Abstract

A stand for aiding in the transfer of drywall sheets from a delivery vehicle through the entranceway of a building or house. The stand has four individually adjustable legs. A platform is positioned at the top of the stand for providing support for the drywall sheets. A pad is removably disposed on the upper face of the platform. The pad provides a surface having a low coefficient of friction so that drywall sheets may easily slide thereover.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention generally relates to supports. More specifically, the present invention is drawn to an adjustable stand, which stand has a surface providing sliding support for drywall sheets.
  • 2. Description of the Related Art
  • During the construction of building and/or, housing structures and the like, it is often necessary to transfer quantities of drywall sheets from a delivery vehicle to the inside of the partially completed structure shell. In many instances, the arrangement of the entranceway to the structure shell prevents the delivery vehicle from getting close enough for a direct deposit of the drywall sheets from the vehicle through the entranceway. The drywall sheets must therefore be manually transferred. An inexpensive, easy-to-use device that would facilitate such manual transfer would certainly be a welcome addition to the art.
  • There are many devices in the related art that function to support and/or provide a transfer adjunct for drywall sheets. Examples of such related art are cited and identified in the accompanying IDS. However, none of the cited inventions and patents, taken either singly or in combination, is seen to disclose an adjustable stand for supporting drywall sheets as will be subsequently described and claimed in the instant invention.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is a stand for aiding in the transfer of drywall sheets from a delivery vehicle through the entrance-way of a building or house. The stand has four individually adjustable legs. A platform is positioned at the top of the stand for providing support for the drywall sheets. A pad is removably disposed on the upper face of the platform. The pad provides a surface having a low coefficient of friction so that drywall sheets may easily slide thereover. The stand is fabricated from light-weight durable material.
  • The instant invention provides for improved elements and arrangements thereof for the purposes described which are inexpensive, dependable and fully effective in accomplishing their intended purposes.
  • A clear understanding of the present invention will become readily apparent upon further review of the following specification and drawings.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is an environmental, perspective view of an adjustable stand for supporting drywall sheets according to the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 is an exploded, perspective view of an adjustable stand for supporting drywall sheets according to the present invention.
  • Similar reference characters denote corresponding features consistently throughout the attached drawings.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Attention is directed to FIGS. 1 and 2 wherein the adjustable stand of the present invention is generally indicated at 10. The stand 10 comprises four hollow leg members 12 each having an upper end and a lower end. The upper ends of hollow leg members 12 are attached to the undersurface 14 a of a platform 14. A respective foot member 16 is telescopically received in each leg member 12. Aligned apertures 12 a are disposed in each leg member 12 for receiving a locking pin 18 therethrough. At least two vertically spaced holes 16 a are disposed through each foot member whereby each foot member can be adjustably positioned in each respective leg member.
  • A U-shaped pad 20 is removably positioned on the upper surface the upper surface 14 b of, platform 14. Pad 20 is fabricated from a material having a coefficient of friction that is lower than the coefficient of friction of upper surface 14 b. Preferably leg members 12, foot members 16 and platform 14 are fabricated from aluminum. Pad 20 is fabricated from plastic. It should be recognized however, that any suitable, durable, lightweight material could be employed.
  • In use, drywall sheets D are removed from a transporting vehicle (not shown) and positioned on the stand 10 and indirect contact with pad 20. The low friction coefficient of the pad permits the drywall sheets to easily slide into the desired entranceway (not shown). Telescoping foot members 16 allow the stand to be adjusted to comply with non-planar support surfaces i.e. steps.
  • It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described above, but encompasses any and all embodiments within the scope of the following claims.

Claims (17)

1. An adjustable stand comprising:
a platform, said platform having a planar upper surface and a planar under surface;
a plurality of hollow leg members, each hollow leg member having an upper end and a lower end, wherein each said upper end is attached to the under surface of said platform;
a respective foot member telescopically disposed in each of said hollow leg members; and
a pad member removably attached to said upper planar surface of said platform.
2. The adjustable stand according to claim 1, wherein each foot member extends from the lower end of a respective leg member.
3. The adjustable stand according to claim 1, wherein said pad member has a U-shaped configuration.
4. The adjustable stand according to claim 1, including aligned apertures formed in each leg member.
5. The adjustable stand according to claim 1, including at least two vertically spaced holes formed through each foot member.
6. An adjustable stand comprising:
a platform, said platform having a planar upper surface and a planar under surface, said planar upper surface having a first coefficient of friction;
a plurality of hollow leg members, each hollow leg member having an upper end and a lower end, wherein each said upper end is attached to the under surface of said platform;
a respective foot member telescopically disposed in each of said hollow leg members; and
a pad member removably attached to said upper planar surface of said platform, wherein said pad member has a second coefficient of friction lower than said first coefficient of friction.
7. The adjustable stand according to claim 6, wherein each foot member extends from the lower end of a respective leg member.
8. The adjustable stand according to claim 6, wherein said pad member has a U-shaped configuration.
9. The adjustable stand according to claim 6, including aligned apertures formed in each leg member.
10. The adjustable stand according to claim 9, including at least two vertically spaced holes formed through each foot member.
11. The adjustable stand according to claim 10, including a respective pin for each leg member, each pin constructed for insertion through said aligned apertures in a respective leg member and one of said holes in a respective foot member.
12. The adjustable stand according to claim 11, wherein there are four leg members and four foot members.
13. An adjustable stand comprising:
a platform, said platform having a planar upper surface and a planar under surface, said planar upper surface having a first coefficient of friction;
a plurality of hollow leg members, each hollow leg member having an upper end and a lower end, wherein each said upper end is attached to the under surface of said platform;
a respective foot member telescopically disposed in each of said hollow leg members, each respective foot member extending from the lower end of a respective leg member; and
a U-shaped pad member removably attached to said upper planar surface of said platform, wherein said U-shaped pad member has a second coefficient of friction lower than said first coefficient of friction.
14. The adjustable stand according to claim 13, including aligned apertures formed in each leg member.
15. The adjustable stand according to claim 14, including at least two vertically spaced holes formed through each foot member.
16. The adjustable stand according to claim 15, including a respective pin for each leg member, each pin constructed for insertion through said aligned apertures in a respective leg member and one of said holes in a respective foot member.
17. The adjustable stand according to claim 16, wherein there are four leg members and four foot members.
