Description

L. M. COOPER Aug. 6, 1935'.
GARMENT Filed Oct. 27, 1932 INVENTOR. 71 fif BY Patented Aug. 6, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE '15 Claim.
This invention relates to garments and is particularly directed to a nurses or maid's uniform and the like articles of apparel.
An object of this invention is to provide a garment of the character described which shall be extremely simple to don and doll and which shall be provided with slider actuated fastener means for closingthe garment.
A further object of this invention is to provide a neat and rugged garment of the character described, which shall be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, simple to construct, attractive in appearance and nevertheless practical and efficient to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawing, in which shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the garment with parts broken away;
Fig. 2 is a front perspective view of the upper portion of the garment with the collar folded back;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing the upper portion of the garment in another position;
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 1. I
Referring now in detail to the drawing, l0 designates a garment embodying the invention here shown for the purpose of illustration only, as a dress or uniform for nurses or maids. The garment comprises a body portion .ll provided with usual sleeves l2 and a belt l3 which may be buttoned at the'front. The body II is profolded broad hem i5 stitched in folded position to said body as by line of stitching l6. ,lhe body portion II is furthermore split down the front on one side of they middle of the garment to form a folded edge l1 anda folded edge l9. At the folded edge i! the garment is provided with a folded over portion 20 stitched as at 2|. -At said folded edge is the garment is provided .with a folded back portion 22 for the purpose hereinafter appearing.
vided at the bottom thereof with an inwardly Below the line of stitching 16 both the inwardly folded hem portion i 5 and the outer lower edge portion I5a of the garment are folded back to form folded portions 24 and 25 respectively, and folded edge portions I1 and 11a. The 5 folded edge portion l9 terminates above the line of stitching i6 and the vertical edges of the portions I5 and l5a are received between the folded portions 24 and 25 and are stitched thereto by means of a continuation of the vertical line of 10 stitching 2|.
Thus, in making the garment, the edge portions I1 and I9 are first folded and the hem portion I5 is thereafter folded inwardly and the lines of stitching I6 and 2! sewed. A hem ex- 15 tending entirely around the bottom of the dress is thus formed.
At the upper end thereof the garment is formed with a V-shaped neckline 30. The edge portion l9 terminates as at 3| below the neckline 30 to 20 form a downwardly and inwardly pointed tab 32 extending from the folded edge It! to substantially the apex of the V-shaped neckline. Attached to said neckline 30 and consequently to the tab 32 is a folded back collar 35. edge il extends however, to substantially the shoulder of the garment as at 36, thus forming an upwardly and outwardly pointed tab 31 having an edge 38 conformingto a portion of the neckline 30, and adapted to underlie the collar. 30 At the apex of the tab 31 there is a snap fastener portion 39 adapted to cooperate with a com:- plementary snap fastener portion 40 sewed adjacent the shoulder of the garment and also adjacent the neck line 30. The tab 32 may also 35 be attached to the tab 31 by means of asnap fastener 43 adapted to cooperate with a complementary snap fastener 44 disposed onthe inside of the tab 31 and adjacent the apex of the V-shaped neckline. Thus the tab 32 may 40 be attached to the garment on one side of the split and the tab 31 may be attached to the garment at the upper end of the split; and the collar 35 when folded back covers the tab 31 thus making for a very neat and attractive construc- 45 tion.
It will be noted that the tab 31 overlies the tab 32 when the garment is fastened in position for wearing. The snap fastener portions wand l6 and 43 and H are thus likewise hidden from 50 view. 1
For attaching together the split portions" of the garment, there is secured to the folded over portion 20 as shown in Fig. 4'of the drawing, a strip of tape 56 having slider actuated fastener The folded 25 I portions 5| thereon. The strip of tape 50 may be attached to the folded over portion 20 by means of the line of stitching 2i and by an additional line of stitching 52. A second strip of tape 54 may be attached to the folded over edge l9 by means of a line of stitching 56 and attached to said strip of tape 54 are slider actuated fastener portions 58 adapted to cooperate with the slider actuated fasteners BI and 0perated by means of the slider 58. The fasteners 5| and 56 extend to the point 3! at the Junction of the edge It and the tab 32. Said fasteners may furthermore terminate as at B0 somewhat above the line of stitching I6. Thus, to remove the garment, the wearer need merely lift one side of the collar to unfasten the fastener portions 39 and 40. The slider 58 may then be pulled downwardly and the fasteners 48 and M detached or pulled apart. The wearer may then readily step out of the garment.
It will be noted that the folded over portion 20 is in the form of a flap covering the slider actuated fasteners, thus protecting the same and providing a neat and attractive construction.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use,
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in. a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:-
