This invention relates to a garment protector which is adapted for use upon an ordinary garment hanger.

An object of the invention is the construction of a protector which is freely adjustable upon a garment hanger.

Another object of the invention is the construction of a simple, inexpensive and efficient protector that can be readily placed under a garment on a garment hanger, and when so placed, it will retain its position, for protecting the garment,

,A further object of the invention is the construction of a protector which. is inexpensive to manufacture and which embodies reinforcing and strengthening means at one end that" also constitutes the means for holding the protector on a garment hanger, and the protector is also provided with means along its edges for preventing a garment mounted thereon from sliding along the protector.

Another object of the invention is the provision upon a garment hanger of two freely adjustable protectors with novel means for preventing the protectors from accidental lengthwise movement upon the garment hanger.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure '7 is an enlarged fragmentary View of the protector showing one of its roughened or serrated edges, and in dotted lines, a garment is seen as held by this edge to prevent lengthwise movement of the garment along the protector when once placed in position on the garment hanger.

My improved protector is preferably formed from a piece of cardboard or like material and 5 comprises an elongated body 3, which is provided .at preferably its inner end 4 with a V- shape slot 5; said slot extending preferably to a transverse score line 6 (Fig. 6), upon which line the end 4 is bent downwardly producing two 10 clamping or gripping ears I, Fig. 4, when mounted upon the garment hanger, Fig. 1. By reason of the V-shape slot 5 the ears l are folded close together properly, for the wire-clamping action without any other means (Figs. 2 and 4). The 15 protector is transversely curved, as seen in Fig.

5, to eificiently fit upon the portion 2 of the garment hanger. The protector lies snug upon the garment hanger and can be adjusted freely the length of a portion 2. 20

The garment 8 (dotted lines Figs. 5 and 7) is first placed upon the garment hanger, then the operator quickly .and easily places two of the protectors under the garment and into position. The operator can adjust the protectors on the 5 garment hanger as clearly shown by the dotted positions in Fig. 1. The ears I of the protectors are turned down, thereby reinforcing or strengthening the protector as well as keeping it in shape and position upon the garment hanger.

The two longitudinal edges of each protector are roughened or serrated at 9, allowing portions of the garment to enter the serrations, as clearly seen in Fig. '7, whereby the garment mounted on the protector is kept from accidental sliding or 35 longitudinal movement after the operator has adjusted or positioned the protector upon the garment hanger. This is very desirable, and by reason of the simple structure, the device is inexpensive to manufacture.

My novel protectors not only allow easy positioning upon the garment hanger, but they also slide back and forth to fit any width hanger or garment or bag. The protectors can be manufactured out of blanks by automatic machinery, 45 closely stacked or packed and easily shipped, and whenapplying can be easily and quickly formed into their transverse concavo-convexed shape (Fig. 5) with the ears turned down, for transversely strengthening the body as well as 50 holding the entire protector on the garment hanger by action of the ears 1 clamping the wire portion 2, against lateral displacement.

While I have described the preferred embodiment of myinvention and illustrated the same 55 in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alternations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the present invention,

What I claim is:

A garment protector comprising a blank provided near one end with a transverse scoring and with bent-in ears at said scoring, and said blank curved transversely from said scoring to its other end in a uniform manner.
