Description

UNITED STATES i i M t h aoeaarr HOBBYHORSE I ErnestLaHitaSedalia,Mo. AlmlicationADrilZ O,1936, SerialNo. 75,449 2' Claims. (01. 272-52) hoises'for 1 a invention relates to? hobby r r children to ride andhas for the primary object theprovision of a deviceof this characterwhichwillhave asmooth rccking-motioneasily rocked movable jaw to the mouth and a movably mounted taiLboth easily operated by the child when in ,lthe act of riding the device, thereby providing a @device which will be attractive to children and up one capableoffafiording maximum amusement and exercise for the child using the device. Withthese and other objects in view, this hinventionl consists in certain novel features of frconstruction, combination and arrangement of 1 15 Parts to be hereinafter more fullydescribed and f claimed. r
,For a complete understanding ofmy invention,
reference is to be had to the following i and accompanying drawing, inwhich Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in, section, illustrating a hobby horseconstructed in accorde ance with my invention.
description Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line j v z-2 of Figure 1. p r 25 Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral I indicates a vertically arranged supporting post post, Aleaf spring ,1 has one end anchored to 1 ,theeiipper end of the post and slides freely bee tween members 8 secured to the body 3 so that "of thespring I;
i 3 spring being tensioned acts to restore the body to a horizontal position, as shown in Figure 1.
f The head I of the horse has a pivoted jaw 9 to i i which the ends of a rein I0 are secured. The 45 rein passes rearwardly at opposite sides of the necl; to be grasped by the child sitting on the e body 3 of the horse. A spring ll of the coil type a has one end secured to the head I and the other end to the pivoted jaw 9 for the purpose of urg- 50 ingthe jaw in one direction, while the rein being q pulled urges ,the jaw in an opposite direction against the spring or into an open position. This arrangement of the jaw and rein attached there- ,5 by the child sitting thereon, and which has a ywhen thebody of the horse isrocked either fore jwardly or rearwardly it willbe against the action, As the bodyrea'ches a tilted 40position either forwardly or rearwardly, the
to gives the horse when being ridden by a child s f the appearance of opening and closing the mouth, thereby affording amusement to the child.
, Opposite sides of thebody a are providedwith slots [2 through which stirrup straps l3 extend for the purpose of entering the chamber 5 and are connectedto walls thereof by coilsprings ll. Stirrup straps at their lower ends carry stirrups l5. Thus it will be seen that the stirrups are yieldably connected to the body. The rump portion ii of the body 3 has a recess I! in which islocated a ball l8 journaled to the 1 body 3 by apin IS. The ball has secured thereto a tail 20. Thus it will be seen that the tail is movably mountedto the body3 and capable of moving sideways in opposite directions.
Flexible elements 2| are securedto opposite sides of the ball and pass over a guide 22 mountedin'the chamber Sandare connected to the stirrup straps l3. With this arrangement of flexible elements 2| the tail may be moved in natingly depressing the stirrups l5.
A leaf spring 23 has one end anchored to the body 3 and its opposite end fitted in a recess of the ball. The leaf spring acts to position the tall 20 in a normal position. i
Having described the invention, I claim:
1. A hobby horse comprising a member in the form of a horse and having a chamber, a supporting post extending into the chamber, a base for said post, a pivot between the memberand the post whereby said member may have rocking motion on the post, a leaf springfixed to the post and extending upwardly in the chamber, spaced members located in the chamber and engagement'therewith and secured to the meni-v ber. i
- 2. A hobby horse comprising a member in the form of a horseand having a chamber, a supporting post extending into the chamber, a base for said post, apivot between the member and the post whereby said member may have rocking 1 motion on the post, a leaf spring fixed to the post, spaced members receiving the leaf spring and secured to the member, a ball journaledto said membergavtail secured to the ball, stirrups yieldably connected to the member, and flexible means connecting the stirrups toopposite sides ofthe'ball.
