The device which forms the subject matter of the invention is very easy to install. lt is merely necessary to unscrew the drain plate 13 from the urinal, bolt down the spider 12 to the top of the drain plate, and then screw the drain plate back. over the drain. After this has been done, the block 17 of deodorizing orvothery material is fit-- ted down over the spider, as shown in Fig. 3, the cap 10 is placed over the spider and block, and the screw 22 is inserted, clamping the assembly togetherin the manner shown in Fig. 2.

After the block 17 has been completely volatilized, it may be replaced with a new block by merely backing off the screw 22 and lifting the cap 10. It is not necessary even to touch the device when refilling thesame, since the point of a screw driver or other tool may be inserted through one of the slots 28 in the upper portion of the cap to lift the same after the screw 22 has been backed off far enough to be disengaged from the post 14. n

By making the block 17 in the form of an annulus, it will sleeve over the center post 14 of the spider and will give a relatively large volatilizing surface which will remain substantially constant, since the inner surface will increase in area while the4 outer surface is decreasing in area. The block 17 is referred to herein as being made of a deodorizing material, but it may of course be made instead of a disinfecting material or of a combination of differently functioning materials, and the word deodorizing, appearing in certain of the following claims is intended to include within its meaning other differently functioning materials.

I claim:

1. In a device of the character described, an openworlr spider having an upright stem at its center and a plurality of fingers which radiate from a point just above the bott-om of the stem into widely separated relation to each other, which spider is adapted to receive a centrally apertured block of deodorizing material with the bottom of the block resting on the fingers', means for fastening the bottom of the stem to the drain plate of a urinal with the fingers in spaced relation to the drain plate, a removable strainer cap cupped over the spider with the rim of the cap in substantial abutment with the drain plate, which cap is provided with a large number of narrow vertically extending slots below the level of the fingers and is provided with a smaller number of much larger downwardly opening slots above the level of the fingers, and means at the center of the top of the cap for detachably securing the latter to the top of the stem of the spider.

2. In a device of the character described, an openwork spider having an upright stem at its center and a plurality of fingers which radiate from a point just above the bottom of the stem into widely separated relation to each other, which spider is adapted to receive a centrally apertured block of deodorizing material with thebottom of the block resting on the fingers, means for fastening the bottom of the stem to the drain plate of a urinal with the fingers in spaced relation to the drain plate, a removable strainer cap cupped over the spider with the rim of the cap in substantial abutment with the drain plate and with the sides of the cap in spaced relation to the extremities of the fingers, which cap is provided with a large number of narrow vertically eXtending slots below the level of the fingers and is provided with a smaller numberof much larger downwardly opening slots above the level of the fingers, and a screw passing down through an aperture in the center of the top of. the cap into a threaded bore in the center of the top of the stem for detachably securing the cap to the spider.

3. In a device of the character described, a cup-shaped housing provided with a fiat outturned rim for attachment over a drain opening, and an openwork support within the housing above the rim for holding deodorant material, said housing being provided in the top thereof above the deodorant support with a number of large downwardly directed openings and being provided in the side walls thereofA below said support with a relatively large number of narrow vertically elongated slots, which slots start substantially at the base of the rim and ext-end upwardly in the side walls as far as the support, whereby to form in effect a closely arranged "vertical strip enclosure for the chamber present in the housing below the deodorant support.
