Abstract
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates in general to a color wheel and in particular to a color filter assembly thereof providing improved balance and stability of rotation.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- Referring to
FIG. 1 , the conventional color wheel comprises acarrier 11, acolor filter 12 and amotor 2. Thecolor filter 12 is fixed to thecarrier 11 byadhesive 13, wherein thecarrier 11 is fixed to the shaft 22 at the center of themotor 2 with thecover 21. Themotor 2 rotates thecarrier 11 and the color filter 12 around central axis 10 via the shaft 22. - As mentioned, the
color filter 12 is fixed to thecarrier 11 byadhesive 13, however, the mass ofadhesive 13 is difficult to control due to the flow property thereof such that the color wheel is unbalanced. Moreover, rotational instability and vibration may occur due to unbalanced mass distribution of the color wheel. Furthermore, thecolor filter 12 comprises a plurality of fan-shaped filter segments adhered to each other, hence, precise positioning thereof is difficult and the segments may be separated during rotation at high speed. - Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a color wheel and color filter assembly thereof for improving balance and stability of rotation. The color filter assembly rotates around a central axis and comprises a first carrier, a second carrier, a protrusion and a color filter. The first carrier has a first contact surface and a first joining portion protruding therefrom. The second carrier has a second contact surface and a second joining portion connected to the first joining portion. The protrusion is disposed on the first or second contact surface. The color filter has an opening with the protrusion inserted therein such that the color filter is fixed between the first and second carriers.
- The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given hereinbelow and the accompanying drawings, given by way of illustration only and thus not intended to be limitative of the present invention.

FIG. 5 is a perspective diagram of the second carrier based onFIG. 4 in accordance with the present invention. -
FIGS. 6 and 7 are perspective diagrams of the third embodiment in accordance with the present invention. -
FIGS. 8 and 9 are perspective diagrams of the fourth embodiment in accordance with the present invention. - Referring to
FIG. 2 , the color wheel has amotor 4 and a color filter assembly including afirst carrier 31, asecond carrier 41 and acolor filter 32 comprising four 32 a, 32 b, 32 c and 32 d symmetrical to thefilter segments central axis 30, wherein the 32 a, 32 b, 32 c and 32 d form anfilter segments opening 320 at the center of thecolor filter 32. - As shown in
FIG. 2 , thefirst carrier 31 has a first joiningportion 310 and a plurality ofprotrusions 312 projecting from thefirst contact surface 314, and each filter segment has anopening 321 corresponding to theprotrusions 312. Thesecond carrier 41 has a second joiningportion 410 forming adepression 411 for receiving thefirst joining portion 310 along thecentral axis 30, wherein the first and second joining 310, 410 are threaded and joined thereby. Theportions color filter 32 is firmly secured between the first and 31, 41 by seating thesecond carriers protrusions 312 in thecorresponding openings 321 of the 32 a, 32 b, 32 c, 32 d and connecting the second joiningfilter segments portion 410 to thefirst joining portion 310. - Referring to
FIG. 3 , the first joiningportion 310 is disposed at the center of thefirst carrier 31 and projects from thefirst contact surface 314. Theprotrusions 312 are parallel and disposed around the first joiningportion 310 and inserted into thecorresponding openings 321 of the 32 a, 32 b, 32 c and 32 d such that thefilter segments color filter 32 is fixed to thefirst carriers 31 for preventing separation during rotation. Furthermore, eachprotrusion 312 is enclosed by aflexible material 313 deformed when joining theopening 321 to firmly secure thecolor filter 32 on thefirst carrier 31. - Referring to
FIG. 4 , thecolor filter 32 comprises four 32 a, 32 b, 32 c and 32 d symmetrical to thefilter segments central axis 30 of the color wheel. As mentioned, the 32 a, 32 b, 32 c and 32 d form anfilter segments opening 320 at the center of thecolor filter 32. Thesecond carrier 41 has a plurality ofprotrusions 312 projecting from thesecond contact surface 414, and each filter segment has anopening 321 corresponding to theprotrusions 312. Moreover, thesecond carrier 41 has a second joiningportion 410 forming adepression 411 for receiving the first joiningportion 310 along thecentral axis 30. The first and second joining 310, 410 are threaded and joined thereby. Theportions color filter 32 is thereby precisely positioned and firmly secured between the first and 31, 41 by seating thesecond carriers protrusions 312 through thecorresponding openings 321 of the 32 a, 32 b, 32 c, 32 d and joining the second joiningfilter segments portions 410 to the first joiningportions 310. - As shown in
FIG. 5 , the second joiningportion 410 is at the center of thesecond carrier 41 and depressed from thesecond contact surface 414. A plurality ofprotrusions 312 project from thesecond contact surface 414 and are inserted into thecorresponding openings 321 of the 32 a, 32 b, 32 c such that thefilter segments color filter 32 is fixed thereto for preventing separation during rotation. Furthermore, eachprotrusion 312 is enclosed by aflexible material 313 deformed when joining theopening 321 to firmly secure thecolor filter 32 on thesecond carrier 41. - Referring to
FIG. 6 , the color wheel has amotor 4 and a color filter assembly including afirst carrier 31, asecond carrier 41, a securingmember 50 and acolor filter 32 comprising four 32 a, 32 b, 32 c and 32 d symmetrically surrounding thefilter segments central axis 30 and forming anopening 320 at the center of thecolor filter 32. InFIGS. 6 and 7 , thefirst carrier 31 has a plurality offirst holes 70, and thesecond carrier 41 has a plurality of correspondingsecond holes 60. The securingmember 50 comprises a plurality ofrods 51 and abuttingmembers 52 connected thereto. As shown inFIG. 7 , therods 51 pass through thesecond holes 60, theopenings 321 and thefirst holes 70 with theabutting members 52 secured at both ends, and thecolor filter 32 is thereby firmly fixed between the first and 31, 41. Particularly, thesecond carriers abutting members 52 are threaded on the surface of thehole 53, and therods 51 are also threaded corresponding thereto for secure connection. - Referring to
FIG. 8 , the color wheel has amotor 4 and a color filter assembly including afirst carrier 31, asecond carrier 41, a securingmember 50 and acolor filter 32 comprising four 32 a, 32 b, 32 c and 32 d symmetrically surrounding thefilter segments central axis 30 and forming anopening 320 at the center of thecolor filter 32. InFIGS. 8 and 9 , thefirst carrier 31 has a plurality offirst holes 70, and thesecond carrier 41 has a plurality of correspondingsecond holes 60. The securingmember 50 comprises a plurality of threadedrods 51 with integrally formed abuttingmembers 52. As shown inFIG. 9 , therods 51 pass through thesecond holes 60, theopenings 321, and are inserted into thefirst holes 70 and sequentially tightened. Thecolor filter 32 is thereby firmly secured between the first and 31, 41.second carriers - As shown in
FIG. 8 , the color wheel of the present invention further provides acircuit board 5 connected to themotor 4 for supplying driving power. Themotor 4 rotates thefirst carrier 31, thesecond carrier 41 and thecolor filter 32 around thecentral axis 30. - In summary, the present invention provides a color wheel utilized for an optical device such as a DLP projector. The
color filter 32 can be fixed to thefirst carrier 31 by inserting theprotrusions 312 into theopenings 321 according toFIG. 2 . Furthermore, the first and second joining 310, 410 are connected such that theportions color filter 32 is further firmly secured between the first and 31, 41 thus preventing separation during rotation. As shown insecond carriers FIG. 6 , theaforementioned protrusions 312 can be represented by therods 51 and theabutting members 52. Therods 51 are sequentially inserted through thesecond holes 60, theopenings 321 and thefirst holes 70 such that thecolor filter 32 is firmly secured between the first and 31, 41. The present invention has simple structure capable of improving balance and stability of rotation.second carriers - While the invention has been described by way of example and in terms of the preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments. To the contrary, it is intended to cover various modifications and similar arrangements (as would be apparent to those skilled in the art). Therefore, the scope of the appended claims should be accorded the broadest interpretation to encompass all such modifications and similar arrangements.
