Abstract
This invention provides a means to secure the garbage receptacle lid to the container and have the ability to secure the lid over the garbage receptacle even in the event that the refuse is higher than the upper edge of the opening of the container. It allows for quick detachment when the garbage containers are emptied manually or by automated refuse trucks.
Description
- Substitute for application Ser. No. 10/417,500
- This invention was designed to easily secure lid containers from residential to commercial applications. This invention generally relates to garbage cans and, more particularly, to garbage can that have removable lids.
- Existing garbage cans take a wide variety of forms, but typically include a cylindrical, rectangular, or conical shaped forms with an attached bottom panel that forms a hollow reservoir on the inside to serve as the receptacle for debris and refuse. The container has an inlet/outlet at or near its upper end for receiving debris and refuse. For safety and health reasons, a lid fits tightly over the opening of the container at the top. This lid is removed to add refuse or remove refuse from the container. Sometimes during this process the lid misplaced or lost.
- Conventional garbage cans typically are non-expandable and any excess amount of refuse in the garbage container protrudes from the upper opening, making the lid unable to fit onto the container or hold the refuse inside the container. The refuse may spill out, animals can get easy access to the refuse, and precipitation can get into the container making it difficult to maneuver to the water weight introduced to the refuse within the container. The unsecurable lid creates various forms of unwanted nuisances. There are existing garbage containers with attached lids by means of a hinge system. However, this hinge system is not flexible and cannot be secured in a fixed position to hold in refuse or prevent precipitation from entering the container when not fully closed.
- A means of securing a lid to a garbage can that can be secured in any position will improve health and safety, as well as minimizing the cost to users by greatly reducing the number of lost and damaged lids to trash receptacles.
- The invention can be attached to any size trash lid container to secure the contents from blowing wind. It allows for quick detachment when the garbage containers are emptied manually or by automated refuse trucks. In light of need for a secured garbage can lid, objects of this invention are to provide a means to secure the garbage receptacle lid to the container and have the ability to secure the lid over the garbage receptacle even in the event that the refuse is higher than the upper edge of the opening of the container.
- This invention accomplishes the objectives of preventing lid loss due to negligence, wind, accident, etc. and allows the lid to serve as a top cover to prevent excessive amount of precipitation to enter the garbage receptacle even when the refuse exceeds the confines of the container.
- The above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention should become even more readily apparent to those skilled in the art upon a reading of the following detailed description in conjunction with the drawings wherein there is shown and described illustrative embodiments of the invention.
- This invention is described by appended claims in relation to description of a preferred embodiment with reference to the following drawings which are described briefly as follows:
FIG. 1 is a side view of a garbage receptacle with a lid and the securing device; -
FIG. 1A is an exploded side view of attachment of the hook system adhered to the side of the garbage receptacle and the loop system adhered to the strap. -
FIG. 2 is a front view of a garbage receptacle depicting the positioning of the securing device; -
FIG. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of a the securing device. - A new and useful garbage receptacle lid securing device having been described, all such modifications, adaptations, substitutions of equivalents, mathematical possibilities of combinations of parts, pluralities of parts, applications and forms thereof as described by the following claims are included in this invention.
- As shown in
FIG. 2 , one end of the strap (10) is adhered to approximately the center of the garbage receptacle lid (6). As shown inFIGS. 1 and 3 , the other end of said strap (10) has a loop system (21) of a predetermined length adhered to said strap (10). A hook system (22) is adhered to the front side of the garbage receptacle (5). The strap (10) with the loop system (21) attached can then be secured with the hook system (22), as shown inFIG. 1A .
Claims (3)
1. A combination garbage receptacle and an adjustably secured lid, wherein said garbage receptacle comprises a rigid container with sidewalls and a bottom plate surrounding an interior space, and having an open upper end that is large enough to receive a predetermined size of refuse, and at least one hook-type fastener adhered to at least one location on an outer surface of said sidewalls;
wherein said adjustably secured lid comprises a rigid top piece with a circumference and a shape to allow for a minimal overlapping of said open upper end of said garbage receptacle, and at least one flexible strap adhered to said rigid top piece, wherein said flexible strap has a loop-type fastener affixed to said strap at a predetermined position to allow said loop-type fastener to connect to said hook-type fastener.
2. The combination garbage receptacle and an adjustably secured lid of claim 1 , wherein said hook-type fasteners are positioned diametrically opposite one another, and said flexible straps are positioned opposite one another but correspondingly to the positioning of said hook-type fastener.
3. A combination garbage receptacle and an adjustably secured lid, wherein said garbage receptacle comprises a rigid container with sidewalls and a bottom plate surrounding an interior space, and having an open upper end that is large enough to receive a predetermined size of refuse, and at least one hook-type fastener adhered to at least one location on an outer surface of said sidewalls, and at least one hook-type fastener adhered to at least one location on said adjustably secured lid;
wherein said adjustably secured lid comprises a rigid top piece with a circumference and a shape to allow for a minimal overlapping of said open upper end of said garbage receptacle, and at least one hook-type fastener adhered to said rigid top piece, wherein said flexible strap has a loop-type fastener affixed to said strap at a predetermined position to allow said loop-type fastener to connect to said hook-type fastener.
