Abstract
A computer desk which comprises an upper shelf for receiving a computer monitor, a desktop shelf for receiving the keyboard, and means for converting the desk into a seat by rotating the desktop shelf assembly.
Description
- The present invention relates to desks in general, computer desks in particular and to combinations of such a desk and a seat.
- A computer desk is generally composed of a fixed desktop surface for receiving a display monitor, and a fixed or gliding shelf for receiving a computer keyboard.
- Computer desks for the home are more compact in size and are generally placed in the living room, the office or the bedroom.
- The home computer desk is a dedicated piece of furniture made specifically to host a computer system. In small rooms such as college dormitories, bedrooms, motor homes or hotel rooms, providing sufficient seating for everyone is sometimes very difficult.
- Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a means by which a computer desk can be converted to a bench and vice versa without having to add another peace of furniture.
- In accordance with the invention, there is provided a computer desk, which comprises an upper shelf for receiving a computer screen, a rotating desktop shelf for additional workspace or for receiving a keyboard, and means for moving the desktop shelf from its upward position to the floor level, exposing in the process a seating area.
- The invention will be more fully understood and further aims, features, details and advantages thereof will become more apparent from the following explanatory description, which refers to the accompanying diagrammatic figures, diagrammatic figures, provided solely by way of example, which illustrate certain embodiments of the invention.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a computer desk with an inner bench in the folded position.
- FIG. 2 is a cross-section view of a computer desk with the bench in the folded position.
- FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the bench in the unfolded position
- FIG. 4 is a cross-section view of the bench in the unfolded position.
- Referring to FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, a
computer monitor 20 or other devices, are placed on fixed shelf 1, whileshelf 2 is used as a desktop. Shelf 1 is supported by 3 and 4, whilelateral panels keyboard shelf 2 is supported by side members 5 a and 5 b andseat 11.Shelves 1 and 2 can be fixed or gliding. - FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 show the same desk as in FIG. 1, whereby
desktop shelf 2 has been rotated alonghorizontal axis 12 andpivot point 13, from its upward horizontal position to the floor level in one 90 degree angle swing.Desktop shelf 2 has now become a vertical baseboard for a bench made up ofseat 11 andbackrest 10. -
Pivot point 13 can include a locking and unlocking mechanism that holdsdesktop shelf 2 in the up position. The lowering ofdesktop shelf 2 can also be controlled by mechanical or hydraulic shock absorbing means such as a spring. -
Protrusion 14 is a spacer that allows the person to raisebaseboard 2 to the desktop level.
Claims (5)
1- A computer desk comprising an upper shelf for receiving part of a computer and an articulating shelf assembly for receiving the keyboard characterized in that the articulating shelf can rotate to the floor level and become the front baseboard for a seat.
2- A computer desk as claimed in claim 1 , whereby the seat and the articulating shelf are connected together and able to pivot along the same axis.
3- A computer desk as claimed in claim 1 , whereby the seat and the articulating shelf are at right angle of each other.
4- A desk and seat combination comprising an upper shelf for receiving a computer screen, an articulating desktop shelf, and means for converting the desk into a seat, in which said means for allowing the seat in the folded vertical position to rotate to a horizontal position when the articulating desktop shelf is lowered towards the floor.
5- A computer desk which comprises an upper shelf for receiving a computer monitor, a desktop shelf for receiving the keyboard, and means for converting the desk into a seat by manually rotating the desktop shelf assembly.
