Description

July 30, 1935. WILLIAMS 2,009,537
EARDROP HOLDER Filed July 26, 1954 irraz/va Patented July 30, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in ear drop holders or supports and the main object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, neat and conviently worn device by which ear drops may besupported beneath the car without the troublesome and often painful ear piercing or ear screws now so commonly used.
Another object is to provide a device of this kind made up of a length of wire of any suitable metal or material bent to provide an open C- shaped hook adapted to fit snugly over the ear at its junction with the head and to be concealed by the ear, the lowermost end of the wire being then coiled up into a fiat spiral lying fiat behind the ear lobe and between any of the convolutions of which the ear drop may be hooked and suspended.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention resides in the novel arrangement hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side view with an ear drop in place.
Figure 2 is a front edge view.
Figure 3 is a view showing my ear drop holder as applied to the ear.
Referring now with more particularity to the drawing the reference character I designates an open somewhat C-shaped hook or hanger of such shape and size as to fit'over and behind the ear at its junction with the head, this hook being made of a light wire of any suitable material which may be bent to fit ears of varying sizes.
The upper end 2 of the hook I is upset and rounded off to form a smooth round knob to prevent irritation to the head or ear. The lower end of the hook I is bent first forwardly at 3 and then is coiled up into a flat spiral 4 which will lie in the hollow immediately behind the lobe of the ear and will be concealed thereby as shown, the bend 3 thus disposing the spiral 4 without causing the lower. portion of the hook to too tightly engage the ear. lIhe ear drop A which may be of any desired ornamental shape and material is provided with a fiat hook 5 which may be hooked through and between any of the convolutions of the spiral 4.
When so mounted the device supports the ear drop A entirely free of any connection to the ear lobe and obviates either the piercing of the ear or the troublesome and painful ear screws.
While I have herein set forth a certain preferred embodiment of my invention; it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor structural details, so as best to construct a practical device for the purpose intended, not departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
In a device of the kind described, an open 6- shaped hook adapted to fit over the human ear at its junction with the head, the said hook hav-. ing a rounded hook at its upper end and a short forwardly bent portion at its lower end, and a flat spiral coil formed at the end of said forwardly bent portion and adapted to lie concealed behind the ear lobe whereby to support an ear drop from the ear.
MARY E. WILLIAMS.
