The extension 3| terminates in an angular portion 36 which is adapted to engage the extension 32 and which constitutes a stop'to limit the movement of the outer extremity of the extension 3! toward the extension 32, thereby making the gripping action of the circular portion 30 more effective.
' The friction member 23 is constructed of flexible material as, for example, rubber, or a material having the characteristics of rubber and is provided with a bevelled surface; 31 which is adapted to underlie. the filling carrier l2 which is located in transferring position and yield ingly engages the filling thereon ina manner to prevent said carrier from rotating in the hopper II. The friction member 29 will furthermore act as an aid in' supporting the carrier I2 with which it contacts. It is desirable that the' material of which the friction member 29 is constructed shall be sufiiciently flexible so that it will engage the'filling upon the filling carrier with a gentle yielding action to the end that said member willeffectively grip the filling material and thereby prevent the carrier fromi rotating without injuring the filling.
The friction member 29' is adjustably mounted upon the resilient arm 25 to ;move toward and away from the filling carrier I2 with which it is adapted to contact in order that it may be correctly positioned with respect to said filling carrier; The friction member 29 is positioned filling replenishing loom comprising, in combina upon the arm 35 by means of a guide 38 which is constructed as an inverted U-shaped member, the'parallel arms 39 of which engage the opposite edges of the arm 35, see Fig. 4, and the friction member 29 is clamped'between the guide member 38 and the arm 35 by means of a, bolt and its nut 4|, said bolt passing through a slot "42 provided therefor in the friction member 29, seeFig. 5; I

In the operation of the loomas the hopper H :is rotatedto successively position thefilling carriers l2'into transferring position, the surface .ofthe; filling, of the carrier next to be transferred will engage "the bevelled surface 31 of the friction member 29" causing the lower portionof the resilient arm 35 upon which the friction member'29 is mounted 'toyield slightly towill prevent the carrier from the rotating and at the same time not injure the filling during the interval that the carrier is located in transferring position, and at the time that the carrier is transferred to the shuttle. When the transfer is made the friction device 23 will rock in unison with the top holder 22 as the latter releases the carrier, and said friction device will act to support and guide the carrier during its transfer from the hopper to the shuttle.
In Fig. 6 I have illustrated a modified embodiment of my invention in which 43 comprises a holder constructed as a band of sheet 'material having a circular clamping portion 44 embodied therein which is adapted to encircle and grip a sleeve 24. 45 and 4 6 of the circular portion 44 are adapted to be sprung toward each other by means of a bolt 33 and thumb nut 34 in causing the circular portion 44 to grip the sleeve 24, and a resilient supporting arm 48 for a friction member 29 is formed integral with the extension 46. The resilient arm 48 is bent outwardly from the extension 46 and then extends downwardly and beneath the circular clamping portion 44 and terminates in an end portion 49 to whichthe friction member 29 is secured. The extension 45 terminates in an angular portion 41 which is adapted to engage the extension 46 and constitutes a stop to limit'the movement of the outer extremity of the extension 45 toward the exten sion 46,thereby making the gripping action of device illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, except that there maybe slightly more flexibility-to the resilient arm 48 than there is to the resilient arm 35. 3 r

A friction device for the filling carriers of a fillingreplenishing loom comprising, in combination, a support, a holder comprising a band surrounding said support and having a circular clamping portion provided with relatively parallel extensions and a resilient arm embodied therein, means to clamp said circular portion to the support, a flexible friction member mounted upon said arm and adapted to yieldingly engage the filling on a filling carrier next to be transferred from a hopper for a reserve supply of filling car- ".riers to a shuttle located therebeneath and prevent said carrier from" rotating in said hopper, and means to clamp said friction member to the arm.

In a filling replenishing loom the combination of a rotary hopper for filling carriers, 9. transfer-rer stud, an arm fast to said stud, a sleeve pivotally mounted upon said arm, a holder fast to said sleeve and having a resilient arm embodied therein, and a friction member mounted upon said resilient arm and adapted to engage the filling on a filling carrier next to be transferred from said hopper to a shuttle located therebeneath and prevent said carrier from rotating in the hopper.
6. In a filling replenishing loom the combination of a rotary hopper for filling carriers, a transferrer stud, an arm fast to said stud, a sleeve pivotally mounted upon said arm, a holder comprising a band adjustably clamped to said sleeve and having a resilient arm embodied therein, and
a flexible friction member adjustably mounted upon said resilient arm and adapted to engage the filling on a filling carrier next to be transferred from said hopper to a shuttle located therebeneath and prevent said carrier from rotating in the hopper.
