UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
4 CHARLES W. LYFORD, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCARFS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,210, dated February 12, 1878; application filed January 26, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. LYFORD,
-of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State rately attached to the shield, so that when one of the covers becomes worn it may be removed, so as to expose the unused one.
The object of the invention is to render the scarf more durable, by providing a ready means of renewing the portion that is subject to the greatest wear.
Referring to the drawing, A is the shield, to which the tabs B are attached in the usual way. The face of the shield is padded, and is provided with two covers, a I), of the same material, which are separately attached to the upper edge of the shield, so that when the outer one becomes worn it may be removed without injury to other portions of the scarf.
The shield-covering is liable to greater Wear than other portions of the scarf, and when the said covering becomes worn and soiled in scarfs as jordinarily made the scarf must be thrown aside.
By my improvement the scarf after wear may be rendered as good as new by removing the outer shield-covering.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 'A scarf whose shield is provided with two or more covers, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
CHARLES W. LYFORD. Witnesses:
