This invention relates to a functionally and structurally improved razor.
It is an object of the invention to :furnish a .device of this character, the parts of which may be readily shiftedto operative and inoperative positions for the purpose of cleansing and blade removal or application.
A further object of the invention is that of constructing a razor in which the partel may be adjusted so that any desired type of shave will result.
A still further object is that of furnishing an article of this character the parts of which will be few in number and individually simple and rugged in construction, these parts being capable of manufacture by automatic machinery and ready assemblage to furnish an apparatus operating over long periods of time with freedom from dimculties.

This shifting of the stem with'respect to 95 the tube and guard is preferably achieved by having the. stem end extended and formed with threads as at 24; Similarly, the bore of the knob 12 is threaded and'thus, by turning the knob with respect tothe-tube, projection 100 and retraction of the stem follows. After pro'ection to the position shown in Fig. 2, it is o vious that a blade may be applied to the parts or removed therefrom and that upon stem-retraction occurring, the blade will be firmly clamped .against movement to have its "cutting edge overlie the comb' to properly 15; ably forms an integral part of the guard and in this construction, it will be noted that the pivot is dis osed in such manner that a longitudinal roc zing of the clamping plate will follow as the stem is shifted with respect to the tube. During such shifting, the rail and groove will cooperate to guide the parts as has been clearly shown in Figs. 5 and 6. In

resulting in a straight shifting of the parts.
In order to cause this shifting, the tube is' slidably encircled by a sleeve 28 and a pin 29 is mounted by the sleeve and extends through slots 30 formed in the tube to couple the sleeve with the stem. Moreover, the knob is formed with a screw threaded portion 31 for cooperation with a similarly threaded enlar ement 32 forming a part of the sleeve 28. ccordingly, by coupling these threads, the stem and clamping plate may be drawn downwardly with the result that the latter may be caused to engage more or less intimately a blade disposed between its upper surface and the upper surface of the guard. However, upon the knob being turned to a sufficient extent, the screw threads 31 will disengage from the threads 32 and the sleeve may now be shifted to elevate the stem to the position shown in Fig. 5. Under s uch conditions, the blade may readily be removed or applied and the parts may be cleaned.'
The same form of construction is utilized in connection with the device shown in Fig. 7. However, in this form, the flange or rail 33 is preferably rounded and the pivotis disposed to again permit of rocking movements on the part of the clamping plate which movements will be transversely of its body. Consequently, as the clamping plate is lifted out of contact with the guard'by shifting the sleeve upwardly, it will rock in the manner showi in Fig. 2 and then'disengage from the ar guN ow referring to Figures 9 to 13, it will be noted that the numeral 34 indicatesl a guard mounted by a tube 33. Extending from the upper face of the guard is an abutment or lug 35 which servesto maintain the vblade in position and to cooperate with the clamping late in Aa manner hereinafter described.

In order that the stem may be shifted in `the manner afore brought out, it will be noted that the tube is encircled by a sleeve 39. The inner face of this sleeve may be grooved or else, as has been shown, a second sleeve member 40 may be fixed within the sleeve to move with the stem and prior to such positioning may be formed with a slot 41. This slot extends spirally and a springpressed pin 42 is carried by the stem and extends through a slot`43 formed in the y tube and has its end riding within the groove or slot of the sleeve. Secured to the tube 33 is a knob 44 which may be knurled, it being thus apparent that an operator by grippingv the sleeve with one hand and gripping the knob with the other may effect a ready relative rotation of those parts.
lVhen such rotation is resorted to it is apparent that the slot 41 will cooperate with the pin 42 to shift the latter along the slot 43. This shifting will result in an axial movement on the part of the stem with respect to the tube to thus cause relative movement of the clamping plate with respect to the guard.
It will moreover be noted that the upper end of the slot 43 is offset so that the p1n in riding through this tangential portion will cause the stem-in addition to moving longitudinally-to rotate axially. Consequently the clamping plate, in addition to lifting, will turn through an arc'of approximately 90 in addition to swinging so that the parts will move ffrom the position shown in Figure 9 to that shown in Figure 10, and vice versa.
As the parts are returned to their normal position the pin rides through or is shifted y the lower end of the slot 41. This lower end is so proportioned that but little movement of the stem occurs as the pin moves through this slot or grooved zone. Consequently proper adjustment of the clamping plate may be had.
As shown in Fig. 13 a blade 45 is employed in connection with this razor and which blade has a central'opening of an area such that the abutment may accommodated. The
corners of the blade may be cut out as at 47 that no damage is likely to occur the guard that, among others, the several objects of the invention as specifically afore noted, are achieved. Obviously, numerous changes in construction and rearrangements of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the claims.
Having described my linvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: j
