening channel 24 which receives the ange 22, and upon which the Walls of said channel are tightly clinched. The part II is provided with bendable tongues `for securing the same, together with the end of the flexible covering sheet, to the wall v'I in the manner previously described.
From the above description, considered in con-` nection with the accompanying drawing, it will befseen that I havedevised acase or container structure which can be fabricated at very low c'ost and utilized for many different purposes. While I have shown a case having a general contour simulating that of the conventional Kodak camera, as inthe issued patent, it will be understood that this is not material, and the walls of the compartmentsl may be otherwise shaped or formed. i Alsofthe 'case structure may be produced in v-various sizes, with the compartments 8- and IB of other relative proportions'than that indicated inthe drawing.
' Therefore, while I have herein disclosed a preferred practical .embodiment of my invention', itl
willbe understood`4 that the essential features thereof may'also be incorporated in other alterf nativestructural forms. Accordingly I reserve the privilege of resorting to such legitimate modications of the form, construction and relative arrangement of the various elements Vas may be fairly considered within the spirit and scope of theappended claims. l

5. A container comprising a sheet rmetal body plate bent to providebottom, side and end walls forming a main compartment, and a longitudinal extension integral with each of said end walls at the open side of said compartment forming a return bend to provide an end compartment externally of said main compartment, an ornamental sheet coveringthe walls of said end compartments and the bottom wall of said main compartment, and a common means securing the free end of each of said return bends and one end of said covering sheet to one of said end walls of the main compartment.
6. A container comprising .a'sheet metal body plate bent to provide bottom, side and end walls forming a main compartment, a separate end compartment exteriorly of said main compartment having a sheet metal body Wallconnected at one of its ends to one of the end walls of the main compartment, the other end of said wall of the end compartment extending upon the outer face of said endv wall of the main compart` ment, an ornamental sheet covering said wall of the end compartment and extending upon the inner face of said end Wall of the main compart-V ment, and a common means securing said end of the covering sheet and the latter end of the wall of the end compartment to the wall of the main compartment.
` '7. A container having a body formed from a sheet metal blank, having parts relativelyA bent tov provide bottom, side and end walls vforming a main compartment, one of the end walls havingY an outwardly extending lflange continuous along the edge thereof at the open side of said coni-f end edge thereof` confined in said channel, and Y means on the opposite end edge ofY said metal sheet for interlocking the same with the end wall of said main compartment.
8. A container comprising a body of sheet mapartment open at one side; and a laterally projecting Wall joined to one of said marginal Walls at the open side of said main compartment, bent to form a supplemental compartment externally of said main compartment andhaving its free end angularly bent and extended in parallel relation to said marginal Wall of the latter compartment and secured to the outer face thereof.
