TOILET BOWL :Filed June 22, 1935 A TTORNEY.
Patented Aug. 4, 1936 imireo S AT-E5 PATENT OFFICE TOILET BowL v Arthur A. Byerlein, Detroit, Mich.
" Application June 22;1935, Serial No. 27,866
) 7; Claims.
a toilet bowl in which the toilet seat is hingedly mounted over the said compartment and the toilet seat hinge is arranged to support a roll of toilet paper.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toilet bowl of the character described in which the usual flushing means is provided and an auxiliary flushing means may also be provided at one side of the toilet bowl for flushing the compartment.
These objects and the several novel features of the invention are hereinafter more fully described and claimed and the preferred form of construction by which these objects are attained is shown in the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a toilet bowl embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is .an enlarged section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
As shown in Fig. l, a toilet bowl I is provided which is of the usual porcelain construction and which is provided with a flush tank 2 operated by a flush valve handle 3. Formed integrally at one side of the bowl is a chamber 4 having a sloping bottom 5 and a vertical outer wall 6. This chamber is open to the interior of the bowl on one side to allow free access between the compartment and the bowl anda nozzle or jet 1 is supported in the wall 6 of the chamber 4 and is supplied with water through a water pipe 8 which is connected to the water supply pipe 9 for the flush tank 2. Flow through the pipe 8 is controlled by means of a manually operated valve handle it shown more particularly in Fig. 1 and the stem of which is shown in Fig. 2. By this arrangement, the valve handle l0 may be turned to one position to allow water to flow through the jet or nozzle 1 into the chamber 4 and by turning the valve handle in the opposite direction the water supply to the chamber 4 may be shut cit. At the upper edge of the vertical wall ii, the compartment is provided with an outwardly extending flange H. A pair of toilet paper (Cl. 4-6} roll supports l2 are provided each having an end I3 extending through the flange I l and having a nut It on the bottom by means of which the supports l2 may be firmly secured in vertical position. Each support I2 is provided at the upper end with aslot, as shown in Fig. 1, in which the toilet paper roll spindle is supported so that the roll I5 will readily turn'in' the supports. Each' support I2 is also provided with an integral arm It and a bracket ll, shown more particularly in Fig.1, is provided with upturned lugs "5 which are pivotally connected to the arms l6 by the pivot pins l 9. This metal bracket I1 is provided with extending ends 20 and 2| and one portion 22 of the toilet seat is secured to the end 2| while the other portion 23 of the toilet seat is secured to the bracket 20. By this arrangement, the seat may be turned up sidewise on the pivot pins H) to allow access to the interior of the bowl, if desired.
In use, the valve handle I0 may be turned to 20 allow the water to flow from the nozzle 1 through the compartment 4 and over the edge 24 of the said compartment into the toilet bowl. The toilet paper may be torn off from the roll and wet at the nozzle 1 of the said compartment and 25 may be used without dripping any water over any portion of the toilet seat due to the shape and design of the said seat in combination with the compartment 4 which allows free access between the compartment and the toilet bowl. The valve handle It may be turned, if desired, to allow a steady flow through the nozzle 1 into the compartment 4 or may be used for flushing the compartment and then turning the valve off. By the arrangement shown, the toilet paper is mounted at a convenient point in relation to the compartment 4 and by arranging the seat as shown, no water need be dripped over the seat as free access is allowed between the compartment and the bowl.
Having thus fully described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States isroll mounted in said supports, a toilet seat brack et pivotally connected to the aforesaid sup-ports and a toilet seat secured to the toilet seat bracket, the toilet seat being provided with an open portion over the compartment allowing free access between the compartment and the bowl.
2. The combination with a toilet bowl of a compartment formed integrally with the upper portion of the bowl and opening into the bowl, independent flushing means for flushing the said compartment, said flushing means directing water into the compartment and'through the open side thereof into the toilet bowl, a bracket pivotally mounted on the upper edge of the compartment and a toilet seat secured tosaid bracket, said toilet seat having an opening over the compartment to allow free access between the compartment and the bowl. 7
3. The combination with a toilet bowl provided with a flush tank of a compartment formed integrally with one side of the bowl and opening thereinto for the full width of the compartment, a nozzle d scharging into the compartment, .a toilet .seat supportedon the outer edge of the compartment and a toilet paper roll holder mounted on the outer edge of said compartment,
4-,. The combination with a toilet bowl provided with a-flush tank of a compartment formed integrally with the bowl and opening thereinto. flushing means for flushing the said -compart-. ment, said flushing means allowing water to flow through the compartment and through the open side thereof into the toilet bowl and a toilet seat pivotally mounted on the upper edge of said compartment.
5. The combination with a toilet bowl provided with a flush tank of a compartment formed integrally with one side of the bowl and opening thereinto for its full width and flushing means for flushing the said compartment, said fiushing means allowing water to flow through the compartment and through the open .side thereof into the toilet bowl.
6. The combination with a toilet bowl provided with a flush tank of a compartment formed integrally with one side of the bowl and opening thereinto for the full width of the compartment, a nozzle discharging into the compartment, a manually operable valve for controlling flow through said nozzle, said compartment being provided with a bottom sloping into the bowl.
7,. The combination with a toilet bowl provided with :a .fiush tank, of a compartment formed integrally with the bowl and opening thereinto, flushing means for flushing the said compartment, said flushing means allowing the water to flow through .the compartment and through the open side thereof into the toilet bowl and a toilet seat pivotally mounted to .rest on the upper edge of the toilet :bowl.
