Abstract
An inline paddle fishing boat from which two people can fish from either side or from the same side of the boat while using their feet to move the boat in the water, and which is easily transported on land. These advantages are achieved by an inline seating arrangement, and by a wheel-type rudder.
Description
- The present invention relates to boats. More particularly, the invention relates to fishing boats.
- At present, fishing boats are not constructed so that two occupants can fish from the same side of the boat, and so that both can fish while propelling the boat through the water. The present invention provides a fishing boat having this capability, as well as the additional advantage of being easily transportable on land.
- In general, the present invention in a first aspect provides an inline paddle fishing boat, comprising:
- a boat having a bow, a stern, a midsection between the bow and the stern, and a longitudinal axis;
- a first paddle wheel at the bow of the boat, for propelling the boat;
- a first set of pedals at the bow of the boat, for rotating the first paddle wheel;
- a first seat at the midsection of the boat, for a first person to be seated while using the first set of pedals to rotate the first paddle wheel;
- a second paddle wheel at the midsection of the boat, for propelling the boat;
- a second set of pedals at the midsection of the boat, for rotating the second paddle wheel; and
- a second seat at the stern of the boat, for a second person to be seated while using the second set of pedals to rotate the second paddle wheel, the first and second seats being disposed one behind the other along the longitudinal axis of the boat.
- In a second aspect, the invention provides a boat that is easily transportable on land. The boat comprises (a) a hull; (b) steering means for transportation on water, said means comprising a rudder which includes a wheel; and (c) a locking pin for confining the wheel of the rudder to a single plane, for transportation on land.
- In a third aspect the invention provides a device for steering a boat on water and for transporting the boat on land. The device comprises (a) a rudder which includes a wheel, for steering the boat on water and for transporting the boat on land; (b) a tiller, for turning the rudder while the boat is on water, by connecting the tiller to the rudder, for positioning; and (c) a locking pin, for confining the wheel of the rudder to a single plane, for transporting the boat on land.
- In a fourth aspect the invention provides an inline paddle fishing boat comprising
- a boat having a longitudinal axis;
- a paddle wheel for propelling the boat;
- a set of pedals for rotating the paddle wheel;
- a first seat for a first person to be seated while using the set of pedals to rotate the paddle wheel; and
- a second seat for a second person to be seated, the second seat being disposed behind the first seat along the longitudinal axis of the boat.
- In a fifth aspect the invention provides an inline paddle fishing boat comprising
- a boat having a longitudinal axis;
- a first seat for a first person to be seated;
- a paddle wheel for propelling the boat;
- a set of pedals for rotating the paddle wheel; and
- a second seat for a second person to be seated while using the set of pedals to rotate the paddle wheel, the second seat being disposed behind the first seat along the longitudinal axis of the boat.
-
FIG. 1 is a plan view of an inline paddle fishing boat, made in accordance with the principles of the present invention. -
FIG. 2 is a side elevation of the boat shown inFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the boat shown inFIG. 1 , taken along the cutting line 3-3. -
FIG. 4 is a front view of the boat shown inFIG. 1 . - More specifically, reference is made to
FIGS. 1-4 , in which is shown an inline paddle fishing boat, made in accordance with the principles of the present invention, and generally designated by thenumeral 2. - The inline
paddle fishing boat 2 has a hull 4, abow 5 a, astern 5 b, amidsection 5 c, and first and 5 c and 5 d. The inlinesecond sides paddle fishing boat 2 is propelled through the water by a first 6 a or by a second 6 b paddle wheel, or by first and second paddle wheels 6 a and 6 b. First andsecond seats 8 a and 8 b having adjustable backs are disposed at themidsection 5 c and at thestern 5 b along thelongitudinal axis 10 of the inlinepaddle fishing boat 2. Disposing the first andsecond seats 8 a and 8 b one behind the other along thelongitudinal axis 10 of the inlinepaddle fishing boat 2 provides capability for first and second persons (not shown) occupying the first andsecond seats 8 a and 8 b to use their hands to fish on either 5 c or 5 d, or on theside 5 c or 5 d, of the inlinesame side paddle fishing boat 2 while using their feet to operate first and second sets of pedals 7 a and 7 b to rotate the first and second paddle wheels 6 a and 6 b to propel the inlinepaddle fishing boat 2 through the water (not shown). - To store the fish as they are caught, first and
12 a and 12 b are provided. Thesecond storage compartments first storage compartment 12 a is disposed between the first paddle wheel 6 a and thefirst seat 8 a. Thesecond storage compartment 12 b is disposed between the second paddle wheel 6 b and the second seat 8 b. This positioning provides maximum accessibility to the occupants of the first andsecond seats 8 a and 8 b. Clearly, the 12 a and 12 b can be used to store other items such as life jackets and other paraphernalia.storage cabinets - For easy maneuverability, a
tiller 14 equipped with a handle 14 a disposed at thebow 5 a of the inlinepaddle fishing boat 2 and a wheel-type rudder 16 at the stern thereof are connected to one another by a cable 18, for positioning. By using the tiller handle 14 a the occupant of thefirst seat 8 a can easily operate thetiller 14 to steer the inlinepaddle fishing boat 2 with the wheel-type rudder 16, which is provided with a locking pin 16 a used for transporting the inlinepaddle fishing boat 2 on land, by confining thewheel 16 b ofrudder 16 to a single plane so that theboat 2 can be safely and easily rolled on thewheel 16 b of therudder 16, either manually or by a power tug. For this purpose thewheel 16 b of therudder 16 is beneficially locked in a plane which includes thelongitudinal axis 10 of the inlinepaddle fishing boat 2. - While certain specific embodiments and details have been described to illustrate the present invention, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that many modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the basic concept of the invention.
