The object of the present invention is to provide a spray-producer whereby a uniform spray can be obtained from an intermittent supply of pressure gas, for instance from one of the cylinders of an internalcombustion engine to which the apparatus is attached through the medium of an air pump valve.
This object is achieved according to the invention by leading the gas to the spraying nozzle through an equalizing chamber which may be contained in the part of the device serving as handle.
For the proper functioning of the apparatus, moreover, the spraying liquid is fed into the casing by gravity through an exchangeable calibrating core, and the air supply to the spray is regulated by means of a screw.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which represents a sectional view of the apparatus.
The spray-producer comprises a casing 03 provided with a straight bore divided into two co-axial portions 6 and n of different diameters. The wider portion of the bore terminates at one end of the casing in a socket adapted to receive an exchangeable spraying nozzle This portion of the bore also receives the spraying liquid which is fed into it by gravity from a receptacle [7&- The latter has a nipple t which is screwed into a socket g on the casing. Between the socket and the bore 6 there is a passage V which is adapted to receive an exchangeable calibrating core 72 provided with a stepped duct having a wide portion Z directed towards the receptacle and a narrow portion m turned towards the bore 6.
The narrow bore .portion or opens into a recess 0 and receives through the latter the compressed air or other gas whereby the spray is operated. A screw 1?, which is coaxial with the bore and has a conical end, traverses the recess 0 and enters the bore portion 1?, for regulating the air supply.
The apparatus is principally designed for use in connection withan internal combustion engine one of the cylinders of which is converted into an air pump, the sparking plug being for this purpose replaced by a suitable air pump valve. To equalize the pulsating air supply obtained in this manner and obtain a uniform spray, the casing at is provided with a hollow extension 6 forming an equalizing chamber a; through which the air is fed to the spray, the extension being provided with a nipple c which is connected by means of a flexible pipe to the valve on the engine cylinder. The extension may, as shown in the drawing, be adapted to serve as a handle for manipulating the apparatus. To retain impurities and aid in the equalization of the pressure, the chamber a may be charged with a filtering medium q. Further equalization of the pressure is obtained by a suitable adjustment of the screw 29, and the pulsating air supply can in this manner be made to produce a perfectly uniform spray. 7
Naturally the apparatus can be attached to any other source of supply, for instance a container of compressed gas, or a handpump, or a pump connected to a portable electric motor. 1
I claim:
1. A spray-producer comprising a casing having a recess and a straight bore traversing said recess, a spraying nozzle connected to the casing at one end of the bore, an adjusting screw fitted in the opposite end of the bore and traversing the recess, a hollow handle integral with the casing and communicating with said recess, means for connecting the handle to a supply of compressed gas, the casing having a straight feeding passage entering the bore at right angles thereto between the recess and the spraying nozzle, and a receptacle connected to the casing over said feeding passage for feeding liquid by gravity into the bore.
2. The structure claimed in claim 1 in combination with a calibrating core arranged detachably in the feeding passage between the receptacle and the bore. I
