Description

Oct. 3, 1933. M. BLICHER COAT SHIELD AND MATERIAL SUPPORT Filed May 9, 1955 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 3, 1933 OFFICE 1,929,051 ooA'r SHIELD AND MATERIAL surroar Mac 1311131161, New York, N. Y. 7
Application May s, 1933. Serial No. 670,073
2v Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in unlined coats particularly adapted for office use. The invention has particular reference to a shield embodied in the coat Structure toreenforce the 5 material of which the coat is made from a point lying below each arm hole downwardly to the portions of the coat upon which the lower sidepocke ets are hung.
The invention has for its object to provide a reenforcing shield of this character by means of which the life of office coats may be greatly prolonged.
I accomplish the purpose of my invention by means of the embodiment thereof described in the specification, set forth in the appended claims and illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawing, in which, Figure 1 is an inside elevational view of one half of an office coat showing the shield in position, the other half of the garment being a duplicate of that shown; and Figure 2 isa substantially transverse sectional view of the coat and shield taken on lines 22 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, 10 denotes the coat which is made up preferably of a relatively loosely woven material and which includes an arm hole 11 arranged in adjacent portions of the back and side or front panels 12 and 13, respectively, of the garment. Each front panel 13 accommodates a lower outside patch pocket 14 and the left front panel carriesan upper outside pocket 15 and on the inside of each front panel is a shield 16 sewed in place below the arm hole 11. a
The shield comprises a narrow strip of material increased in size at its upper end to embrace a portion of the lower periphery of the arm hole. The adjacent raw edges of the shield 16, front panel 13 and sleeve 17 are bound by means of a tape 18. The lower end of the narrow strip of each 4 shield projects to a point directly in back of the upper or open end of the lower side pocket 15, as illustrated in Figure 1. The entire shield has its edges left in the raw and is attached to the'coat by means of a row of stitching 22 extending marginally thereof. A second reenforcing strip of material 20 is arranged on .theinside of each front panel 13 along a portion lying directly in back of the upper or open end of the lower side pocket 15.
Rows of stitching 21 top and bottom of the strip 20 engage the front panel and. catch the lower end of the narrow portion of the shield 16, which is interposed between the front panel 13 and strip 20.
The upper pocket 15 is supportedat its upper inner comer on the front panel by bringing the mara r side with an outside upper pocket, of a shield for ginal stitching 22 at this point into the enlarged portion of the shield lying directly back of the upper inner comer of the pocket.
It will be seen that the shield according to the present invention protects the garment from giv- 0 ing away because of any excess strain being brought to bear around and below the lower section of the arm hole and from tearing out at the places holding the pockets.
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1. The combination with a coathaving sleeves,
back and front panels, the latter thereof being provided with outside lower pockets and on one each front panel arranged on the inside thereof I underneath the arm hole, said shield comprising a narrow strip projecting upwardly from a point approximately in back of the open end of the side pocket and terminating at its upper end in an enlarged portion reaching to and embracing a section of the lower edge of the arm hole and overlapping on the one front panel the portion thereof carrying the inner upper corner of the upper pocket, and a row of stitching extending along both sides of the shield attaching the latter to the panel'and engaging the corner of the upper pocket on one side.
2. The combination with a coat having sleeves, back and front panels, the latter thereof being provided with outside lower pockets'and on one side with an outside upper pocket, of a shield for each front panel arranged on the inside thereof underneath the arm hole, said shield comprising a narrow strip projecting upwardly from a point approximately in back of the open end of the side pocket. and terminating at its .up-' per end in an enlarged portion reaching to and embracing a section of the lower edge of the arm hole and overlapping on the one front panel the portion thereof carrying the inner upper corner of the upper pocket, and a row of stitching extending along both sides of the shield attaching the latter to the panel and engaging the comer of the upper pocket on one side, and a reenforcing strip for the inner side of each front panel projecting directly in back of the upper open end of the side pocket, the lower end of the shield being disposed between the reenforcing strip and the panel, and a row of stitching along the upper side of the strip engaging the panel and lower end of the shield.
