This invention relates to a jointed bracelet of the type having two sections hinged at one of their ends and abutting at their other ends where they are rcleasably held in engagement.
An object of this invention is to provide a tubular construction which may be quickly and inexpensively formed and which will be attractive in appearance to the observer.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a flat tubular construction in which the space formed between the top and bottom wall of the tube will be such as to closely fit a resilient latch so that end members need not be used to provide a catch or to close the abutting separable ends of the bracelet.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a construction utilizing the stock of one of the tubular members to form the catch with which the latch engages for bolding the parts in connected position.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a novel method for holding the i top or outer plate in position while it is being soldered to the channel section after which the holding means may be withdrawn. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the formation of bracelets of the single hinge joint tubular construction, it has been 6 secured to the outer side walls of a-channel construction and to provide end walls soldered in position at the ends of the tubular sections to form catches for retaining the parts in assembled position. Such a construction necessitates difiicult soldering and is consequently expensive to produce and in order that a. bracelet may be formed of a jointed construction and one in which soldermg may be reduced or eliminated andyet one in which a more ornamental appearance may be presented by reason of a border, I have provided a channel member with inwardly extending flanges from the side walls of the channel member and positioned a flexible strip or plate beneath the flanges and secured it in this position by a novel method of holding the plate in position by a tool which may be removed after soldering, and in order that a separate end wall or the like may be eliminated, I have formed a catch on the bracelet by deflecting a portion of the stock of the ornamental top wall so that the latch provided on one of the abutting ends of the 05 section may engage therewith for releasably retaining the parts in desired position; and the following is a detailed description of the presentembodiment of this invention illustrating the preferred means by whichthese 100 advantageous results may be accomplished.
\Vith reference to the drawing, nates one section and 11 another section which are secured together by a hinge 12 having parts thereof suitably formed on each of the sections and through whicha pintle pin 13 extends.
Each of the sections are generally similar in construction and consist of a channel 'member 14 havingra bottom wall 15 and side walls 16 with inwardly extending flanges 17 folded in such a way as to provide a beaded portion 18 between the side walls and the in wardly extending shelf portion thereof. A front plate 19 is of resilient material and of a width to substantially span the space between the walls 16 is positioned beneath and in contact with the flanges 17 as illustrated in Fig. 9. In order that the plate 19 may be secured in this position I place pieces 0 solder 20 at spaced distances along the juncture of the parts by suitably tacking them in desired position or in any other desired manner such as within the hollow space provided between the bead 18 and the adjacent plate 19 and then insert a corrugated or sinuous element '21 which acts 7 to force the resilient strip 19 toward and against the flanges as shown in Fig. 9 and when held in this position heat is applied to melt the solder and secure the strip and flanges firmly together after which the element 21 may be removed to again be used for a subsequent similar operation.
In some instances, however, where ing is desired to be entirely may position the sinuous element 21 permanently in the device, such as illustrated in Fig. 11, and there permit it to remain, suitably holding it in position against longitudinal movement with respect to the parts which it engages.
In order that the abutting ends 22 and 23 of the sections 10 and 11 may be releasably held in engagement I have provided a latch 24; on the end 23 having a compressible part 25 and a finger piece 26 which latch may be inserted into the end 22 and there held in engagement with this section 10 by reason of a catch 27 turned downwardly on the end of the top plate 19 to engage the end of the compressible part 25 of the latch as illustrated inFig. 8 and there retain the parts solderin position until released by pressure upon 10 desig eliminated, I

In Fig. 10 I have illustrated the plate 29 as provi ed with flanges 30 to space the plate from the bottom wall 15 of the channel member and thus hold it in position without the need of the corrugated element, such as shown at 21. This, however, provides a much stifler construction and one which must be accurately formed if it is to be utilized in the space for which it is intended.

'I desire it .to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is suscepf tible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the I claim 1. The method of forming a bracelet which consists in providing a channel member with inturned flanges, positioning a flexible strip of metal beneath said flanges holding said member in engagement with said flanges by the insertion of an element between said member and strip, securing sai strip to the sequently removing said element.

The method of forming a bracelet which consists in providing a channel member with :1. rolled bead and flanged portions, positioning a flexible strip of metal beneath the flanged portions so as to leave a hollow space between the bead and the flexible strip, placing soldering material in said hollow space, maintaining said strip in position by the insertion of an element between said member and strip, applying heat to cause the soldering of the strip to the flanged portions and withdrawing said element.
