Description

WRINGER Filed May 10, 1930 Patented May 39, 1 933 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFI CEf ERNEST J. SGHUDA, F ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA; AssIGNOETO LOVELL M NUF CTUR- ING COMPANY, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF P NNSYLVANIA;
WEI GER Application filed May 10,
Sheet metal Wringers are usually provided with a frame which involves a sheet metal base and are also provided with drip boards. The present'invention is designed to improve the structure of base and drip board to make a stable and conveniently formed connection between the drip board and the base. Features and details of the invention will appear from the specification and claims. A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing as follows Fig. 1 shows a front elevation of the wringer.
Fig. 2 an enlarged section on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top view of one end of the drip board. Fig. 4 a section on the line 44 in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 a section on the line 55 in Fig. 3. Fig. 6 a section view on line 6-6 in Fig. 3. 'Fig. 7 is a top view of one end of the base.
The top bar 3.
in the frame in the usual manner. is preferably of channel shape. It has a top plate 1a and sideplates 17). A drip board 5 has a central horizontal portion 5a with inclined parts 55 and is preferably provided with flanges 50 at the ends.
A bolt hole 6 extends through the top plate of the base. This is of key-hole shape having an enlarged portion 7 and an ex tending slot 8. One of these bolt holes is arranged at each end of the base.
The drip board has a key-hole shaped opening 9 with an enlarged portion 10 and an extending slot 11, these parts being adapted to register -with the hole 6 in the top plate of the base. Bolts 12 extend through the openings. These bolts are provided with heads 13, the heads being of a size to pass through the large parts 7 and 10 of the openings 6 and 9, and being of a size to be moved into the slots 8 and 11. The bolts are provided with wing nuts 14 by means of which the bolts may be set up to clamp the drip board in place.
59 Cross ribs 15 are struck downwardly in frame has a base 1, side stiles 2, and Wringer rolls 4 are mounted The base 1930. Serial No. 451,444.
opening 9 and extend down each side of the 5 7 slot 11 joining the cross ribs 15. Lips 17 and'18 extend along the slots 11 and around. the enlargement 10. These lips extend upwardly and engage the under-side of the bolt, heads 13.
The cross ribs form a seat for the drip board and stiffen the drip board at the seat and give the drip board even though made of comparatively light gauge metal stability on the base. The cross ribs are assisted in this respect by stiffening the metal around the hole and raise the contacting, or seating portion adjacent to the hole so that the metal of the drip board as it is clamped by the bolt may be put under initial stress. In this way it is held more securely on the base.
l/Vhat I claim as new is 1. In a wringer, the combination of a frame comprising a base of sheet metal having top and side plates, the top plate having a bolt hole therein; a drip board resting on the base and having a bolt hole registering with the bolt hole in the base; cross ribs on the board forming a support between the top plate and board; and bolts extending through the holes securing the drip board.
2. In a wringer, the combination of a I frame comprising a base of sheet metal having top and side plates, the top plate having a bolt hole therein; a drip board resting on the base and having a bolt hole registering with the bolt hole in the base, said drip board having upwardly extending lips around the holes therein; cross ribs on the board form 7 ing a support between the top plateand 90 board; and bolts extending through the holes securing the drip board.
3. In a wringer, the combination of a frame comprising a base of sheet metal having top V and side plates, the top plate having a bolt 95 hole therein; a drip board resting on the base and having a bolt hole registering with the bolt hole in the base, said drip board having downwardly extending ribs and upwardly extending lips around the holes therein;
my hand.
cross ribs on the board forming a support between the top plate and board; and bolts extending through the holes securing the drip board. 1
4. In a Wringer, the combination of a frame comprising a base of sheet metal having top and side plates, the top plate having key-hole slots therein; a dripboard resting on the base having a horizontal portion and inclined sides, said drip board having keyhole slots registering with the key-hole slots in the top plate; and bolts having heads 7 adapted to pass through the larger portions of the key-hole slots and adapted to enter, the smaller portions of the key-hole slots for clamping the drip board on the base.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set ERNEST J. SCHUDA.
