Description

y 1933. F. J. FLACH CIGARETTE DI SPENSER Filed July 27, 1952 hit Ham; J @5223 BY w 1 j w ATTORNEYS.
Patented July 4, 1933v UNITED S AT S PATENT. o rl-"icli FREDERIC J". FLAGH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A SSIGNOR TO METAL SPECIALTY- COMPANY, OF CINCINNATLDHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO i creennrrn nIsrENs n Application filed 11115 .27, 1932. Serial 624,954.
My inventionrelates to cigarette dispens ers, and particularly to 'a cigarette dispenser for attachment within a motor 'vehicle' It is the obj ect of my invention to provide a cigarette dispenser which-maybesecured to the dashboard of a motor vehicle, and which will dispense cigarettes one at atime, depositing them directly in the-hand of the person operating the dispenser. 7
Another object of my invention is the provision of a cigarette dispenser which will be simple to operate, and which can be constructed inexpensively from pressed metal.
Specifically it is an object of my invention to provide a compartment having a springactuated dispensing guide which, when the guide is actuated by the fingers, will project 7 a cigarette directly into a persons hand.
a Most dispensers of the type to which this invention relates have shelf portions into which the article dispensed is projected, the user then removing the article from the shelf portion. Another object of my invention 25 may be readily removed from a supporting bracket, and in which the bracketiis provided with means for attachment in some position of convenient access to thevdriver or occupant of a motor vehicle. r
The above objects and other objects to which reference will be made in the ensuing disclosure I accomplish by that certain combination and arrangement of parts of which I have shown a preferred modification.
. In the draw1ng:
v Figure 1 is a front elevation of thedispenser. v p
Figure 2 is a sectional view of Figure 1, taken along the lines 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view showing the dispenser in the position in which a cigarette is about to be dispensed into a persons hand, the position of the fingers in operating the device being illustrated in dotted lines;
' The cabinetis preferably formed from a blank pressed into rectangular shape and forming a front wall 1, side walls 2, and a rear wall 3; The metal may be'suitably embossed or decorated to give the appearance of wood. The top 4 is hinged in position by is the provision of a dispenser which means of hinge pins 5. The top may be moved up to a position-parallel with the rear wall, and cigarettes may be filledinto the compartment in the obvious manner.
- The box or compartment has a dispensing opening 6 with an abruptlyterminated lower edge,and a bottom clearance slot 7 which per- .mits the protruding l-ower'end 8, of an inclined guide member 9 to be actuated leaving a stop between the opening 6 and slot 7. The guide member 9 curves downwardly and has an abutment 10 between which and the opening I 6 a cigarette drops when the guide is actuated. The upper end of the guide has downturned ears 11 which may be suitably mounted in openings 12 in the rear wall.
, The backwall is slotted and pressed outwardly to form spaced loops 13, 13a, which receive the spaced tongues 14;, 14a, of a A supply of cigarettes is placed within the compartment, and when it is desired to remove a cigarette the fingers are pressed against theilower end .8 of the guide, and the guide is pushed to the position shown in Figure 3, upon which a cigarette rolls in front of abutment 10 onto the stop. As soon as the pressure of the fingers is released, the guide 9 is pushed forward by spring 17, and the cigarette willbe automatically ejected by abutment 10 through the slot 6 "into the fingers so that it may be readily grasped,
As far as I am advised, the dispenser forming the subject matter of this application is the only one in which the cigarette is automatically ejected into the fingers at the time that the fingersare normally in the position necessary to actuate the dispensing mechanism.
Having'thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is j V 1. A cigarette dispenser comprising a receptacle withfupstanding front, back and bracket 15 whichmay" be provided with a 7 I side walls and a bottom, having a dispensing opening in the lower part of its front wall and having a clearance slot in its bottom, spaced back from said dispensing opening, leaving a stop portion at the rear of the dispensing opening, a guide comprising a curved plate with its upper end hinged to the upper portion of the receptacle adjacent the back thereof, said plate curving down and for ward and then abruptly downward, then abruptly backward, and finally abruptly downward, forming an ejecting abutment at the rear of said dispensing opening by its forward, downward and backward curvature, and forming a manipulating extension by its final downward curvature, said extension projeoting down through said clearance slot, the downward and forward curvature of said plate forming asupport and guide for the cigarettes to pass singly down between the abutment and the dispensing opening as the plate is swung backward, the cigarette restingon the stop portion and being ejected through the base of the container for actuation of the plate, and means for limiting the movement'- of the finger, said abutment and the adjacent portions ofthe walls of the container forming apocket" to receive a single cigaretteat .theopeningwhen the finger is pushed inwardly by the operator and push it out when the finger is released.
' FREDERIC J. F oH."
