Hence, when the holder is moved downwardly in the usual manner, the cutting edges of the blade are at an angle to the direction of movement of the holder.
Said angle may be made as large or as small as is desired.
Likewise the cutting edge of the blade is spaced from the guard teeth, so as to provide unobstructed cutting action. However, it would not be departing from the invention if the cutting edge or edges of the blade were close to the edges of the guard, since the essential feature is the diagonal cutting eiiect' above mentioned.
Instead of using separate plates 4 and 5, said plates could be connected to", or they could be integral with the members I and 2.
Likewise said plates 4 and 5 could be connected to, or they could be integral with the blade 6.
One of said plates 4 or 5 could be connected to, or could be made integral with, the corre sponding member of the holder, or. with the blade 6.
The invention also applies to blades having a single cutting edge, although it has been illustrated specifically in connection with blades having two cutting edges.
I do not wish to be limited to the specific means shown for holding the blade so that its edges will be in said diagonal relationship.

For example, the invention may be utilized by having a holder of the conventional type, and having the axis of the handle or holding part H, inclined to the clamping parts of the razor,
instead of being perpendicular to said clamping parts.
The natural tendency will be then to move the razor in a'direction parallel to the axis of the holding part H, thus securing said diagonal stroke.
However the construction illustrated more speciiically is preferable, since it permits the parts to be made andattached in the ordinary manner, and the razor can be moved vertically, while securing the correct diagonal cutting stroke.
Likewise, the body of the blade is held rigid, save for the cutting edge 'portions thereof, which are not clamped, so that said cutting edge portions are flexible and can yield upwardly and downwardly relative to the members L and 2.
I claim: I 1. A safety razor comprising superposed longitudinally taperedmembers adapted to hold a 'blade between them, said members having surfaces adapted to abut the blade, said surfaces being inclined to the axis of the holding part 01 the razor. v

A safety razor comprising superposed members and means adapted to force said superposed members towards each other so as to clamp a blade between said superposed members, plates located between said superposed members and having the blade located between them, said plates being longitudinally tapered, so that each said plate has a thick end and a thin end, the
