Abstract

A “non-slip” covered positioner for maintaining patient positioning by nurses or other healthcare personnel. This is a positioner covered in a non-slip material on the bed contact side, (and a patient friendly material at the patient side), to utilize the “non-slip” characteristic to keep the positioner from sliding out of position which defeats the medical purpose of using the device. This “non-slip” covered positioner is able to be cleaned and re-used.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • In the healthcare field there are some patients who are at risk for skin break down which often leads to “bed-sores,” also know as “pressure ulcers” or “decubitus ulcers”. For these patients, nursing guidelines state that patients should be “turned” every two hours to help prevent these ulcers. It is important to note that the patient needs to stay as positioned by the nurse. In many cases, patients do not stay in the desired position and ultimately develop ulcers. Nurses often use different positioning aids to assist them in keeping the patient in the desired position. The problem with current devices is that if uncovered, the devices becomes soiled and have to be discarded; and, if covered, the devices do not stay in place because there is not enough friction between the covering material and the bed sheet to keep the device in position. [0001]
  • Accordingly, it is an important object of the present invention to provide an appropriate “non-slip” covered positioner that will stay where placed by healthcare personnel, maintaining a desired positioning of the patient. Another object of the invention is to provide a “non-slip” covered positioner that can be cleaned and re-used rather than becoming soiled and discarded. [0002]
  • OBJECT
  • It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an appropriate “non-slip” covered positioner that will stay where placed by healthcare personnel, maintaining a desired positioning of the patient. Another important object of the invention is to provide a “non-slip” covered positioner that can be cleaned and re-used. [0003]
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • A “non-slip” covered positioner that will maintain a patient's positioning as desired by the healthcare personnel placing the positioner. The “non-slip” covered positioner has non-slip material on the bed contact side, (and patient friendly material at the patient contact side), to utilize the non-slip characteristic to keep the positioner from sliding out of position. The “non-slip” covered positioner is able to be cleaned and re-used. [0004]
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF PRODUCT AND DRAWINGS
  • The [0005] drawing 10, illustrates a “non-slip” positioner that has “non-slip” material on the bed contact side and patient friendly material on the patient contact side. While this utilization could be used on any shape of positioner (such as triangular, rounded, square, trapezoidal, or rectangular) and the positioner could be made of any internal material such as, but not excluded to foam, cotton, Styrofoam, feathers, cotton wadding or taffeta, the illustration shown here is of a triangular shaped positioner (see FIG. 1) covered in a non-slip material on all sides (see FIG. 1A, FIG. 3A, and FIG. 4A) except for the patient contact side (see FIG. 1B and FIG. 2B). In this presentation, the “non-slip” material is of vinyl (but could be of any other non-slip material) and the patient contact material is rip-stop nylon (but could be of any appropriate patient contact material) joined by sewing (could be any other means of joining). In this presentation, all sides (except for one, the patient contact side) of the positioner are covered in “non-slip” material, however, only the bed contact side could be covered in the “non-slip” material, with the rest covered in patient friendly material.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT AND DRAWING BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is an isometric view of the positioner. [0006]
  • FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the positioner. [0007]
  • FIG. 3 is a side elevation of FIG. 1 [0008]
  • FIG. 4 is a rear elevation. [0009]

Claims (3)

What is claimed is:

4. A therapeutic positioning device that is a “non-slip” covered positioner for maintaining patient positioning desired by nurses or other healthcare personnel for preventing or assisting in the healing of ulcers and other skin breakdown due to a debilitated patient's inability to position himself/herself properly, said positioner being covered by non-slip material on the bed contact side and patient friendly material on the patient contact side.
5. A washable and re-usable therapeutic positioning device that is a “non-slip” covered positioner for maintaining patient positioning desired by nurses or other healthcare personnel for preventing or assisting in the healing of ulcers and other skin breakdown due to a debilitated patients inability to position himself/herself properly, said positioner being covered by non-slip material on the bed contact side and patient friendly material on the patient contact side.
