Abstract

The Style-N-Sleeve is designed to alleviate the saturation of clothing by potentially harmful pathogens such as lice, ringworms, scabies, hair particles, dandruff, etc. It is also designed to keep these pathogens out of direct contact with the skin of the stylists. In doing so, the sleeve is constructed of a light thin breathable material that is either worn over clothing or the bare arm. The texture of this material is semi-water repellant and very smooth allowing hair particles and these pathogens to easily slide off. Without the clothing being saturated with these pathogens, the invention assists in the improvement of the overall hygiene of the stylists and the sanitation of the profession.

Description

    BACKGROUND DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a protective garment, even more specifically, the present invention relates to a sleeve for preventing contamination of the skin and clothing of barbers and cosmetologist from potentially harmful pathogenic particles that may come from the hair and/or scalp of individual clients. [0001]
  • Although the nature of this contamination originates in the salon or barber shop, it is not limited to the place of employment. Often times, stylists transport these parasitic pathogens as they perform their normal duties throughout the working day. These pathogens are transported to beauty supply stores, restaurants and even to the homes of individual stylists. Once these pathogens are transported to the home, the clothing and living areas may become infected. [0002]
  • Examples of a number of these pathogens range from: ringworms; lice; scabies, dandruff, hair particles, and blood to name a few. There is a need for this invention in terms of sanitation for the working environment of barbers and stylists. This endeavor is a highly effective device designed to eliminate the contamination of the skin and clothing of stylists, as well as their food, homes and families. The clients are protected by a protective cape and neck strips, while barbers and stylists are protected by smocks, aprons and vests. However, these protective garments currently used by barbers and stylists offer minimal protection as they only cover the main body of the stylist. Vest and aprons are sleeveless, while smocks, male/female are typically short-sleeved, three quarter-sleeved respectively, leaving the portion below the elbow exposed, therefore venerable to direct contact with these pathogens. [0003]
  • The prior art related to the invention are various types of sleeves and sleeve-like items, which are designed for a wide range of different purposes. Patents representative of the prior art include, U.S. Pat. No. D299,562; U.S. Pat. No. 3,911,497; U.S. Pat. No. 4,229,833; U.S. Pat. No. 4,700,407; U.S. Pat. No. 4,771,518; U.S. Pat. No. 4,985,934; U.S. Pat. No. 5,187,813; U.S. Pat. No. 5,542,121; U.S. Pat. No. 5,682,616; U.S. Pat. No. 5,734,992; and U.S. Pat. No. 5,761,746. Even though the prior art shows a large number of sleeve and sleeve-like items designed for different uses, none of them specifically deal with the prevention of parasitic pathogens, in particular dealing with the barber and cosmetic art professions, respectively.[0004]
  • The invention is a tubular concave sleeve, narrower at one end than the other, to conform better to typical forearm contours. This invention is constructed of a smooth-textured, semi-water repellant fabric surface designed to resist being saturated by parasitic pathogen. This material will allow pathogens and hair particles to slide off, not cling and/or become intertwined into the clothing. The devise also serves the purpose of keeping pathogens and hair particles out of direct contact with the skin of the barber or stylists. [0005]
  • When desired, elastic, Velcro, zipper, buttons, and/or draw string variations of this invention will be designed, separately or in various combinations for securing the sleeves to the arm at the wrist and just above the elbow snugly. This invention will be available in an assortment of colors as well, to compliment smocks and capes. The devise may be easily worn over shirt sleeves, sweater and even over the bare arm. For more understanding of the above invention, reference should be made to the following drawings. [0006]
  • DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1. Is a representative view of the Style-N-Sleeve as completed sketch. [0007]
  • FIG. 2. Is a representative view of the Style-N-Sleeve as pertaining to components for constructing invention. To begin with, the top elastic is 1½ inch in width, and will be attached to the top portion of the material. The bottom portion of elastic is 1 inch in width, and will be attached to bottom portion of material. Both elastic strips are to be attached at seam from end to end to form a tubular shape conforming to wrist at top and just beyond elbow at bottom to snugly attach sleeve to user's arm. [0008]
  • FIG. 3. Is a representative view of the Style-N-Sleeve according to the invention as applied over a user's arms. [0009]
  • FIG. 4. Is a representative view of the Style-N-Sleeve according to the invention designed using a button. [0010]
  • FIG. 5. Is a representative view of the Style-N-Sleeve according to the invention designed using a elastic. [0011]
  • FIG. 6. Is a representative view of the Style-N-Sleeve according to the invention designed using a elastic top with drawstring at bottom. [0012]
  • FIG. 7. Is a representative view of the Style-N-Sleeve according to the invention designed using Velcro. [0013]
  • FIG. 8. Is a representative view of the Style-N-Sleeve according to the invention designed using zipper. [0014]
  • It should be understood that specific forms of the invention herein illustrated and described are intended to be representative only, as certain changes may be made therein without departing from the clear teachings of the disclosure. Accordingly, reference should be made to the following appended claims in determining the full scope of the invention:[0015]
