Description

Inventor s A g llomeys Jan. 26, 1937. PQGAVRILES COMBINATION FAUCET Filed Feb. 27, 1936 -7 63? aw/1Z9;
By QM Patented Jan. 26, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to water faucets or spigots and more particularly to a combination faucet and drinking fountain.
An object of the present invention is to provide a faucet characterized by simplicity of construction which at the same time will prove efficient as a drinking fountain.
The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a faucet embodying the features of the present invention. Figure 2 is an enlarged detail sectional view through the discharge end of the faucet further illustrating the invention.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the discharge end of the faucet.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals 20 it will be seen that 5 indicates a spigot or faucet which is of conventional structure except that at the discharge end 6 thereof the spigot 5 has rising therefrom a relatively short tubular branch I through which some of the water passing through the spigot 5 is caused to issue through the medium of an integral partition 8 which at the discharge end of the spigot divides the spigot into a passage 9 through which the water passes to discharge from the spigot in the usual manner and a passage I!) through which some of the water passes into the branch I to issue therefrom in the form of a fountain and to be used for drinking purposes.
For the fountain branch I there is provided a 35 cap or cover plate I! hinged to one side of the branch I in any suitable manner and indicated generally at l2. Suitably secured to the under side of the cap II is a plug l3 of rubber or other suitable material which has a substantially frus- 40 to-conical part which seats in the flared end M of the branch I when the cap H is in the closed position shown.
Cap 1 I has a finger piece l5 integral therewith and projecting therefrom and secured to the under side of the finger piece as at [6 is a spring catch l'l adapted to engage over a keeper i8 in the form of an integral protuberance formed on the outer wall of the branch 1 as shown.
From the above it will be seen that when the valve of the spigot 5 is open the water may discharge from the spigot in the usual manner. However certain of the water will be caused to flow through the passage l0 into the fountain 10 branch I and when the cap or cover plate I5 is swung to open position and in the direction indicated by the arrows in Figure 2 the water passing into the branch I will issue therefrom in the form of a fountain to be used for drinking 15 purposes.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a faucet, an upstanding branch adjacent the discharge end of the faucet, an inwardly extending lip at the bottom of the branch so positioned in the bore of the faucet as to divert a portion of the liquid through said branch, and a closure for the upper end of said branch.
2. In a faucet, an upstanding branch adjacent the discharge end of the faucet, and an internal partition at the inner end of said branch and extending inwardly of the bore of the faucet whereby water flowing through the faucet will have a portion thereof diverted upwardly through said branch, said branch forming a fountain discharge, a hinged lid for said branch and interengaging means on said lid and said branch for releasably receiving the lid in closed position.
3. In a faucet, an upstanding branch adjacent the discharge end of the faucet, and an internal partition at the inner end of said branch and extending inwardly of the bore of the faucet whereby water flowing through the faucet will have a portion thereof diverted upwardly through said branch, said branch forming a fountain discharge, and a hinged lid for said branch.
PETE GAVRILES.
