Description

July 25, 1933. LOVE 1,920,088
SHOE FASTENING Filed June 10, 1932 Patented July 25, 1933 UnrrEb STATES ANDREW LOVE, OF PADDING'ION, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA SHOE FASTENING Application filed June 10,
This invention relates to shoe fasteners of the type forming the subject of United States Patent No. 1,741,640, and it, consists in certain improvements with the object of rendering-the fastening adjustable so that it may be adapted to shoes of various sizes,
- or, more correctly, to 'shoes in which the distancesbetween the top and bottom eyelets are various. In the previously patented fastenings the rods had to be made in various lengths to suit different shoes, but in the improved fastening the rods are adjustable as regards length and therefore may, within limits, be adapted to suit differ- 15 cut shoes.
Another improvement is in regard to the means for anchoring the elastic members which are now individually equipped with A anchoring means each of which consists of a 29 small clip formed of a fiat metal plate with a lateral lug turned over to securely grip the elastic member. j
T 0 fully describe and ascertain. the invention reference 1s now made to the accompanying drawing depicting a preferred construction embodying the invention.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing portion of a shoe fitted withthe improved fas- I two bars of one fastening in open arrangement;
Fig. 4 illustrates one of the elastic members With attached anchoring means;
Fig. 5 is a sectional elevation of the device shown in Fig. 4 and Fig. 6 is "a sectional elevation showing portion of a shoe front, an eyelet therein,
an elastic loop with anchoring meansfitted in said eyelet and one of the rod-members passed through said loop,
The shoe 7 has the usual frontal opening 8 and on either side thereof eyelets 9, 9. The fastening consists of a pair of extensible rods indicated generally in Figs. 1, 2 and 6 by reference numeral 10, and a plurality "5c of rubber loop (such as'l fore-meeting? 1932.. Serial No. 616,553.
one of said rods to the eyelets in one side of a shoe front, and the other rod to eyelets inthe other side of the shoe front.
The rods, as, clearly shown in Fig. 3 each consists of two mainparts 10 and 10 the partlObeing tubular and the part 10 being slidable telescopically in the part 10 This constructionenables the rods to be adjusted as'to length for the purpose hereinbefore stated. 2
One of the parts 10 is terminally formed with an offset eye 12, and the other with a hook 13 adapted to engage the eye 12 to constitute a loose hinge connection permitv ting partial rotation or planar displacement of one rod in relation to the other.
T limit the approach of the parts 10 to the hinge and to thus avoid jamming, the parts 10 are formed with inwardly projecting stop-lugs 14.
At the upper end of'each part 10 there is afiixed an v.oflsetlug 15 which serves as a finger grip to facilitate manipulation of the fasteningwhen fitted to a shoe as in Fig .1. One of these lugs 15 isformed with an eye 16 (for uniformity both' are preferably so formed) adapted to receive and releasably retain a hook member 17 projecting from the other lug 15. j
The rubber loops 11 are each secured to an anchor plate 18 of thin metal originally of T shape but with the stem of the T turned ot er to form a hook 19 which engages the loopsee Figs 4 and 5.
In fitting the fastening to a shoe, the
loops 11 are drawn through the eyelets from the inside until the plates 18 lie snugly against the inner face of the shoe front as shown in Fig. 6, the hooks 19 entering the V 16 as shown in Fig. 1. Y 1
What I claim and desire to Letters Patent 1s:
Shoe fastening means, comprising a pair secure; by
of metal rods each consisting of'a tubular.
part and asolid' part slidable in the tubular .part, said rods being loosely hinged together at one end and equipped with 111859118 for mutually and rel'easably engaging their necting one 0 side of a shoe front andthe other rod to eyelets in the other side of the shoe front.
1 ANDREW LOVE.
