Application April 17,
4 Claims.
Our invention relates to improvements in basket attachments.
One of the'objects of our invention is to provide a novel basket structure of channel shape having means for attachment to a support, such as an ironing board or table top, and adapted to receive depending portions of goods, such as sheets or garments, which at the time are being ironed or otherwise manipulated on the support. A further object of our invention is to provide a novel basket attachment which is simple, strong, cheap, durable, notlikely to get out of order, and which may be easily and quickly applied to or removed from its operative position.
The novel features of our invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates the preferred embodiment of our invention,
Fig. l is a perspective view of the basket de- 20 tached from its support.
Fig. 2 is an end view of two of the improved baskets shown attached to a support respectively adjacent to opposite edges thereof, the support being shown partly broken away and in vertical 25 section.
Fig. 3 is 'a front elevation partly broken away of one of the baskets shown attached to a support which is partly broken away and in vertical section.
Similar characters of reference designate similar parts in the different views.
The basket structure, which, as shown, is composed of wire comprises the following described parts. A wire member has two U shaped por- 35 tions I at opposite ends of the structure, the upper ends of said portions being connected by a longitudinal portion 2.
The upper portions of the U shaped portions l extend upwardly and rearwardly and then for- 40 wardly to form return bend portions 3 which terminate in end portions 4 which are longitudinally alined with each other and are respectively disposed in two holes of suitable supporting means, which, as shown consist in two screw eyes 5 which 45 are screwed into the under side of the support 6, which may be a table top or an ironing board, the screw eyes being disposed adjacent to one edge of the support 6. The eyes of the screw 5 are longitudinally alined. The upper portions of 50 the rear arms of the U shaped portions l are resilient and are adapted to be moved toward and from each other, to enable the end portions 4 being sprung out of or into the eyes of the screw eyes 5, for the removal or insertion of the 55 basket.
1936, Serial No. 74,941
The return bend portions 3 extend rearwardly beyond the end portions 4, and are adapted to bear against the under side of the support 6 to l mit the downward tilting of the basket structure.
l designates a longitudinal wire member having at its ends two longitudinal loops 8 through which the upper portions of the rear arms of the U shaped portions I respectively extend and are movable longitudinally of the loops 8.
E! designates a plurality of U shaped wire members disposed intermediate of and parallel with the U shaped portions l, and which have the upper ends of their front and rear arms respectively attached to the longitudinal portion 2 and to the longitudinal member 1, thereby supporting the latter.
i9 designates two longitudinal wire members, one having its ends attached to the front arms of the portions l and members 9, the other having its ends attached to the rear arms of the portions l and the members 9.
i i designates a longitudinal wire member having its ends attached to the bottom portions of theportions l. The members It] and II also, preferably, are attached to the members 9 in any suitable manner, as by soldering, galvanizing or dipping in molten metal.
The basket structure just described forms a channel shaped structure adapted to receive depending portions of sheets, or garments that are being ironed, or otherwise treated, on the support 6, thereby keeping such depending portions from reaching the fioor.
As shown in Fig. 2, two pairs of screw eyes 5 are attached to the under side of the support 6 respectively adjacent to opposite edges of the support, and two baskets may be respectively supported by said pairs of screw eyes.
The screw eyes 5 are disposed sufficiently adjacent to the edge of the support 6, that the channel of the basket will be mostly at the outer side of the vertical plane of such edge, as is shown in Fig. 2.
To remove the basket from the support the upper portions of the rear armsof the portions i are sprung toward each other sufficiently to withdraw the end portions 4 from the screw eyes 5. To replace the basket, the rear arms of the portions i aresprung toward each other and then permitted to enter the eyes respectively of the screw eyes 5, the return bend portions 3 being disposed against the under side of the support 6, thus limiting the downwardly swinging of the basket structure.
Many modifications of our invention, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of our invention.
'What we claim is:-- I 1. In a basket attachment, a channel shaped structure adapted to receive goods. depending 'from a support and comprising a member having two U shaped portions and a longitudinal portion connected to the upper ends of the front arms of .said U shaped portions the upper portions of the rear arms of said U shaped portions having means adapted for engagement with and to be supported by suitable supporting means under said support, said upper portions being resilient and movable toward and from eachothe'r for engagement with and detachment from said supporting means, and meanssupported by said member and including a longitudinal member having at its ends respectively longitudinal loops through which said upper portions, respectively extend.
2; In a basket attachment, channel'shaped portions respectively extend and movable length- 7 wiseoi said loops tor engagement and disengage-.
,ment, irom said support; and a U shaped member intermediate of and parallel with said two U shaped portions and having the upper ends of its front arms attached to and supported by said longitudinal portion, and having the upper ends of its rear arms attached to and supporting said longitudinal member.
3. In a basket attachment, the combination with supporting means provided with two eyes and adapted to be attached to the under sideof a support, of a channel shaped structure adapted to receive goods depending from said support and comprising a member having ,two U shaped portions and a longitudinal portion connecting the upper ends of the front arms of said U'shaped portions, the upper portions of the rear arms of said U shaped portions having their ends longitudinally alined with each other and movable toward and from each other out of and'into the eyes respectively'of said suporting means in which said'ends are respectively supported, said upper portions extending rearwardly beyond said eyes and adapted to engage the under side of said support for limiting the downward tilting of said structure, and means supported by said member and including a longitudinal member having loops at its ends through which said upper portions extend and are movable lengthwise of said loops. V
4. In a basket attachment, the combination with a support, of basket supporting: means attached thereto, and a basket, fsaid basket com:'
prising channel shaped structure adapted to receive goods depending from said support and comprising a member having two U shaped portions and a longitudinal portion connected to the upper ends of the front arms of said U shaped portions, the upper portions of the rear-arms of said U shaped portions being resilient and movable toward and from each other and having their ends engaging and supp'ortedby said supporting means and adapted to be sprung into and out of engagement with said supporting means, said upper portions extending rearwardly beyond their ends and-bearing against the under side of said support for limiting the downward tilting of said structure'a longitudinal member having at its ends respectively two loops through whichlsaid I upper'portions respectively extend and are movable lengthwise of said loops, andra U shaped member intermediate of said U shaped portions and parallel therewith'and having the upper ends of its arms attached respectively to saidlongitudinal portion and to said longitudinal member,
