Abstract

An invention to protect the teflon coating on skillets from being damaged while the skillets are stacked in storage. This measure prolongs the life and usage of the teflon coating on the skillets. This invention consists of five plastic film sheets of the same dimensions, positioned evenly on top of one another and heat fused together on three sides. The fusion converts the five plastic sheets into four separate pockets in which the skillets are inserted for protection. Another advantage of this invention is when the skillets are stored in an open area, as on a counter top, the pockets will aid in shielding the skillets from dust and other airborne contaminants.

Description

    BACKGROUND
  • Field of Invention
  • This invention relates to the protection of the teflon coating on skillets from being damaged during storage.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • This invention consists of five sheets of polyethylene film that is heat fused together on three sides to form pockets that will allow the insertion of teflon coated skillets into these pockets. The film layers protect the teflon coating from being damaged during storage.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING
  • The drawing depicts a top view of the invention laying on a flat surface. There are a total of five plastic sheets used in this invention. The drawing shows only the top plastic sheet. (1) The three shaded sides show where the five plastic sheets are heat fused together. (2) The wavy side on the bottom of the drawing represents an opening where the skillet is inserted. (3) The phantom lines represent a skillet Inserted into and between the top two plastic sheets.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The purpose of this invention is to protect the teflon coating on skillets from being scratched or nicked while the skillets are being stored. Skillets can safely be Inserted and stacked on top of one another in this device, thereby conserving cupboard or counter top space.
  • This invention consists of five each polyethylene film sheets measuring 16 inches in width by 15 inches in depth and 3 mil in thickness. The five sheets are positioned evenly on top of one another and heat fused together on three sides. The width of the fusion would be ¼ of an inch. The fusion of the plastic sheets creates four separate pocket openings into which the skillets are inserted. The fusion also eliminates the film pockets from buckling and shifting whenever the skillets are inserted or removed.
  • This invention can accommodate six skillets of various sizes up to 12 inches in diameter. (The six skillet capacity involves one each skillet in between each of the five plastic sheets, one each skillet on the bottom of the stack, and one each skillet on the top of the stack.)
  • The concept for this invention came to realization in mid November of 2003, The final working prototype of this invention has been thoroughly tested and used successfully. Any size skillet can easily be inserted or removed in any order or given pocket of this invention, but the smaller skillets on top of the larger skillets arrangement is recommended for compactness.
  • This invention can be expanded to accommodate even more skillets with the addition of more plastic film sheets to the device. Non teflon coated skillets can also be stored in this invention, and also mixed in with the teflon coated skillets. This invention can also be used for other purposes such as protecting delicate patterns and designs on plates while they are being stored.
  • Polypropylene film, or a copolymerization of propylene and ethylene may also be desirable for use in the composition of this invention, to insure in it a greater longevity.

Claims (1)

1. A device for protecting the teflon coating on skillets, consisting of:
(a) five polyethylene film sheets of the same dimensions, positioned evenly on top of one another, and heat fused together on three sides, whereby
(b) heat fusion of the plastic film creates four separate pockets into which skillets are inserted for protection during storage, and
(c) eliminates the plastic film pockets from buckling and shifting when skillets are either inserted or removed.
