Abstract

The present invention relates to a golf club head with a multiple dimpled face. The present invention provides golf club head having a neck 12 to which a club shaft is connected, a bottom sole 14, a top edge 16, and a face 18, wherein the face 18 is provided with a number of dimples 20 in the form of circle.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a golf club head with a multiple dimpled face, particularly to a golf club head of iron golf clubs or wood-type golf clubs having a improved face to enhance functions of golf clubs.

Generally, a golf club head of iron golf clubs or wood-type golf clubs provides with a number of at a face with which contacts the surface of golf balls to prevent golf balls from slipping during impact with golf balls, to stop golf balls on putting green without running, if a golf club is an iron golf club, and to achieve back-spin of golf balls.

However, for many of professional golfers and amateur golfers, although there is a somewhat difference in terms of technical ability between them, all that matters is a directional behavior and driving distance of balls struck by them. It is known that professional golfers have not any problems to control their driving distance of balls in the existing golf course, but all of them do not satisfy to control the directional behavior of balls and the running of balls on putting green.

Furthermore, many of amateur golfers do not satisfy to control the directional behavior of balls in the fairway. In the directional behavior of balls, it includes three behaviors, that is, a straight trajectory behavior from a stable swing and an ideal striking of sweet spot during impact with golf balls, a hook behavior from a premature winding of a closed club head due to an unstable setup of a golfer and from a sliding of golf balls during contact with a club face, and a slice behavior from an unstable setup of a golfer and from contacting golf balls with an open club face.

Known golf club head has disadvantage that a club face is provided with a number of horizontal grooves, so that, though the club face having the horizontal grooves prevent a golf balls from sliding upwardly and downwardly and provide a spin to golf balls during impact with golf balls, it is difficult to prevent the golf balls from sliding on right and left.

The golf balls will have good directional behavior when the golfer attends to his best conditions of swing, when the golf balls impact at the sweet spot of face, and when the target and the face are squared, otherwise the golf balls will have poor directional behavior. Particularly, when the target and the face are not squared, the golf balls slip on the face so that the golf balls will have poor directional behavior.

Further, it is difficult to effectively provide a spin to the golf balls by means of the club face having only horizontal grooves. To improve directional behaviors such as the hook or the slice, an attempt is proposed to permit the weight of the club head to be distributed for good directional behavior of golf balls. But as this attempt is little effective, the golf club to which this attempt is applied are not used widely. Further, in the case of the short iron(#7, #8 or # 9 iron) clubs or wedge(pitching or sand wedge) clubs, because of having small loft, they have effects for stopping golf balls at the dropping site without running and achieving back-spin of golf balls, but in the case of the middle or long iron clubs having large loft, the back-spin of golf balls is decreased, so that the golf balls may often miss to drop on the putting green.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

One object of the present invention is to overcome the above mentioned problems associated with the golf club head having horizontal grooves at the face.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a golf club head of iron golf clubs or wood-type golf clubs having a improved face to enhance functions of golf clubs.

And another object of the present invention is to provide a golf club head to allow a directional behavior of golf balls to be good. If one can obtain perfect technique in golf swing, one may play golf of high level with the golf club of the present invention.

According to the present invention, the present invention provides a golf club head having a neck to which a club shaft is connected, a bottom sole, a top edge, and a face, wherein the face is provided with a number of dimples in the form of circle.

Preferably, the rows of dimples are arranged diagonally in the face in reference to the bottom sole line, such that the dimples are staggered upwardly and downwardly and spaced at regular intervals. The face may be provided with a number of dimples, such that the row of dimples are arranged horizontally in reference to the bottom sole line. The dimples may be a form of a ellipse.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring to FIG. 1 and FIG. 3[0021] a, the illustrated golf club head 10, in the form of an iron golf club, has a neck 12 to which a club shaft(not shown) is connected, a bottom sole 14, a top edge 16, and a face 18. The face 18 is provided with a number of dimples 20 according to the present invention. The rows of dimples 20 are arranged diagonally in the face 18 in reference to the bottom sole line, such that the dimples are staggered upwardly and downwardly and spaced at regular intervals.
The [0022] golf club head 10 having the face 18 in which a number of dimples 20 are formed according to the present invention may effectively prevent a golf balls from sliding in every direction. Specially, the golf club head according to the present invention provides a reduction of sliding phenomenon between the face and golf balls, such that the face according to the present invention will prevent the golf balls from sliding at the dimples g when the edge of dimples of the face contacts the portion adjacent of dimples of golf balls.
The face formed with a number of dimples may provide a desired impact feel to golfer due to the reduction of sliding of golf balls during impact with golf balls and create a good directional behavior of golf balls. [0023]
And when the golf balls is struck by the face, the golf balls could be stayed at the face on comparatively long time due to the increasing of contact surface between the balls and the face, so that a directional behavior of golf balls is improved and, in the case of the middle or long iron, the spin effect of golf balls is increasingly improved. FIG. 3[0025] b shows the another embodiment of golf club head 10 according to the present invention, which is provided with a number of dimples 20 at the face 18 such that the row of dimples are arranged horizontally in reference to the bottom sole line.
The embodiment of the present invention shows a superior spin effect of golf balls than that of former embodiment, but shows the experimental results of reduction of the directional behavior. [0026]

The inventor has obtained the experimental results of difference between the iron club of the present invention and the existing iron club in term of the directional behavior of golf balls and the spin effect. Also, The inventor has obtained the experimental results that the golf balls struck by the existing iron club got out of a line extending on the target by about 20 yards when the golf balls dropped after flight of about 150 yards. But the golf balls struck by the iron club of the present invention got out of a line extending on the target no less than about 10 yards in hook or slice. [0029]
Furthermore, The inventor has obtained the experimental results that the golf balls struck by the iron club of the present invention stopped on putting green without a conspicuous running, if a golf club is an iron golf club. But the golf balls struck by the existing iron club have run remarkable distance from the dropping site. [0030]

Claims

What is claimed is:

1. Golf club head having a neck 12 to which a club shaft is connected, a bottom sole 14, a top edge 16, and a face 18, wherein the face 18 is provided with a number of dimples 20 in the form of circle.

2. Golf club head according to claim 1, wherein the rows of dimples 20 are arranged diagonally in the face 18 in reference to the bottom sole line, such that the dimples are staggered upwardly and downwardly and spaced at regular intervals.

3. Golf club head according to claim 1, wherein the face 18 is provided with a number of dimples 20, such that the row of dimples are arranged horizontally in reference to the bottom sole line.

4. Golf club head according to claim 1, wherein dimples 20′ are a form of ellipse.
