Definitions

  • the object of the present invention relates to a specially adapted cap for use in bottles containing nutritious liquids such as edible oils, the contribution of which is that of being comprised of two parts, body and pouring spout, developed and designed based on the criteria of minimizing cap size as much as possible, with the consequent advantages of lower weight, savings of raw material, transport and others.
  • the cap has been conceived and developed so that both its incorporation or connection to the bottle, the neck of which has also been reduced in height, and the unsealing and consequent opening of the cap, is easy and requires minimum effort.
  • Bottle caps comprised of a cap body divided into two halves, one forming a tilting seal and the other a peripheral flap, such as those found in Spanish utility model ES-U-9103392, and, in Spanish patent ES-2.137.076, in addition to European patent EP-685.406, are well known in the start of the art. Both bodies are joined together by a tearable ring forming a safety seal which upon opening the bottle must be removed, whereupon the bottle cap is released for aperture thereof.
  • All of these caps are characterized in having a great length that connects to the bottle neck, which conditions the shape of the bottle. Additionally, their capacity to seal or retain the liquid inside the bottle, when closed, may not correspond to that required in this type of products for human consumption, thereby causing loss of liquid when the bottles are not stored under adequate conditions.
  • the present invention aims to solve the aforementioned problems in the state of the art, by means of a simplified sealing cap with only two constituent parts, but which does not lack any of the properties inherent to this type of products, along the lines of obtaining a cap having reduced height thanks to a pouring spout with a U-shaped configuration, comprised of very short lateral branches and a flat base with ventilation windows or holes for outflowing liquid, while offering effective fluid-tightness and means to guarantee its inviolability, such as vertical insertions that weaken certain points of the cap flap, which are configured to break in case of improper manipulation of said cap.
  • the cap has reduced height because it comprises a pouring spout configured to be attached to a bottle neck, by means of circumferential projections disposed on both the bottle neck and the pouring spout, thereby allowing the height of the joint between the neck and pouring spout to be reduced.
  • the cap proposed by the invention has reduced height because it does not include a tearing strip, as opposed to other caps belonging to the state of the art, but rather includes a provisional joint comprised of weakening points between the cap and cap flap.
  • This invention relates to a cap especially applicable to oil bottles, one of its most important characteristics being that the cap body and pouring spout have been minimized, thereby reducing their weight and constituent material, which results in a lower neck height of the plastic bottle to which it is destined.
  • the cap of the invention is comprised of two single parts, one forming the cap body that defines the contour and external shape of the cap and another, internal part that defines the pouring spout body.
  • the main cap body is comprised of two bodies that are joined together, the upper body acting as the bottle sealing cap that is placed over the pouring spout body, and a lower body or ring that is attached to the bottle neck.
  • a cylindrical rib having a circumferential rim on its outer side for fixing and fluid-tight sealing of the pouring spout, emerges from the interior of the sealing cap, which is bowl-shaped.
  • the cap body has a peripheral flap or brim along a section of its lateral surface which acts as a pressure element for opening the cap.
  • the cap can be easily and quickly opened by applying pressure on said flap or brim with a finger or hand.
  • Diametrically opposed to this flap or brim is the traditional hinge incorporated to this seal, made of the same constituent material as the cap.
  • the other body that comprises the cap assembly is the fixing ring attached to the bottle neck, which is joined to the tilting cap body by means of the previously described hinge and by sealing points that join the cap and ring together in different alternating parts, which are broken when the sealing cap is tilted backwards.
  • This sealing ring has a peripheral rib in its interior that fixes the cap body to the bottle neck.
  • the second body consists of the pouring spout, comprised of a cylindrical body at the bottom of which a series of radial slots are disposed, through which the liquid flows outwards from the interior of the bottle.
  • a curved rib At the centre and emerging from the outer area of the pouring spout is a curved rib that defines an annular space in which the end of bottle neck is introduced, both elements being attached by the incorporation of the opposed circumferential ribs, which retain the pouring spout body against the bottle neck.
  • the end of the pouring spout body ends in a curved rim that defines the outflow of liquid thereof. This curved rim fits into an annular cavity disposed inside the cap.
  • the pouring spout body has a flat central part that replaces the central cone common to this type of products, thereby producing a significant reduction in cap height and constituent material, on simplifying the construction of the cap and pouring spout body in an extraordinary manner.
  • FIG. 1 represents a perspective view of the central cap body of the invention.
  • FIG. 2 represents a lower perspective view of the pouring spout body.
  • FIG. 3 represents a sectional view of the cap and bottle neck assembly.
  • FIG. 1 represents a perspective view of the central cap body of the invention, which consists of the sealing cap ( 2 ) and fixing ring ( 3 ) attached to the bottle neck.
  • the sealing cap ( 2 ) has a peripheral flap or brim ( 5 ) disposed along a lateral area thereof which is pressured with a finger or hand to open said cap, to which a traditional hinge ( 6 ) made of the same plastic material as the cap body and which facilitates the opening and closing of said cap body is disposed diametrically opposite. Sealing points ( 7 ) made of the same plastic material as the cap are disposed along the joint area between the cap and fixing ring which shall break when opening the cap for the first time, indicating the aperture of said cap.
  • a series of weakenings ( 8 ) disposed in the plastic material for the purpose of indicating manipulation of the cap have been included in the fixing ring attached circumferentially to the bottle neck, which shall break when an attempt is made to extract the cap body, also indicating manipulation of the cap and possibly of the bottle contents.
  • FIG. 2 represents the pouring spout body ( 4 ) and, although a sectional view thereof can be observed more clearly in FIG. 3 , said figure shows the flat bottom ( 9 ) of the pouring spout, highlighting the flat central area ( 10 ) of said pouring spout as opposed to the classical reinforcement cone found in this type of pouring spouts and the radial windows ( 11 ) through which the bottle contents flow outwards. Although these windows have been represented with an elongated trapezoid or almost triangular shape, they can adopt any capricious shape.
  • FIG. 3 represents a sectional view of the cap of the invention, showing all of the previously described elements, due to which these are not newly mentioned, highlighting the fact that the pouring spout cap has an outer circumferential rib that defines an annular area ( 13 ) ending in a rib ( 14 ) which, together with the bottle neck ( 17 ) rib, retains the pouring spout body.
  • the end of the pouring spout ( 15 ) has a curved and diverging shape to allow optimum product outflow and to ensure the tight fit of the cap body, which has a rib ( 16 ) that fits tightly and hermetically over the pouring spout body.
