This invention relates to wearing accessories and-is particularly directed to soft collar fasteners of the type adaptable to the collar ends relative to the necktie. The struc- 5 ture of this device is designed as an improvement over the existing type of clasp or fastener now in current use, its general purpose and use being the same, namely to draw the ends of the collar together and to hold them against displacement formaintaining a neat appearance of the collar relative to the necktie.
It is the objectof this invention to provide a collar fastener or holder fort-he described use which is extremely efficient in that it is readily placed in position and doesnot slip or become detached easily, which is readily applied by the wearer without undue effort and difficulty, and which is fabricated in an 0 improved manner, whereby the assembly operations are relatively simple and no extraneous fastening means are needed in the fabrication.

Figure 3 is a-sectional View taken on line 33, Figure 2, detailing the fabricated structure of the fastener. 5 The present structureis designed to include the least number of parts necessary to the fabrication of an eflicient collar clasp or holder and these parts are so arranged as to co-operate in assembly for sturdiness and efficient clasping action. Generally speaking the article is formed of two pieces which are inter red for providing a pair of spring urged jaws, between which jaws the collar tipsor ends are readily engaged, the jaws 5 tending to grip the material of the collar without damage thereto and in such fashion as to be incapable of accidental displacement.
Referring to the drawing, the front plate or bar of the clasp is indicated at 5 and the co-' s o eratin clas 3111 or 'aw formin element at P a: l g 1 g 6. The front plate or bar providing the ornamental effectfor'the clasp is curved toapproximately the curvature of the average 001- lar at the throat portion thereof. The-clasping or jaw forming element '6 is fastened to the front bar atan intermediate point there of. For this purpose the bar is longitudinally slotted except for end connecting portions 7 and an intermediate connecting portion 8. The clasping or jaw forming elementis of a thickness less than the width of the slots and is mounted through the slots as shown inFig-ure 3.
A loop 9 is formed at the intermediate portion of the element 6 and engages upon and about the intermediate conecting portion 8 of the front bar. When this element 6 is in position, the major portion thereof is disposed along the backof the bar 5. At each end of the jaw forming element substantial barbs are formed providing points 10 for these ends and curved cam surfaces 11 terminating in shoulders 12 or gripping points adapted to engage the material of the collar and press and wedge the same into the slots.
The initial shape of the jaw forming ele.- ment 6 at the intermediate loop portion prior to assembly is such that the open back of the loop is of a width permitting insertion of this element through the slots and over the intermediateportion. After the element has been inserted, the sides of the loop are drawn together or crimped in back of the connecting portion 8 as at 12. This narrows the opening at the back of the loop and prevents displacement of' this element'from the rigidly fixed position about the intermediate portion of the bar 5. At this time, the collar contact tips or shoulders at the ends of the element 6 are disposed within the slots, whereas the curved surfaces 11 extend clear of the slots. As will be apparent from Figure 3, it is thereby extremely convenient for the clasp to be inserted upon the collar ends since the edge of the collar is forced between the shoulder or engaging point 12 and the back of the bar by forcing the collar end into the convergence of the curved surface 11 and the rear surface of the front bar. damage, a tight grip on the material and the spring action of the element 6- acts to Wedge the material of the collar in the slots.
Having described my invention, I claim: 5 1. A collar fastener, comprising, a front bar including longitudinal slots and an intermediate connecting portion, and ajaw forming elementihaving a longitudinal loop portion secured by crimping about the intermelo diate portion and having jaw ends disposed adjacent the slots of the front barwith engaging tips disposed within the slots. 7 j e 2. In a collar clasp, a front barhaving longitudinal slots therein and including an 15 intermediate connecting portion, a jaw forming element disposed through the slots and having an intermediate loop pressed about the intermediate portion fof vthe forward bar, said jaw forming element having clamping ends disposed at the'rear of the bar and'ineluding points disposed Within the slots for forcing the material of the collar into the slots andwedging the same in position.
3. In a collar clasp, a front bar having longitudinal slots therein and including" an intermediate connecting portion, a jaw forming elementdisposed through the slots and having, an intermediate loop crimped about the intermediate portion of the front bar, said '9; jaw forming, element having clamping ends disposed at'the rear of the bar.
4. In a collar clasp, a front bar having longitudinal slots toward each end thereof, a jaw forming element disposed through the slots and having an intermediate loop clinched about the intermediate portion of the forward bar, said jaw forming element having clamping ends disposed at the rear of the bar and including points disposed within the slots for forcing the material of the collar into the slots and wedging the same in positiomand the ends of the jaw forming I element being curved to said wedging points" for the purpose of entry. 7 j 5. A collar fastener, comprising, a' front bar including slots at its ends, a jaw forming element having a longitudinal loop portion secured to said forward bar and having its ends disposed adjacent the back of the front bar with engaging edges disposed for press-v ing the collar material into the slots.
