Description
i Patented June 6, 1933 BENJAMIN FISCHER, F NEW` YORK, Y.
` l `cnimrsstamaneciAnianiri Appiiaiio'n; inea March 2,
This invention to improvements in `sleeping garments,` and `more particularly to childrensfsleeping garments? 'l 1 Theprimaryobject of the" invention `re-` sides in a sleeping garment forVl children or infants which consists of an upper `garment section` and a removable lower garment section which when assembled imparts the appearance or" a one piece garment. This enables the readyremoval of the lower gar#` ment section when'wet or soiled by the child p during sleep and the suhstitutionof a fresh or clean` lowergarment` section therefor. 1
n f Another, featureofthc invention is to provide a childs sleeping garment which is buttonable at the front rather than at the back, asis the present style to prevent the imprint of the buttons upon the wearers `body while lying on his or her back, and wliichis further provided with a drop flap on the lower garment section at the front thereof to facilitate the changing of a childs diapers without requiring the placing of the child on its stomach asis the present custom.
A further object of the invention is the provision of achilds sleeping garment which is comfortable, )easy to apply and remove, y attractive in appearance, and inexpensive of manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the certain novel con-` struction, combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my improved sleeping garment.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the same.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary front elevational view of the lower section per se with the front drop iiap partially turned down.
Figure 4 is a front elevational view of the upper garment section.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, the numeral 10 designates my im* proved childs sleeping garment in its en- 50. tirety which includes an upper garment sec- 1932. Serial No. 596,344.`
The lower garment section 12 is made of the `saine material as the upper garment section 11 and includes legs 16 which are provided with feet 17. The frontof the lower 05 garment section 12 is provided with a drop fiap18 whichis provided ,with button holes 19 adjacent the top edge thereof. These button holescorrespond in `numbers to the number of buttons 15 on the front lower edge 70 ofthe upper garment section 11. Extending upwardly from the rear or seat portion of the lower garment section 12 is a back p0rtion 20 having opposed side flaps 21 which are brought around to overlie opposite sides of the drop iiaps 18 and which side flaps are provided withbutton hole openings 22 by which thef `said iaps may bebuttoned to the end buttons of therow 15. `Thetop edge of the backtportion 20 iscut away as at 23 about the 80 collar or neck 14 of the upper garment sec-` tion 11, and whichcut away portion provides shoulder straps or tabs 241, having button hole openings 25 therein. These tabs or straps are brought forwardly over the shoulders of the upper garment section 11 and are secured by buttons 26 carried by the upper garment section 11 at the shoulders thereof.
Assume that the garment is in the buttoned up` position` shown in Figure 1 of the draw- 90 ing, and it is desired to apply the same to a wearer. The buttons 12 are unbuttoned together with the buttons 15 whereuponthe legs and arms of the wearer may be inserted into lthe legs 16` of the lower garment section 95 ,and sleeves 13 of the upper garment section and the parts again closed by rebuttoning the buttons 12 and 15. In the event that thelower garment section 12 should become wetor4 soiled by the child during sleep, the 100 same may readily be removed without dis-I turbing the upper garment portion which due to its short `waist is not likely to become soiled. To remove the lower garment section 12 it is only necessary to unbutton the buttons 26 and 15 whereupon a child lying on its back may be pulled free of the upper garment section 11. A fresh or clean lower garment section may be substituted therefor by merely inserting the legs of the child into the leg portions 16 of the lower garment section and sliding the rear portion 2O beneath the child and up and around the shoulders of the upper garment section 11. The straps 24 are buttoned to the buttons 26. The drop flap 1S is then brought up and buttoned to the buttons 15 as are the side iaps 21.
By reference to Figure 2 of the dra-wing it will be seen that the back section 20 is loose or full especially at the seat to provide ample comfort for the child that requires diapers. lil/*hen it is necessary to'change the diaper, the child may be laid on its back and the side iiaps 21 unbuttoned together with the drop Hap 18 and the leg portion 16 of the lower garment free of the legs of the wearer. After changing of the diaper the parts are rebuttoned and the changing accomplished without placing the child in an uncomfortable position upon its stomach. It will also be noted that no buttons-appear on the back of the garment which inthe present style of sleeping garment is objectionable due to the fact that the imprint of the button is often left upon the body of the child accustomed to Ysleeping on its back. Also, there are no buttons at the sides ofthe garment which might leave an imprint upon the body in the event that the child slept on its side.
While I have shown and described Awhat I deem it be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, I wish it tobe understood that such changes as come within the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to if clesired.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A sleeping garment comprising an upper garment section buttonable down the front, a lower garment section buttonable to the lower front edge of said upper garment section, and a back section extending from the rear of said lower garment section and overlying the back of said upper garment section, and buttonable to the upper garment section at the shoulders thereof. v
2. A sleeping garment comprising an upper garment section buttonable down the front, a lower garment section buttonable at` the lower front edge of said upper garment section, and a back section extending from the rear of said lower garment section, and buttonable to the uppergarment'section at the shoulders thereof, and side aps extending from opposite sides of said back section and buttonable to the front of said upper garment section and overlying the front of said lower garment section at the sides thereof.
, 3. A sleeping garment comprising an upper garment section buttonable down the front thereof, a lower garment section having its front buttonable to the lower edge of the front of said upper garment section, a back portion extending from said lower garment section and loosely overlying the back of said upper garment section, and shoulder straps on said back portion extending forward over the shoulders of said upper garment section and buttonable thereto.
4. A garment comprising an upper garment section, a lower garment section detachably secured to the lower front edge of said upper garment section, a backsection extending from the rear of said lower garment section and terminating in shoulder straps for detachable engagement with the shoulders of said upper garment section, and side ila-ps extending from opposite sides of said back section and detachably engageable with the front of said lower garment section and overlying the same at the end thereof.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
BENJAMIN FISCHER.
