4 Claims.
The invention relates to containers and more particularly to shipping containers and especially to containers used for packing and shipping rolls of shade cloth and other roll materials.
.The general object of the invention is to provide a shipping container formed of paper or fiber having a tubular body portion and closures secured thereto of novel construction and embodying a head member, a drawhead portion receiving said head and projecting therefrom, the
projecting portion of said drawhead being reinforced by a fiber hoop or ring which is secured to the body portion of the container.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and eificient construction for securing the head end of the container in place during shipment.
The invention further consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawing;
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the container embodying the invention, parts being broken away;
Fig. 2 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section, the section being taken on the line- 1 5 fastener.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 8, designates a tubular fiber body member forming the siding of the container and formed preferably of a number of plies of paper adhesively secured together and wound into tubularg form though it may be of pulp, fiber or other cellulose material.
A bottom head 8 fits within one end of the siding 8 and is formed of a disk, ll) of fiber, paper, wood, metal, or other suitable material, a drawhead member I I preferably of a heavy kraft I paper receiving the disk l0 within it and adhesively secured thereto and having an annular portion l2 projecting therefrom within which a fiber or laminated paper ring or hoop J3 fitsr As noted this head telescopes within the end ;of the siding 8 and is preferably secured thereto by adhesive applied between the depending portion l2 of the drawhead II and the siding and by 65 U-shaped wire staples it that pass through the 1936, Serial No. 67,802
siding, the portion l2, and the ring I 3, and are clamped at l5 against the ring [3. The portion I2 is also preferably adhesively secured to the ring [3 so that a siding, the drawhead, and-the ring constitute practically a one-piece laminated structure.
The cover head i6 is similar to the bottom head 9 in that it includes a disk I! of fiber or laminated paper, wood, metal, or other suitablematerials, a drawhead I8 of heavy kraft paper within which the disk l'l fits and is adhesively secured thereto and having an annular extension l8 within which a fiber or laminated paper ring l9 fits and to which it is secured by adhesive, this head adapted to slidably telescope within the upper end of the siding 8 and abut against a shoulder ring 20 of fiber or laminated paper or wood secured to the siding 8 by U-shaped flat metal clips 2! whose legs pass through the siding 8 and the ring 20 and are crimped at 22 against the inner side of the ring. These clips are also formed to provide a centrally disposed outwardly offset portion 23; and when the cover is in place in the drum as shown in Fig. 2, clamping members 24 having hooked-shaped ends 25 are adapted to have their hooked ends pushed down into embedding engagement with the ring l9 and their shanks 26 inserted through the 0&- set portions 23 of the clips 2| and the ends 21 of the shanks then bent back over the offset 23 as shown in Fig. 2 so as to secure the'head I6 to the siding. For releasing the head the ends 21 of the clamping members 24 are bent'back to permit of their removal and the head pulled out of the siding with theaid of a wire ball 28 whose ends 29 are anchored in the head l6 by fastening the same tothe ring I9. The shoulder ring 2|) may also be secured to the siding by adhesive, and in the drawing the stippling indicates the adhesive between the various parts that have been previously referred to.
I desire it to be understood that this invention is not to be limited to any particular form or arrangement of parts except in'so far as such limitations are included in the claims.
' What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a. fiber container, the combination of a fiber siding, a head, adapted to fit within said fiber siding, a head, adapted to fit within said siding, having a disk member, a 'drawhead of heavy paper within which said disk member fits and to which it is adhesiveiy secured, and a thick fiber ring abutting said disk member. and fitting within the sides of said drawhead and adhesively secured thereto, and means ior securing said head to said siding.
3. In a fiber container, the combination of a fiber aiding, a head, adapted to fit within said sidiizig having a disk member, a drawhead or heavy paper within which said disk member fits, and a thick fiber ring abutting said disk memher and fitting within the sides of saiddraw- I 15 head, said drawhead being also adhesively secured to said disk member and to said siding.
4. In a fiber container, the combination oi a fiber siding, a head, adapted'tn fit within said siding, having a disk member, a drawhead of heavy paper within which said disk member fits and to which it is secured, and a thick fiber ring abutting said disk member and fitting within the sides of said drawhead and secured thereto, a
said head and having shanks engageable with i said clips- OSCAR E. PARKINSON.
