Application November 26, wild, Serim No. 754,694
This invention relates to means 2 Claims.
for preserving the crease in trousers and other garments and has for its object to provide means which indefinitely hold the crease in garments in their a natural form.
it. further object of this invention is to so incorporate the holg means in the garments that it will hold the crease without adecting the pliability or any other quality oi the fabric.
These and other objects and attendant advantages of this invention will become more readily apparent from the detailed description thereof which follows, reference being had to the accompag drawing in which Fl 1 is a front elevation of a pair of trousers. a
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of a creased portion of the trousers illustrating the applied thereto.
1: a w. 11-1 in which the crease holding means is Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the creased portion of the trousers, the section being taken on the line tar-ix of i v In the several figures of the drawing like reference numerals indicate like parts.
The subject matter of our present invention comprises means whereby any tension on the fabric of garments can be entirely eliminated from any creased portion thereof in order to preserve the crease ironed into the fabric for an indete period.
This is accomplished by the use of a tape l which has a marginal portion on each side sewed to the inside of the garment behind the crease 2 formed therein. These marginal thus flatly secured to the inside of portions are the garment It from pulling out. as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 the tape l are suitably sewedto the the edges of inside of the iabric so that the stitching is not visible on the outside of the garment. Furthermore only 'such stitching is preferably used as will provide a nonrigid seam that will not impair the pliability of the fabric or at least very little so that the presence of the tape 9 will not be noticeable on the outside of the garment.
The tape 9 1 1m be of desired fabric which (on. a rial will provide a non-rigid brace so that it can adapt itself to any angular position of the crease within the limits to which it is held thereby. It is also desirable although not absolutely necessary to locate the brace behind the crease a distance that a will keep the tape from completely filling the inside thereof when the garment or a portion of it is completely collapsed along the crease in order that the crease can be sharply ironed into the fabric and the brace cannot hold the extreme 10 point of the crease expanded and make it appear as a rounded ridge instead of a pointed crease.
The tape is made up of a non-yielding or substantially non-yielding fabric to provide a brace between the sides or the inside of the crease so it that the crease cannot be pulled out by lateral tension, as. above described, as well as keep the fabric from stretching along the line of the crease and thus prevent a distortion of the crease by the longitudinal stretching of it. The action of the so knee of a person wearing trousers provided with our crease holding means will therefore have no effect on the crease as the same is kept from stretching in any direction.
While moisture applied to the fabric may affect the crease to a small extent, the fact that the crease is held and cannot be stretched when moist will keep it in such condition that it can be quickly and easily ironed back by anyone into its original form.
We claim:
1. A garment provided with a crease maintained indefinitely by a strip of flemble material having a substantial edge portion of each side thereof overlapping the garment fabric along the inside of said crease and secured thereto by suit-' able stitching so as to lie flatly thereagainst whereby the intermediate portion of said strip is spaced from and serves to limit expansion of said crease and the edge portions of said strip serve as 40 permanent hinge connections between said intermediate portion and the garment fabric.
2. A garment provided with a crease maintained indefinitely by a strip of flexible material having a substantial edgeportion of each side I
