NIPPLE EVERTER Filed Aug. 12, 1931 179267349 'ro' tfe mvzwron ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 15, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application August 12, 1931.
1 Claim.
The invention relates to a nipple everter and more particularly to a combined ectropion and nipple director.
The primary object of the invention is the 5 provision of a device of this type wherein a flat or inverted nipple will be corrected or directed on everting thereof for successful infant nursing and without injury or inconvenience to the mother during the nursing period.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, readily and easily applicable, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, i1- lustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:-
Figure l is a sectional elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention and the same shown applied.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the director of the device applied.
Figure 3 is a plan view thereof.
Similar reference characters indicate correponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail the device comprises a cup-shaped member 5 preferably Serial No. 556,656
Adapted to be associated with the member 5 is an ectropion which comprises a truncated conical body 8 having at its larger end a circular concavo-convex flange 9 constituting a coupling head for the member 5 to encircle the opening 7 in said member.
Attached to the smaller end of the body 8 is the coupling nipple 10 of a compressible bulb 11, the latter and said nipple being preferably made from rubber while mounted at one side of the 6 said bulb is a spring seated inwardly open air valve 12. The body 8 is preferably made from glass although the same may be made from any other suitable material.
In the use of the device the member 6 is applied to a person as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing, then the head 9 of the body 8 is pressed against the outer side of said member 5 and positioned to have the body aligned with the opening 7 in said member, it being understood of course that the bulb 11 has been compressed so that a suction action will be effected through the body 8 and in this fashion the nipple of such person will become everted from a fiat or inverted condition and thereafter the ectropion is 8 removed from the member 5 and the everted nipple conditioned for an infant during nursing periods.
What is claimed is:- v
A device of the character described comprising a substantially cup-shaped member having a central opening, a hollow ectropion involving a truncated conical body open at opposite ends and provided at its larger open end with a circular concave-convex flange constituting a seat for 0 accommodating the end of said member having the central opening, and a compressible bulb having a coupling nipple joining it with the ectropion, the latter and the said member being free of each other for the centering of one with respect to the other.
