Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of an adjustable defense baton or arnis stick. Weights may be added or subtracted and located in various positions along the length and/or diameter of the baton.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Description of the Related Art

There is prior art in the area of the present invention. In particular, U.S. Pat. No. 4,682,774 describes a collapsible, re-combinative martial arts weapon. And, U.S. Pat. No. 4,132,408 describes a defense baton that can be disconnected and reconnected such that it can be changed back and forth between a defense baton and nunchaku. In the prior art, there is no use of altering the weight for adjusting rotational velocity or strike force to the desire of the user.

SUMMARY

An object of the present invention is to add or subtract weight to a defense baton. The weight may be added/subtracted to a fixed length baton or added/subtracted to a baton thus inherently changing the length of the baton.
Another object of the invention is to adjust the rotational speed and/or mass of the baton for enhanced force and/or control. By moving the weight toward the center or outer length, the rotational force is altered to the need of the user. If a faster speed is desired, weight is added or located toward the hand position of the baton. If a larger striking force is desired, weight is added or located toward the outer striking end of the baton.
Yet another object of the invention is for the use of exercise and rehabilitation. The user may vary the weight so as to increase or decrees the intensity of training. This will allow the person to become stronger and quicker at a stepped pace. In addition, the user may have a need for some type of extremity or joint rehabilitation and can adjust the weight accordingly for such use.
In addition, different weapon ends may be added to the baton or bo staff such as a sai, kama or any type of tip or end. And, by connecting two or three sticks together via chain or rope, one could create an adjustably weighted nunchaku or three section staff.
The details of one or more embodiments of the invention are set forth in the accompanying drawings and in the description below. Other features, objects, and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the description and drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

An adjustable defense baton is illustrated generally in FIG. 1. The baton 1 comprises four tubes 2 threaded together to create the full length of the baton.
In the present invention, three of the four tubes 2 enclose weights 4 that are positionally located by springs 5. The free length of the springs 5 are designed to secure one or more weights 4 per individual tube 2. The tubes 2 are held together by threaded locations 3.
It should be understood that the present invention is not limited to any number of lengths, weights, or the position and or lengths of such. The invention is completely combinable to any number and size of lengths, weights, and positions of the aforementioned.

Other Embodiments

In the present invention, weights are added/removed from a hollow tube. However, an alternate embodiment could be the use of combining short weighted lengths of differing weighted lengths to form any number of weight, position and baton length characteristics.
An additional embodiment could be the addition of weights on the outer diameter of the baton at various positions along any given length baton.
If enough length is added, the baton can be used as a Bo Staff. There are numerous ways to add weight and/or length to various positions along the length of a baton in order to alter the rotational speed and/or striking force. In addition, there are also enhanced training and rehabilitation benefits of such a device.
While preferred embodiments have been shown and described, it will be understood that they are not intended to limit the disclosure, but rather they are intended to cover all modifications and alternate embodiments falling within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Claims

1. A baton comprising weights that may be added or removed from any location of said baton.

2. The baton of claim 1 in which the rotational velocity may be changed by the addition or removal of said weights.

3. The baton of claim 1 in which the striking force may be changed by the addition or removal of said weights.

4. A baton comprising discreet sections that may be added or removed from any position along the length of said baton.

5. The baton of claim 4 in which the rotational velocity may be changed by the addition or removal of said sections.

6. The baton of claim 4 in which the strike force may be changed by the addition or removal of said sections.

7. The baton of claim 2 in which enough length is added to comprise a bo staff.

8. The baton of claim 3 in which enough length is added to comprise a bo staff.

9. The baton of claim 5 in which enough length is added to comprise a bo staff.

10. The baton of claim 6 in which enough length is added to comprise a bo staff.
