Abstract

A hair comb is provided with pin-recieving loops. A selected pin-mounted brooch is secured to the comb with a pin extending through the loops of the hair comb and secured by the brooch clasp.

Description

  • This invention relates to hair decoration and more particularly to hair jewelry.
  • Brooches comprise ornaments typically held by a pin or clasp and worn at or near the neck of a user, including also on a lapel, or as a clothing clasp or the like.
  • This invention contemplates the unique concept of utilizing brooches as hair decorations, or in other words, the use of brooches in the hair for decoration and grooming.
  • Brooches typically are mounted with a pivoting pin, pivoted to the brooch and moveable away from the brooch for securing to an article of clothing, then toward the brooch so the free pin end can be captured by a clasp. The pin is typically pivoted directly to the brooch or the brooch is mounted on a bar-like member to which the pin is mounted. Neither mount is useful to efficiently mount such a brooch in the hair of a user, as the brooch too readily slips on the hair captured momentarily between brooch and pin.
  • Accordingly, it is desired to provide for a brooch which can easily be mounted on the hair of a user.
  • Moreover, it is recognized that users may have a plurality of brooches, and would like to be able to use a plurality of them in the hair. Accordingly, it is desirable to provide for securely and efficiently mounting a variety of brooches, or other pin-mounted ornaments, in the hair of a user.
  • To these ends, and in a preferred embodiment of the invention, a hair comb is provided with pin-receiving loops. A selected pin-mounted brooch is secured to the comb with the pin extending through the loops of the hair comb and secured by the brooch clasp. The comb, with the brooch thereon is then mounted in the hair of a user for decorative and grooming purposes.
  • The hair comb can be metal, with metallic loops, secured thereto by soldering, by fasteners, by adhesives or by any other suitable securing technology. Preferably, the loops are sufficiently aligned for receipt of the brooch pin. The hair comb can also be made of plastic or any other suitable materials, with the loops of any suitable material secured thereto in any suitable way. Loops according to the invention can also be formed with the combs, of whatever material, integrally when the comb is manufactured or applied thereto later by any suitable process.
  • Such loops as described above are oriented such as to receive the typical pins of brooches of other or pin-mounted ornaments, whether the pins are directly mounted to the brooch or to a pin bar carrying the brooch. While two loops are preferred, one, two or more loops can be applied to the comb for a variety of brooch sizes, applications and positions.
  • Moreover, the loops can be of any suitable form or configuration, for example, circular or other preferably closed loop shapes and sizes, sleeves, clasps, wire loops, comb apertures or other pin-receiving passages or the like.
  • These and other details and embodiments will be readily appreciated from the following written description of a preferred embodiment of the invention and from the following photographs of one embodiment of the invention of which:
  • FIG. 1 is a photographic view of one embodiment of the invention showing a hair comb modified according to the invention and a pin bar of a type typically used with a brooch, with the pin open and with the brooch removed for clarity;
  • FIG. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 but showing the pin closed; and
  • FIG. 3 is a rear photographic view of the apparatus of FIGS. 1 and 2 but showing a decorative brooch mounted by a pin onto a comb such as in FIGS. 1 and 2.
  • Turning now to the invention, FIG. 1 illustrates photographically a hair comb 10 and a pin bar 12, wherein the pin bar 12 is similar to pin bars typically used to mount a brooch (not shown in FIG. 1). The pin bar 12 includes a bar 13 and a pin 14 pivoted at end 15 to bar 13. The distal end 16 of pin 14 is free and is typically sharpened. A clasp 17 of any suitable configuration is mounted on the pin bar 13 for securing the free end 16 of pin 14 when the pin 14 is received therein. Clasp 17 can be of any traditional clasp design as is well-known.
  • Hair comb 10 includes a plurality of hair engaging teeth 20. In one embodiment, the teeth 20 are formed of wire, twisted onto a comb spine 21 as shown. According to the invention, two wire loops 22, 23 are soldered to the spine 21.
  • FIG. 1 shows pin 14 open from bar 13 and extending through only one loop 22.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates the pin 14 in clasped position on bar 13. Here pin 14 extends through both loops 22, 23 and is closed or captured by clasp 17. In this position, the pin bar 12 can secure any brooch or other decorative jewelry thereon, including when mounted in the hair.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates a brooch 30 mounted to a comb 31 by way of a pin 32 whether or not the pin 32 is part of the pin bar 12, or is pivoted directed to brooch 30.
  • Comb 31 may be similar to comb 10 of FIG. 1 and pin 32 an individual pin or part of a pin bar such as pin bar 12.
  • In use, a brooch 30 is so attached to or mounted on a comb 31 and the comb is then set into the hair of a user for decoration, to facilitate grooming or both.
