This adjusting screw is journaled within a bearing member 35 attached to the cutter bar, and is provided with a head 36 provided with openings 37for the reception of a suitable turning instrument, the top plate 24 of the cutter bar being slotted at 38 to permit insertion of the turning instrument within the openings 37. It will thus be seen that upon rotation of the adjusting screw, the latter is threaded inwardly and outwardly relative to the threaded projection 34, thereby to move the cutter bar longitudinally either inwardly or outwardly relative to the` block 23. When it is desired to remove the cutter bar from the machine body, the machine is turned on its side, and 'the screws 22 removed, thereby permitting longitudinal withdrawal of the cutter bar and block 23 from the machine body, the block 23 sliding outwardly along the slots 19, 2l during withdrawal of the cutter bar. Y From the foregoing description, it is clearly evident that an improved cutter bar is provided,
of an exceedingly simple and rugged construction, the main body of the bar consisting only of the top and bottom plates and cooperating spacing membersheld in position by the guiding and positioning block 23. Further, by the provision of the improved bar supporting and-positioning means, it is possible to provide a cutter bar of simple andrugged construction and with a relatively small amount of machining of the parts, the cutter bar being held in position by theguide block, and the latter constituting the sole element for supporting and positioning the bar within the machine body. rlhese and other advantages of the improved cutter bar structure will be clearlyapparent to those skilled in the art. While thereis in this application speciiically` deescribed one form which the invention may assumeV in practice, it will be understood that thisio'rm of the same is shown for purposes of illustration and that the invention may be modiiied and embodied in various other forms without departing from its vspirit or the scope of thev appended claims. v v
vWhat claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A mining machine cutter and bottom plates having longitudinal slots therein and bar supporting means including a supportv having parallel frame portions and a guiding and positioning block arranged within said slots and interposed between and rigidly secured to said frame portions, said 'guiding and positioning block being releasable 4from said frame portions for withdrawal with said bar longitudinally from between said portions while the latter retain their normal space relation.

A mining machine cutter bar including Vtop and bottom plates having longitudinal slots therein `and bar supporting means including a bar including' topy supporting means including a support havingV parallel frame portions and a supporting and positioning block arranged within said slots and interposed between and rigidly secured to said frame portions, said block having lateral ledges cooperating with said spacing members and plates, and means arranged between said block and bar for adjusting said `bar'in a longitudinal direction relative to said block.
5. In a mining machine, a machine body, spaced portions of the body having formed therein longitudinally extending grooves, a guiding and positioning block seated in said grooves and rigidly secured to the body, and a cutter bar having formed therein a longitudinalr slot for receiving said guide block. 6. In a mining machine, a machine body, spaced portions of the body having formed therein longitudinally extending grooves, a-guiding and positioning block seated in said grooves and rigidly secured to the body, a cutter bar, having formed T therein a longitudinal slot for receiving said guide block, and means between the cutter bar and guide block for adjusting ythe bar in a longitudinal direction relative to the machine body;
'7. A mining machine cutter bar including top l and bottom plates having openings therein and bar supporting means including a support having parallel frame portions and aguiding and positioning member arranged withinV saidl openings and interposed between and rigidly secured to said frame' portions, said guiding and positioning member being releasable from said frame portions for withdrawal with `said bar longitudinally fromV between said portions while the latter retaintheir normal space relation.' 1
8. A mining machine cutter barhaving a lon gitudinal slot between its ends, said slot having both its ends closed, and bar supporting means comprising asupport and a bar positioning and guiding block attached to said support and exi tending vertically through said slot.

A mining machine cutter bar having a longitudinal slot between its ends, said 'slot having both its ends closed, bar supportingmeans comprising a support and a bar positioning and guiding block attached to said support andi extending vertically through said slot, and means arranged between said block and bar for adjusting said bar longitudinally relative to said support, said block having guides tting in guideways on said bar ist and said bar sliding along said block guides during such adjustment.

A mining machine cutter bar having a longitudinal slot between its ends, said slot having both its ends closed, and bar supporting means comprising a support and a bar positioning and guiding block attached to said supporty and extending` vertically through said slot, said block havinga series of transverse openings and screws extending through said openings and attached to said support for rigidly securing said block to said support.
12. A mining machine cutter bar having a longitudinal slot between its ends, said slot having both its ends closed, and bar supporting means comprising a support and a bar positioning and guiding block attached to said support andextending vertically through said slot, said block having a series of transverse openings and screws extending through said openings and attached to said support for rigidly securing said block to' said support, said support having formed therein a longitudinal groove and a projection extending longitudinally of said block and tting said groove.
13. A mining machine cutter bar having a longitudinal slot between its ends, said slot having both its ends closed, and bar supporting means comprising a vsupport and a bar positioning and guiding block attached to said support andextending vertically through saidl slot, said block having a series of transverse openings and screws extending through said openings and attached to said support for rigidly securing said clock to said support, said support having formed therein a longitudinal groove and a projection extending longitudinally of said block and tting said groove, said block slidable longitudinally relative to said support upon withdrawal of the block from said support.
14. A mining machine cutter bar having a longitudinal slot between its ends, said slot having both its ends closed, and bar supporting means comprising a support and a bar positioning and guiding block attached to said support and extending vertically through said slot, said support having spaced frame portions between which said block is interposed, said frame portions havtudinally relative to the'support uponlwithdrawal of said block from saidsupport.
16. A mining machine cutter bar comprising spaced upper and lower plates, each having a longitudinal slot lbetween its ends, the slot in the upper plate extending co-extensively with the slot in the lower plate and each of said slotshaving closed ends, and bar supporting means comprising a support having spaced frame portions and a guiding and positioning block interposed between and rigidly attached to said frame portions and extending through said slots.
` 17. A mining machine .cutter bar comprising spaced upper and lower plates, each having a longitudinal slot between its ends, the slot in the upper plate extending co-extensively with the slot in the lower plate and each of said slots having closed ends, bar supporting means comprising a support having spaced frame portions and a guiding and positioning block interposed between and rigidly attached to said frame portions and extending through said slots, and means for adjusting said bar relative to said block, said slots being elongated to permit such adjustment.
