Description

May 28, 1935- A. GALANTE DISPENSING CABINET Filed Dec. 5, 1934 Patented May 28, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT osmos- 4Claims.
This invention relates to dispensing cabinets and has for an object to provide a cabinet particularly suitable for holding a roll of sheet material such as waxed paper and facilitating the 5 removal from the cabinet of any desired length oi! such material at one time, and the severing of such length from the remainder of the roll.
A further object is to provide a cabinet such that the roll is protected from access of dust or contaminating substances, so that the material is maintained in strictly sanitary condition until used.
A still further object is to provide such a cabinet of pleasing and somewhat ornamental appearance which may be secured to awall or other suitable support in a kitchen or pantry in convenient position.
Further objects and advantageous constructions will appear from a more complete description of an embodiment of this invention shown in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet in partly open position.
Figure 2 is a detail section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail section on line 3-4 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a detail section on line 4-4 of Figure 1, but showing the cabinet closed.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4, but showing the cabinet open.
Referring to the drawing, the device comprises a casing having a pair of circular end members I joined around a portion of their peripheries by a side wall member 2. Each of the end members I is provided with a peripheral portion 3 substantially U-shaped in cross section and having its outer margin formed into a rounded head 4. The open sides of these U-shaped portions of the two end members I face each other so that the ends of the side wall member 2 may be extended thereinto and secured by any suitable means such as spot welding, soldering, brazing, or the like.
The side edges of the wall member 2 terminate spaced apart as shown best in Figure 4, the upper edge being turned upwardly as at 5 and folded over against itself as at 6 to form an upstanding rib with a rounded exposed edge as at I, which acts both as a stiffener for the cabinet, and also as a stop for the cover member. This cover member I is formed as a curved piece having its ends as at II extended into and slidable within the U-shaped portions 3 and it is of suillcient width so that it may entirely bridge the opening between the side edges of the side wall member 2.
The lower edge of the side wall member 2 is extended outwardly as at I2 to form a flange or shelf and its margin is then upwardly turned to present an edge member I3 to sheet material I4 unwound from a supply roll I5. The portions I2 and I 3 provide a stiffening angle member extending substantially the length of .the cabinet. This supply roll is positioned within the casing, being inserted between the upper and lower side edges of the member 2 when the cover I0 is open. This cover III has its lower edge portion outwardly extended in a flange as at 20 and then downturned as at 2I to form a clamping portion which may engage the-upper face of the material I4 and press it against the extension I2 inwardly of the edge member I3. The portions 20 and 2| act as a stiffening angle member which tends to hold the edge of the cover against distortion so that it will properly cooperate with the portions I2 and I3 of the casing side wall member, even though the cover is of relatively thin, light sheet material. The cover member I 0 is provided with a suitable handle member 22 which may be secured to the portion 20 as by spot weldingor the like, and this handle not only facilitates the opening of the cover member III in sliding it upwardly and rearwardly, but italso permits the clamping member 2| to be held in clamping engagement with the material I4 so that by grasping the extended portion I 4 or. the sheet material which is to be dispensed, this material may be torn oiI along the upper edge of the portion I3. The cabinet may be secured to a wall or other suitable support, and for this purpose it is shown as provided at each end with a bracket member 25. Each bracket member may be provided with an outwardly extending foot 26 to receive fastening means such as screws 2'! to secure it to a wall or other support, and it is provided with a concaved forward face as 28 (see Figure 3) which may be engaged about the outer face of the rib portion 3 and be secured thereto or to the bead l, or both, as by spot welding or the like. The portions and 6 along the edge of the side wall member 2 may be provided with a notch 30 at each end engaging over the bead 4. The portion I2 may be formed similarly and the cover extension 20 may also be provided with notch openings at each end through which the bead 4 is slidable as the cover is moved.
The provision of the U-shaped marginal portion 3 of the end members I produces an ornamental inwardly dished efiect to these ends which adds to the appearance of the cabinet, which may be enameled or otherwise finished to harmonize with the finish oi the wall or other member on which it is supported.
From the foregoing description of an embodiment or this invention, itLshould be evident to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications might be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention as defined-by the appended claims; I
I claim: 1. A device 01 the class described comprising clamp the material. against said side portion I flange back from its edge to facilitate such tear- 2. A device of the class described, comprising a tubular casing having an open side portion through which a roll of sheet material may be inserted thereinto, and having a stiil'ening member along one edge of said side portion presenting'an edge over which an unwound portion of said material extending outwardly of said casing may be, engaged and torn oil by exerting pull on saidportion, a cover slidably guided in said casing between open and closed positions relative to said open side portion, said cover having a stiflening member along its edge provided with a portion tor clamping said material against said side portion stiffening member inwardly of its edge when said cover is closed to hold back the material in said casing during such pulling, and means for securing said casing to a support.
3. A device or the class described, comprising a casing having a pair oi! spaced end members provided with circular peripheral portions U,- shaped in cross section with their open sides oppositely disposed and having marginal peripheral beads, a curved side wall having its ends secured aooaou within said U-shaped portions and having its side edges spaced apart to form an opening through which a roll or sheet material may be inserted within said casing, the lower of said side edges being extended outwardly and its margin turned upwardly, a curved cover member having its ends slidablewithin said U-shaped portions and movable to and from a position closing said opening, the-lower edge or said cover being extended downwardly and outwardly to press said sheet material against the outwardly extending portion 01 said side wall back of its upwardly extending margin, said outwardly extended cover edge having an opening at each end through which said beads extend, a handle secured to said cover, and means for supporting said casing.
4. A device of the class described, comprising a casing having a pair of spaced end members provided with circular peripheral portions U- shaped in cross section with their open sides oppositely disposed and having marginal peripheral beads, a curved side wall having its ends secured within said U-shaped portions and having its side edges spaced apart to form an opening through which a roll of sheet material may be inserted within said casing, the lower of said side edges beeing extended outwardly and its margin turned upwardly, the upper or said side
