1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in display holders for timepieces, and more particularly to those having a display member of reduced size secured in the rear cover-plate of the timepiece.
One object of this invention is to provide an improved display holder for timepieces having a visible display member secured in an opening in the rear cover-plate of the timepiece.
Another object of this invention is to provide improved means for securing a frame-ring in an aperture in the rear cover of a timepiece and securing a display member in the frame-ring.
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved cover-plate and display-member construction formed of simple elements readily manufactured and readily assembled to produce an attractive durable construction at minimum cost.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention includes all improvements over the prior art which are disclosed in this application.
In the accompanying drawing, in which one Way of carrying out the invention is shown for illustrative purposes:
Fig. 1 is a rear elevation illustrating a watch constructed in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the rear coverplate with the frame-ring and display member; and
Fig. 4 is a central sectional view of the framering.
In the description and claim, the various parts are identified by specific names for convenience, but they are intended to be as generic in their application as the prior art will permit.
Referring to the drawing, the watch II] has a center-band I I and a removable back coverplate l2 having a. central aperture l3 of reduced size, in which aperture is secured a framering 14.
The frame-ring l4 has an annular stop-flange l5 and an annular skirt l6 extending therefrom through the aperture I3. The stop-flange l5 has an inwardly-extending annular portion l1 preferably so constructed as to provide an annular space H3 in which a crystal [9 may be secured.
A display member 26 which may, for example, be a picture, may be supported by a backingmember 2| which may, for example, be a piece of cardboard. The skirt I6 is preferably flared outwardly, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, to secure 5 the frame-ring Ml in position in the aperture l3 of the back cover-plate i2, and one or more portions 22 of the skirt l6 are preferably bent inwardly to engage the backing-member 2|, or to directly engage the display member in such 10 instances where a separate backing-member is unnecessary.
If desired, the crystal I 9 may be omitted, in such instances where the display member is of sufficient stiffness to remain in place.
It will also be appreciated that instead of the separate parts I9, 20, 2| being employed, a single display unit such, for example, as a dis play unit of the general type of a lapel button, may be secured in the frame-ring.
The invention may be carried out in other specific ways than those herein set forth without departing from the spirit and essential characteristics of the invention, and the present embodiments are, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, and all changes coming within the meaning and equivalency range of the appended claim are intended to be embraced therein.
I claim:
A timepiece display-holder construction ineluding: a removable cover-plate having an aperture of considerably less size than the said cover-plate; a thin-metal frame-ring having a stopflange overlying the exterior surface of said cover-plate adjacent said aperture, the frame-ring also having a single-layer tubular skirt extending through the aperture in said cover-plate and with the inner edge thereof circumferentially continuous; and a display-member in said frame- 40 ring; the circumferentially-continuous edge-portion of said tubular skirt being enlarged and flared outwardly to secure the frame-ring in the aperture of the cover-plate and part thereof being distorted inwardly to secure said displaymember in said frame-ring.
