The shuttle feeler operates to prevent filling replenishment when it detects that the shuttle is not fully entered into the shuttle box. It is also common practice to provide the shuttle feeler with thread parting and clamping means, including parting and clamping blades pivoted on the shuttle feeler, for parting the outgoing filling end between the shuttle and the selvage, and clamping the part thereof which extends to the cloth selvage. Such blades are usually provided with a depending'heel adapted to be struck by the lay for closing I the blades. I
Difiiculty has been experienced in properly tim ing the operation of the prior parting and clamping devices of the type just described. More specifically, if the devices are operated too early in the loom cycle they willpart the filling thread on every call for replenishment, even though the shuttle may be improperly boxed and the call accordingly revoked. On the other hand, if the devices operate late the outgoing end may be broken by the replenishing operation and thus removed from the field of action of the parter before the latter has operated. Thus, the timing I of the closing of the parting and clamping blades must be quite accurate. Prior to the present invention there was no way in which such timing could be accurately adjusted.
Accordingly, it is the principal object of the present invention to provide in a device of the class described, thread parting and clamping members which are pivoted on a shuttle feeler, a lay-engaging plate on the members, and means for accurately adjusting the plate to thereby vary the timing of the closing of the parting and clamping members.
Other objects will become apparent as the description proceeds.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention the adjustable plate is mounted on a depending heel on the parting and clamping blades, the plate being mounted in the plane of the blades so that the edge of the plate is struck by the lay for closing the blades. The plate is mounted for adjustment along a line which extends at an "acute angle to the direction of movement-10f.

All of the parts of the shuttle feeler mechanism, and all of the parting and clamping device thus far described, are old and well known in the art.
