My invention relates to stokers .and has for its object to provide a new and efficient fire pot, tuyere and means for preventing back smoking of the device.
A further object is to provide a fire pot of simplified construction in which the tuyere is set, said tuyre being formed of removable rings set one on the other and each provided with tuyere openings through which the forced draft is introduced to the fuel in the fire pot.
A still further object is to provide a tuyere having the top formed integral with the cover of the fire pot and air chamber and having the tuyere circular in form and with the tuyere openings formed between spaced apart rings carried under the main tuyere ring of the cover of the fire pot.
A still further object is to provide a fire pot constructed with the tuyere rings mounted under a curved annular expansion and contraction ring and shield ring of the cover of the pot to provide a fire pot and tuyre which will not crack or break, due to the expansion and contraction thereof from the heats in the furnace.
These objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described in the specification forming a part of this application and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing in which I have shown the best and most preferred manner of building my invention Figure 1 is a side elevation of the fire pot and tuyre assembled.
Figure 2 is a plan view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical section of the device.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the upper ring of the tuyre which fits under the curved expansion ring.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the lower ring.
In the drawing I have shown the rectangular air chamber. and base of the fire pot as A, to which a cover B is secured by bolts I being passed down through each reinforced corner of the cover B into flanges 2 formed in the upper corners of the pot A. Centrally into one end of the pot A, I provide the inlet casting 3 into which the feed tube and feed worm fit. Onto the top side of the inlet section 3, I provide a sloping chamber d in 'open connection with the interior of the pot and with the inlet opening so that when there is air pressure. in the fire pot A there will be air pressure passing through the chambert into the opening 3 and out through a curved outlet pipe 5 of the tuyre. This prevents back smoking through the device.
The pipe 5 is carried in the pot A by flanges 6 formed on each side thereof and on the end thereof to fit onto brackets 8 formed within the pot A, and the small tapered end 9 of the pipe 1933, Serial No. 659,072
is fit onto the end of the screw and feed pipe. The pipe 5 is tapered outwardly at the same time it is curved upwardly and the top end I of the pipe is at right angles to the inlet or feed pipe, and onto the top of the pipe 5 I place the smaller of the two tuyere rings. Then over the top of the smaller ring H] I place a larger ring II and onto the top of this is the curved expansion and cover ring l2 of the cover B of the device.
Each ring l and H are provided with spaced apart bosses I! to space the rings apart and leave tuyere openings l3 therebetween. The plane 58 of the surface of rings l0 and II between the bosses H is sloping to prevent dust and ashes entering the pot B through the openings 13. The top ring I I is provided with depending lugs Hi to hold the rings concentric. The inner bore I of the rings and of the expansion ring is tapered,
from the expansion ring down to the smallest bore of the lower ring I l, which is the same diam eter as the outer bore of the pipe 5. Angled outwardly from the expansion ring l2 toward each corner of the cover B are flanges or braces 16 to brace the rings in its expansion and contraction tying the ring to the corners of the pot A.
Having thus described my invention Idesire to secure by Letters Patent and claim:-
1. In an underfeed stoker, the combination of a casing having its upper end open; a fire pot mounted in said casing and spaced therefrom; a
cover mounted on the upper end of said casing and spanning the space between said casing and firepot, said cover having .a raised annular portion surrounding the upper portion of said fire pot and overlapping the upper edge thereof, said annular portion being raised above the rest of the cover by an annular vertical wall whereby said annular portion may expand and contract without buckling and cracking the cover.
2. The invention as set forth in claim 1 characterized in that said plate is provided with reinforcing ribs extending radially outward from said raised annular portion.
3. In an underfeed stoker, the combination of a casing having its upper end open, a fire pot mounted in said casing and spaced therefrom; annular tuyere rings carried concentric with and on the top of said pot with tuyre openings between said rings; a cover plate mounted on the upper end of said casing spanning the space between said casing and said tuyere rings; said plate having a raised annular portion surrounding the upper portion of said fire pot and rings and overlapping the upper edge of the top ring, said annular portion being raised above the rest of the plate by an annular vertical wall whereby said annular portion may extend and contract without buckling and cracking said plate.
