Description

Patented Dec. 29, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
The present invention appertains to new and useful improvements in syringes for human or other animals.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a syringe for facilitating the giving of enemas or douches to stock or to humans in an easy and convenient manner without harm to the rectum or vulva.
The present invention is an improvement on my Patent No. 1,969,831, filed April 10, 1934, and
issued August 14, 1934.
The principal object of the present invention over my Patent 1,969,831 is to provide a syringe which can be retained in position preparatory to gripping the rectum or vulva, after which the same can be actuated to actually grip the walls of the rectum or vulva, thus eliminating the likeliehood of the syringe accidentally slipping from position before the necessary connection with rectum or vulva wall has been made.
Various other import-ant objects and advan tages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a longitudinal sectional view through the syringe.
Figure 2 represents a top plan view of the syringe.
Referring to the drawing, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents an elongated tubular member provided with the hemispherical-shaped head 6 having the blunt end portion 1 at which the passageway 8 of the tube 5 terminates. The
opposite end of the tube 5 is provided with a circumferentially extending flange 9 and a nipple extension it) over which the fluid hose can be disposed. An elongated member ll extending longitudinally on the tube 5 is provided with ratchet teeth l2.
A frusto-conic-al shaped clamp member I3 is slidably disposed on the tube 5 and is provided with a beveled edge portion l4 complemental to the beveled edge portion 55 of the head 6.
This frusto-conical shaped clamp member I3 is provided with a projecting spring arm l6 engageable with the ratchet teeth l2 and the same is provided with the finger engageable knob ll whereby the same can be fixed to permit free sliding motion of the clamp element l3 on the tube 5.
In the use of this syringe, the head 6 is inserted into the rectum or vulva of the animal a sufficient distance so that the outer end of the rectum or vulva will overlap the beveled portion I5 thereof, and when this occurs, the frustoconical shaped clamp member 13 can be pushed toward the head 6 to clamp this wall portion of the rectum or vulva between itself and the head. 5
The water or other liquid can now be passed through the tube into the rectum or vulva of the animal-human or lower animal as the case might be.
While the foregoing specification sets forth 10 the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter. 15
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A syringe of the character described comprising an elongated tube provided with an enlarged head at one end thereof, an annular 20 clamp member slidable on the tubular member adapted to be urged toward the head, securin means between the clamping member and the tubular member, said securing means comprising an elongated member on the tubular member pro- 25 vided with ratchet teeth, and a detent on the clamp member engageable with the ratchet teeth.
2. A syringe of the character described comprising an elongated tube provided with an enlarged head at one end thereof, an annular 30 clamp member slidable on the tubular member adapted to be urged toward the head, securing means between the clamping member and the tubular member, said securing means comprising an elongated member on the tubular member 35 provided with ratchet teeth, a detent on the clamp member engageable with the ratchet teeth, said detent consisting of a spring arm extending from the clamp member and having its free end engaged with the ratchet teeth. 40
3. A syringe of the character described comprising an elongated tube provided with an enlarged head at one end thereof, an annular clamp member slidable on the tubular member adapted to be urged toward the head, securing means be- 45 tween the clamp-member and the tubular member, said head being of hemispherical shape and having its inner end beveled, said clamp member being of frusto-conical shape and having its edge portion opposed to the head beveled and complementary to the beveled portion of the head.
